I wish I had found your videos earlier. They are really helpful. I was a bit concerned that there may not be not enough contributions in my work, but now I can see them clearly.

Great Vlog...As I am close to submission, this was very helpful. I am thinking a lot about demonstrating the SOCK in my thesis. Great acronym. "Significance" is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Your advice on proof of 'significance' is wonderful.

Although I’m a first year PHD student, this made me appreciate the questions I’ve refined. Significant word document opened and in progress. Thank you! 🌸

Thank you so much for your generous sharing of knowledge. I'm in the so-called final stage to attain my Ph.D., awaiting my oral defense. I am thankful I've found your channel, though late but never too late, one has to be responsible to maintain the golden level of being a Ph.D., and seek for improvement forever.

Really useful vlog ( as always) I’m thinking about doing a phd and having come from a background in industry, the point about significance is really important to me. I want to be able to see the real life value of my research in the applied world. What value are people deriving from it. Thanks for the insights you share so clearly and with such positive energy.

I love this SOCK vlog! Listening to this has helped me consider these aspects as I form my proposal. I AM uneasy about the "significant" part... although I think, albeit weakly, that through the justification and argument of presenting an idea this comes through. Unfortunately, as the research unfolds this may or may not prove to be true and the readers will have to subjectively rate the degree of significance based on the completed project. Thanks for another thought provoking vlog ^_^

very useful information thank you very much!
like many others, I am on the final stages of my write-up; although I cant speak for the rest, but for me personally, I had my contribution to knowledge set in mind (could be vague at start, but got clearer with time) the problem is that: I did not write it down till now (could be unmotivated supervision), and honestly watching this video helped a lot in shaping this one sentence.

Hmmm, significance - I would argue that the significance of some work might not be immediately obvious but could emerge later, or in different contexts. For example, while researching my Research masters, I read a meticulously detailed book about transport links in London, which documented individual bus routes, train lines and trams. While this initially seemed to be a book about the development and growth of London transport, I was able to use it to contest a supposed centre/periphery relationship between central London and outer London. This interest in the character of peripheral neighbourhoods is a growing area in urban history, to which the transport book makes a significant contribution, but it was an area that barely existed when the book was written (over 20 years ago).

The significant of PhD research starts by great research question which needs a lot of experience and knowledge in particular discipline .
