Hiked around there and walked over St Kevin's cave. I remember walking across a cleft (2 or 3 feet across) on the mountain above and looking hundreds of feet down into the upper lake.

Glad you enjoyed the video Adrian.Time was one could get a boat across the lake and a man would help you to climb up and enter the bed. High insurance stopped all that.

When I went it was a rare day: my party of was the only intruders to that sacred place! On this day, December 3, 2020, I realize anew what a special place it is to me and how I long to return. As I am now 75 and not in good health and Covid controls our lives, I doubt I shall get to go back on this side of death. What happens after I know not. I only know that Glendalough is as close to a blessed place as I will ever get whist still breathing. 🙏🏼

@@dadeo1194 Ah! Well then, it’s more than time to go back...once we can travel again, that is. Thank you for your note. Are you familiar with a little book entitled 100 SACRED PLACES? I believe that is the book I have buried in my library (Which I’m decluttering) that includes GLENDALOUGH as one of the hundred. I will try to find it in a bit to make sure of that, if you’re interested. Also, In the book HOW THE IRISH SAVED CIVILIZATION a purpose was put forth for the round towers and why the entries were raised so high and yes, it was indeed to save the manuscripts from looters. This is how and why during the Dark Ages Ireland managed to keep their holy scripts in tact and send them to the continent. If you’ve not the the 2nd book it really is a must! One comes away thinking the Irish are the only reason we still read and write! I’m Irish so it’s fine. 😉 But the author does take it a bit far. On the other hand, there is much for other nations to atone for when it comes to home they treated the Emerald Isle! BTW: my great grandfather was a finish carpenter on the Titanic. He was supposed to be on her maiden voyage but a fried implored him to let him go instead as his family was already in Boston.
Have a safe and HEALTHY holiday and may we soon be out of this terrible pandemic. As I tell the kids: just wear the mask! ☮️

@@robinholbrook6576Hi Robin. Nice of you to reply to my text and thanks for the information. I would be delighted if you could send me piece on Glendalough. If you are ok with it. What. Part of the world are you in ? Again many thanks.

@@dadeo1194 Hello, again. I sorta live in the Dark Ages where I am: San Antonio, Texas. Here folks are into concealed carrying of guns and flagrant spreading of Covid: many “choose “ not to wear masks. Anyway, I’m here. Where are you? I think I was confusing in what I wrote! Sorry. I don’t have an article I can s here. Hmmmm ...now I’m wondering! Maybe after my nap I can figure something out. Well, after my nap and AFTER I find the books! I’m decluttering library so it may not be instantaneous. And then, of course, that brings me to the dilemma of where did I FILE those books? With history? Geography? Perhaps spiritually? Oh where is Melvil when you really need him?? I’m not a strict Dewey follower; just your basic kinda sorta which works here at home 99.9% of the time. My daughter worked at Half Price Books and a customer came in and asked : where’s the nonfiction? Sigh. At LEAST she reads! Seems trump is going to have a presidential library. We’re trying to guess which book he’s putting in there. Anyway, let me ponder on the GLENDALOUGH entry. I’ll see with what I come up! Lolololol yes! It’s time for that nap! 😴
