Paul with orange hair and in blue and black clothes looks like David Bowie. :) "Joe Strummer what a frontman"..."Topper a great drummer."....THE BESTS!!!
Best Clash song they ever did - used to hear it blaring out my older brother's bedroom back in 1978 when I was just 9 yrs old, it helped spark my interest in Punk from there on, and I inherited my brothers collection of Punk vinyl cos he lost interest by 1981 lol
This was the pilot episode of a program called Something Else early in 1978. Clash played 2 songs on it: Clash City Rockers, their single of the time and Tommy Gun - released about a year later! It's still great to watch after all this time!!!!
They were both some real cool looking fellas with no previous music experience; the difference is, Paul learned the bass thing and wrote Guns of Brixton, while Sid got an overdose.
While I agree the Clash is one of the greatest bands of all time and one of my personal favorites, there IS more to music than just raw guitar and hard pounding drums. Bands like the Beatles made a mint on sappy love longs that are still loved today. A far cry from the sound of the Clash. The big band sound from long ago is still very uplifting to listen to, not to mention swing music that gets ya moving. But your right, todays stuff if mostly crap LOL
Damn, that was a great performance! It's so rare to see Mick and Paul come in for ALL their vocal parts. Chances are they were told to keep it as true to the studio recording as possible for this TV show.
2662 views & only 1 comment? If only the sound were louder but it'll do. The picture's fantastic & the song... a clarion call to the fans by the greatest live band of all time. Worked for me then, works for me now. RADIO CLASH CITY ROCKERS!
He played righty because his mentor, Tymon Dogg, played right handed. And as Joe would say, "That is D-O-double G way before Snoop Doggy Dogg." But learning with the opposite hand gave Joe his style. He had to strum the guitar because it is really hard to be precise with your non-dominant hand. He played so hard that it was almost like he was playing a percussion instrument. And he stomped holes in the stages of numerous concert venues.
well throw in the damned and youre absolutely right- for me its the Jam by a whisker but id take the other two without hesitation as they are all literally tied as the best bands of the era
@salvadory true enough, but I said that because it was a slogan back in the day put out by their record label which everyone used to refer to the Clash. I still have my worn out t-shirt that says it. : )
Wow, is this old school. Mick has hippie hair, Joe has a pompadour and Paul looks like he's sporting a mullet! Great stuff though. Saw them here (N'awlins) at the Warehouse With local legend Lee Dorsey (Workin' in a Coal Mine) opening for them. Smokin' good show. The Clash is gone & the closest thing we had (The Libertines) self-destructed. Batter Up!!!
A lot of people say it's all dead. As soon as punk had a uniform.. studs, mohawk etc.. the look could be sold. You could go down to GAP and become a punk. As soon as punk had a sound the music could be sold. You can stroll down to the HMV "Punk" section. And be told what's punk and what's not by a multinational corporation. They can never control our thinking. Punk thinking went on to form techno, rap, and it will occur again. Enough categorization. Find new music. It's out there. It's changed
Never seen this clip before! I've seen the Tommy Gun performance/Interview with Paul & Joe, in what looks like the same TV studio. This clip is F*#king great!! Thanks for sharing .... Does anyone know the date of this performance and what the TV show was called? Thanks. Dan
Yeah program was early 1978 - I saw it at the time. I think the program was called SOMETHING ELSE. This was the pilot episode. The rest of the series came nearly a year later.
Recorded on March 11th 1978. This version is pretty poor, I have a full copy, from a Umatic Master tape, the full show, it's perfect and I will upload it to my TH-cam channel soon.
paul simonon is the reason i play bass... this band is just so awsome i can't describe it...
Real talent isn't having a great voice or guitar playing, its taking what you have and making it into something special. RIP Joe Strummer.
Paul with orange hair and in blue and black clothes looks like David Bowie. :)
"Joe Strummer what a frontman"..."Topper a great drummer."....THE BESTS!!!
Joe Strummer wrote and sang the lyrics with deep passion because he believed in them ❤
Best Clash song they ever did - used to hear it blaring out my older brother's bedroom back in 1978 when I was just 9 yrs old, it helped spark my interest in Punk from there on, and I inherited my brothers collection of Punk vinyl cos he lost interest by 1981 lol

Beatles 2.0
And I mean in that in most flattering kind of way.
montyseven, I think that the white LP jr. was either a back up for his red one (which the neck snapped in half) or he borrowed it from someone.
I was born in 1994 and I didn't care about music until after Joe died. I'll never get to see them live goddammit
Wow, is this old school. Mick has hippie hair, Joe has a pompadour and Paul looks like he's sporting a mullet! Great stuff though. A lot of people say it's all dead. As soon as punk had a uniform.. studs, mohawk etc.. the look could be sold. You could go down to GAP and become a punk.

Definitely it’s from “something else”.
Joy division and The Jam did the same show.
