I’m too young to have lived it, but that just seems like the most magical time music has ever seen. Hearing it from someone who lived it, especially John Atkinson and the British rock movement, is so wonderfully amazing. There’s a reason people seek out those U.K. 1st pressings. Great series Steve! What an interesting and singular individual.....his public personality and profession led me to draw conclusions about him that were inaccurate, this series has given me a new perspective on who he really is. Great work!

Great video Steve. 10 years too young too have experienced all of those bands at their prime, but John gave us a sense of what we missed. The closest I can get is the Birmingham Odeon (UK) in the late 70’s and 80’s. Not quite the same, but lots of great memories. Thanks for all of your hard work - keep them coming.
Steve, Get questions from the audience for John and do a Q&A with him. I say this because I read every one of his measurements on every review I read. Its kind of cool and there is so much history there. If you , the audience here, are not reading his measurements just start reading them; they will start to make sense even if you don't get it all, you start to form a sense of the complete review. If you already do, then you get what I am asking Steve.
Steve! You are selling music scene in the United States in the late 1960s short. We are all about the same age. I grew up in Philadelphia. I think it was the same in NYC. We had great small local clubs like the Main Point and the Second Fret where great performers and performances could be seen and heard. At the original Electric Factory, I saw The Who perform their early music followed by some new album they just recorded, called Tommy, Also saw Janice Joplin, The Electric Flag, Blood, Sweat,& Tears and many more. The other, so to speak, big concerts at the Spectrum would include four or five bands for the paltry sum of 5, 6 or seven dollars. Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Stones, Kinks, John Mayall, Spirit, Jethro Tull, to name few. I'm sure England was great during JA's time, but we had it pretty good here too!
I wasn't fortunate to have experienced these bands in their prime.It's great to hear John's enthusiasm for such wonderful events.I bet Hendrix would have been amazing. I'd would have enjoyed Nick Drake and Sandy Denny too.Marvin Gaye. The list goes on....🥁
Interesting to note that in John's narration there's nothing said about Classical music.. Coming from the UK I would have thought the great LSO would get a mention in his musical travels. Jazz and rock are great but not the "be all, end all" of music, especially when one lives in a country with such a variety of great orchestras. I wonder if you (Steve) focused the conversation in these music genres on purpose or John's interests don't include other types of music? Anyway, interesting talk. Brought back memories from the 60's...

I was born 10 years too late! (1960). Although I'm certainly old enough to remember all the greats from the '60's and early '70's. (You forgot Bob Welch from Fleetwood Mac). Genesis was great in their early years, but Phil did a great job on Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. After that....meh... Great interview, Steve. John is an interesting guy!
JA talking about the British music scene in the 60s... Wonderful musings about modern rock's earliest architecture.. And not one mention of the "B" band... The eyes of all those musicians were on the "B" band's next "thing" .. But not one mention.. Interesting!

I'am as old as you two guys and from England and was the best time for "popular" music both live and recordings today is such a narrow field
