This beautiful piece was often played by my father who was a violin player, He played this at all three of our( daughters) weddings. I surprised my dad and played it for mom and dads 50th wedding anniversary on my flute. Now that dad is gone, when I do play it or just hear others playing it, I cry alot. It is sooo beautiful!

When I was a boy in a small Asian country, at age 10 years, this piece of music was featured at the end of a radio drama series. I did not know the name of this piece. But I liked it so much I would listen until the very end every night. Now, at age 65, I finally know the name of the composition. Brings back lots of nostalgic moments.

Absolutely beautiful. I watched with my daughters (1.5 year old and 3.5 year old) and they were in awe. My older daughter asked, “why are her eyes closed?” And I explained it’s because she is playing with her heart and soul. A very touching moment with my girls and this music. What life is all about.

@@hanrolavh4546 the thing about playing classical music is that however much you feel it as a listener, you feel it approximately 1000-fold when playing. you can't help but be completely immersed in the music, and feel the harmony and phrasing in your entire being. harmony literally modulates human emotions, so when you have complete focus / immersion in it, it's intense. you're along for the ride.
when it comes to this piece in particular, the story behind it is pretty sorrowful itself.
"The story follows the life of the famed Alexandrian courtesan Thaïs and the monk Athanaël who has come to convince her to renounce her sinful life. She is driven into hysterics by the monk's words, seeing emptiness in her life and the approach of old age, until she collapses. The famous Meditation that follows her collapse musically depicts her conversion to a life of piety. The opera ends tragically, as Athanaël, having successfully converted her and returned to his monastery, is tormented by what he realizes is love for the former courtesan. He returns to Alexandria to find her dead and confesses his love and physical desire for her to the unhearing ears of her corpse."

How could 775 people have "disliked" this? Itzak Perlman's performance of this piece, with a symphony orchestra behind him, is not less perfect or less beautiful than this duet. I have listened to the Meditation from Thais at least a couple of hundred times, and this performance still has me crying; it is almost too beautiful, too emotional, for me to bear.

It's sometimes hard to understand how classical music evokes something in some people to not allow it in or just cross it off. Those poor folks are missing one of the greatest joys of life in classical music. I would suggest to any man to invite a lady (who has not discovered classical music) to a romantic indoor concert. It might just win her heart. Many of my wifes and my younger dates included beautiful classical music and other nights we'd dance to intense techno music for hours and hours... Diversity makes life fun....

My 19 year old Grandson played on his violin as a surprise number on my 70 th Birthday In May 2019. I never heard him play this seriously but I knew he was a member of his high school orchestra in Stuttgart, Germany. When the first few notes wafted in the air , silence fell. . The calmness and sweetness of the music caught everybody in awe. I didn’t want to spoil my make up , but I did. Tears were rolling down my cheeks. I brought me back when he was in middle school and told me me that wanted to join the school orchestra in Virginia Beach, .. His instrument of choice, VIOLIN. . I flew in from LAX. to personally deliver his first Yamaha violin.
Thank you, O’shaun for making my birthday a memorable one.

This performance is more than perfect. It's ANOTHER THING. The sound comes before technical perfection. The dialogue between the two musicians comes before notes. It's like a perfect poem, perfectly expressed by two impeccable actors. It's an uninterrupted dialogue, without any kind of hesitation or mistake. Everything is fluid, serene and perfect. This is the magic of art and the beauty of life.

      Great point !
Health issues have paradoxically made me come to this realization: we are not cognizant of what we - humans - have, most of the time.
Animal life documentaries show the brutality, the brutish-ness of the life of other species. How they have to scrap for food every day/meal.
The vast majority of us - humans - don't. Unfortunately, some (too many) are deprived of the basic, by those who are blind to the gifts of Mother Nature aka The Creator, to us humans.
The Christians (and certainly others) are on to something when they talk about the particularly great Love of the creator for us.
Let me get off my soapbox.
      Superb piece !!!

Why do people criticise the clothing??? It makes no. Absolute. Sense. First off, they’re perfectly fine, and look good on them. Secondly, YOU SHOULD BE HERE FOR THE MUSIC. THE CLOTHES ARE ADDED BONUSES.

    • @DieFlabbergast
      @DieFlabbergast 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's the point. There is no need for added bonuses of any sort. Massenet's music speaks for itself. Indeed, if I were Massenet, looking down from Heaven, I would probably be offended. "What? My music isn't good enough? It needs this pseudo-sexual visual promotion?"

He stopped and listened and said 'yes... isn't that beautiful, it's Massenet Thais. I went and bought the album. It always reminds me of my great friend Michael. God bless him.

Angels are playing! I remember training in ICU, in a major city hospital, when we received the news that one of our lecturers at Uni, had committed suicide. He was in charge of the Accident and Emergency room, at the hospital I was training in, and he took his own life there. His staff found him hours later, in a toilet no one used. His lectures were funny and entertaining, so one would remember them more easily. He never gave any indication he was depressed, not unusual. His name was Michael, I was studying at home at the time, when I got the phone call about Michaels demise. As it happened, this was playing, meditation de Thai. I always tear up when I hear it. Holy Father, I pray Michaels soul is at rest with you in Heaven, please forgive his sins, and protect him under your almighty wings. I pray his son and family are doing well, and are happy and blessed. Through Christ Our Lord, Amen
RIP Michael, it was a long time ago, but you are remembered with love!! 💕💖

Pity this was not posted when I helped my (now) wife prepare this to play at her son's wedding in 2015, and we listened to every other offering out there, as it is truly exceptional. Of course, it's a piece where if you're a famous player, you have to do something just a bit different and unique with it (I would imagine ...); this certainly achieves this as it is not only so beautifully played, but comes across as so spontaneous, heartfelt and sincere, without any 'ego' or showmanship - I am sure Thais has really got something sorted out in his life, after listening to it! And I have never heard anyone do a slide like up the the last note before!! :-)
