"Livin' on a Prayer" is Bon Jovi's second chart-topping single from their 12× platinum Slippery When Wet album. Written by Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, and Desmond Child, the single, released in late 1986, was well received at both rock and pop radio and its music video was given heavy rotation at MTV, giving the band their first No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and their second consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit.
The song has become the band's signature song, topping fan-voted lists and re-charting around the world decades after its release. The original 45-RPM single release sold 800,000 copies in the United States, and in 2013 was certified Triple Platinum for over 3 million digital downloads.

I’m a mature, but novice, bass player. I’ve been listening to this song since it’s release in the eighties. I know the numpties out there won’t agree or want to hear it but this is the finest bass line cover of this song I’ve ever heard, and this rendition alone (but there are many others) warrants nomination for Constantine’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. My experience has often been “Those that can do, and those that can’t criticise” If you don’t agree then simply put your bass where your negative comment is and we’ll let you know what we think of yours!

I've always found the Chorus section on this song confusing. There's all those walking "Set-up notes" notes to get the bass up to where the guitar and key chord will be next. If its not done perfectly, it just sounds like crap. It's a very Bassfingery.

Everybody always concentrates on teaching the intro since it also covers the verse, but neglect the chorus. I think the bassline at "oh we're halfway there" is way more melodic. It doesnt have that driving beat of the intro, but it's more upbeat and compliments the intro nicely.
