Imagine being forced to simply guess where he's gonna serve with such power......and you have to simply guess where he's gonna return your serve if you want a chance. I've experienced this, I only had a chance with my first serve. With my second serve I honestly immediately went left or right, due to his powerful return.
Partly because he's had a lot of injuries over his career but mostly because to be highly ranked you need consistency and this kind of style doesn't enable that. Look at it this way, most professional tennis players are capable of playing a match at a 9/10 or 10/10 standard, it's how you get results like Brown beating Nadal, Stakhovsy beating Federer and Querrey beating Djokovic. Where the difference lies is what their normal standard is like and how consistently they can produce those top class performances. A player like Federer is going to have very few games where he's dropping below about an 8/10 standard and even on a bad day he's still going to be at a 7/10. His average performance is still very good, even on days when he's not at his best he's still going to be up there with the best. A player like Brown however plays with such an unconventional style that for it to come off at all everything has to go perfectly. If he puts it all together he can throw in the occasional 9/10 match where he can challenge the best players but if he's even the tiniest bit off, if his timing is a fraction off, his footwork a little bit slow, if anything is at all short of perfect then he's going to be down at about a 4/10. Simply put, the better players can produce good, solid performances almost every time. Brown can produce amazing shots frequently but rarely strings together enough of them to have a really good match.
@@mackemforever TBH tho, his style of play is nothing new, sure it's flashy, but back in 90s, Pete Sampras played like this too.. Originally a baseliner, but then developed into a serve-volleyer later on, he always came to the net and looking for winners instead of rallies.. He had magnificent physique tho..
I know Federer is just amazing, but I just love watching Dustin Brown. Such a variety in the game, great athlete. He makes tennis interesting again.
Dustin Brown plays tennis like it’s a video game! Unreal!!!
