    You can get solenoid valves that are “normally open” or “normally closed” in the unpowered state, and also motorized ball valves that only use power while opening or closing. Regardless of the valve you buy make sure it is rated for LPG.

    This is diy down right. These tutorials on van builds specifically are in my opinion the very best bar none. I have researched for half a decade but no one has broke it down so eloquently. You make these complicated concepts easy to understand. You even shared the plans in color for free. Thank you

    One note about about checking for gas leaks is I think it is a good idea to do it often. Takes seconds if there is good access. Travel vibrations loosen a lot of stuff.

    Hi Moser and thanks for great video. I’ve lived full time in my van since beginning of 2019 and I do use propane. I’m not however handy with wood working projects. I’ve tried making a box for my 20 lb tank 2 times and both times it was a disaster. I have a brain injury that makes very simple math very difficult for me. I want to be safe as well as provide a perch for my kitty, Toby, and your build is perfect. I’m writing to request the build directions so that I can have a replica of your beautiful propane box built in my 2019 Ram Promaster. I can pay for this info if you’re willing to share. Thanks again for a really brilliant build and box. MaryAnn & Toby

    Great video as always! Which gas regulator did you end up buying?

  • @Weathernerd27
    @Weathernerd27 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to have good ventilation to run a propane system in a camper, its not just the gas fumes burning propane also emits alot of water vapor you're walls will be dripping. Installing a propane system is not a problem if you don't care as much about stealth and have a bit of money sitting around. In my case I spend alot of nights in city neighborhoods and used alot of my savings buying/converting the Van so this won't happen anytime soon.

    Great videos. Question...If i want to run just propane oven stove what size tank do you think I’ll need? I was thinking about doing undermount tank with a electric 4g water heater for my shower and sink and a wabasto gas heater. Is Undermount just for stove/oven overkill? Do you think a 4 gallon electric water heater is a good option? I have 3x100 amp hour lithium batteries

    Hi Sam, could you share a few thoughts on why you went half rubber and half copper? The copper seems a lot more intimidating, so I'd love to do all rubber. Are there drawbacks for that? Thanks! (Eric, Promaster 159 high roof, propex HS2000 and Dometic R31 range.)

    • @RustyCas999
      @RustyCas999 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need both as they have different functions. CO detectors protect you in the case of incomplete combustion in your appliances, but do not detect propane. And propane detectors do not detect CO.

    Are carbon monoxide or water vapor output from propane heaters a concern?

    • @sarabeth3016
      @sarabeth3016 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the type he has, it vents to the outside underneath the vehicle and out to the side, so there is no concern about output unless your vent is located near a door (usually passenger or sliding door, but sometimes rear doors). Your output should vent around the middle of the vehicle so that there is no risk of gasses coming back inside the van. Using portable propane heaters like "Mr. Buddy" heaters must be used with ventilation for the reasons you're concerned about. Open a window and/or turn on an exhaust fan when using portable units.

    I would not mount a propane bottle directly behind the cab.... the worst accident I ever saw was a camper with LP tanks directly behind the cab... The bottles ruptured and sent flames 300 feet into the air but only spread to the side about 6 feet... that was ~ 50 years ago I can still picture the charred remains in that camper... ... I feel that had those tanks been externally mounted on the rear of the camper that couple might have survived...

      I think the "dryness" of it all is beneficial. There's less room for error when explaining things that are new to someone, or even dangerous, and it makes for a great reference to come back to.
