I own the AEON Open X. I also own 10 other headphones by companies other than Dan Clark Audio and I try to do my best to rotate them from time to time. I have had my AEON's now for about 9 months and have had to deal with this particular pad issue recently. I contacted DCA via email and was referred to this video and I was able to renew my pads and get rid of the bulge, but it didn't take long for that bulge to return so I contacted them again and they sent me a brand new set of pads. OK, I very much appreciate that. Customer service here was outstanding and I wish ALL companies conducted business the same way. But what's to make us believe a fresh set of pads will change anything? The pads on my headphones are so buttery soft and comfortable. I don't notice any loss of seal. They clean up easily and they are as comfortable a pad as any I have ever experienced. It's a shame though because this is one terrific looking headphone and it really sounds good, too. I may have to try a Dekoni offering to see if they have a bit more rigid foam that won't collapse.
We have added an adhesive to reduce roll of the foam and also increased foam density within the fabric, both of which should help with longer term stability.
Maybe after I fully go through the original pads AND the replacement set you folks sent me. Love the headphones but refuse to waste a set of pads just for aesthetics. Sure it looks kind of sloppy but until it doesn't seal I'm going to deal! HA I made a rhyme! LOL
Appreciate these videos dan! Just bought my Aeon flow closed (SN: ACXC001, kind of proud I found that haha). Had them sent to my fellow audiophile Friends house so he can demo, and he loves them. Sure I will too. Thank you for the astounding work that you do!
Hi Dan, could you go a bit more into detail about the differences of the open and closed Aeons? Just listened to the sealed once. Really great product. Thanks.
Just bought some aeon noirs, but can’t listen to them yet. But one thing is a big no no for me at a price point of 900$: those EarPads being glued on… there are a million ways to put on pads and you chose the worst one in terms of replaceabilty and maintenance…
Thanks for your purchase, I hope you enjoy them. First, the pads are not glued on. We use an adhesive that allows the pads to be pealed off for replacement. Other methods are heavier and often less reliable. Plastic pins break, and may not hold the pad tight to the baffle for a seal. Magnets are heavy and bulky. Stretch-to-fit increases the size and weight of the headphone. When we factored all these variables it seemed an adhesive gave a more reliable seal, lower weight, no problems with parts breaking, and easy replacement. Of course you may have your own preferences, but those were the reasons we went this route...
The only thing that dissapointed me is the synthetic leather. It gets pretty warm and it does not breath. Sad for this pricepoint (in my country the final price is almost 1000$)
I must agree, the synthetic leather doesn’t breath, I wish there were alternative real leather pads available - none of the reviews I read ever mentioned how warm they can get, even if I could have tried these beforehand its maybe only after about half an hour before this becomes apparent, so it wouldn’t have been obvious from a quick try-out. The comfort aspect immediately on putting them on is quite impressive, they’re lightweight and unobtrusive but the heat does build up after a while.
Actually i really love this Headphone , but got disappointment of the service from mr spearker, This video not working on my right earpad at all My right earpad like flaccid cannot got firm like my left earpad, thats why my ear keep touching the inner of the phone or touch their tuning pad( this make me feel uncomfortable) Then i contact my My local retailer from jaben store Indonesia Then they said from mr speaker responding from May 2018 - now their pads keep out of stock Even i really enjoy or Trust this headphone so much but i Got disappoints on this kind of service But true really Great Headphone
I love when we get details and DIY information directly from the manufacturer. I wish more companies did this.
Amazing. Bought AEON closed, really amazed especially with binaural records. Thank you again.
This man is so wholesome!
Thanks, Dan. Aeon Open is fantastic!

I wasn't as lucky, I was told to buy replacement pads.

Hi Dan, wondering if your future products could use magnetic ear pads (just like AirPods max) so much easier to replace!
Where can I order these from? I like in the UK and so would appreciate somewhere close to avoid being stung by Import Tax. Any Links? Thanks

This video just saved me from purchasing new pads
Is it primer, or primer?

Synthetic leather is more consistent sonically then leather pads.

Thank you. I thought i had to live with the bulge.
For the money you shouldn’t have to do this. Tore the ear pad doing this. Terrible pads.
