after repeated listenings I actually like most of the songs, including the trap shit I didn’t initially love. you just shouldn’t try to approach his parts from the typical rapnerd perspective, as usual with gunn really. he doesn’t try to find “those pockets”. he’s doing his highlevel-ignorant type shit in a new way. not caring for flow expectations everybody would have, just pouring out lifestyle impressions as ignorant as possible. which songwriting-wise mostly gets complemented by more conventional featureguests. and its a genius approach viewed as a album. props to gunn for not just repeating his formula but finding a way of innovating it still in his style and essence. anyway my favorite songs are: kostas, mamas primetime, revenge of flips legs, babylon bis, kitchen lights, jalen rose, ultra grizelda, mr everything, steve and jony
Good reaction, you basically had my same first listen experience, Jon. I think the trap tracks in the second half are legitimately more consistent in quality than the ones in the first half. That said, the project is still solid and songs are still growing on me. I'm on my fourth listen. This was supposed to resemble the old trapaholics mixtapes and dj drama tapes and stuff on datpiff so I get why it was rough.
This has grown on me like crazy I was very eh on almost all of the trap tracks but at this point, I listen to it straight through and barely ever skip anything
I thought it wouldn’t happen 🔥 Great album, WSG maybe had some hit or miss tracks for some, but a lot of these tracks remind me of some earlier trap mixtapes
Half that album is irredeemable. Those trap beats are dated as fuck and bad ones at that and WSG is wholly incapable of rapping over them. There's a really good EP in there, but this album as a whole ain't it.
I think what threw me off initially about this album is how it was meant to be a "Pray For Paris" sequel, so I was treating it like it was supposed to mimic that. Obviously some of the stuff on this record did, but a lot of it also didn't. Once I treated the album like its own project versus being disappointed that it didn't meet my expectations, I enjoyed it more.
I had to listen to this three times through for wsg on the trap beats to grow on me but I’m now a mega fan of his slow flow on these tracks. Grower not a shower for sure
Rome Streetz steals the show on literally every feature he’s on. He’s putting the best shit out in Griselda rn. I also personally think Benny has a better delivery and flow then Westside or Conway
Rome is slept on heavy. Every project he’s dropped has been right up there with Benny & Conway in terms of quality. Rome picks great beats and his flow isn’t flashy but damn does he float on everything.
I love the whole Griselda movement. That said Westside is really trying hard to sound good over trap beats and fails miserably… He’s really the poster child for dogs that can’t learn new tricks.
If there was more of a balance between the classic Griselda tracks and these new age trap tracks, then this might've been my album of the year. I like the trap shit, but West literally sounds the same on every one of them.
Out of all the bloated rap albums to be released this year, WSG made one of the only ones that kept me interested from front to back. Love the style switchups and I can't complain much tbh
I think his voice works for some of the trap tracks on the record however for others it feels out of place compared to other artists on the tracks. As an overall, I love this record, but I agree with the boom-bap sound being more favourable out of the two sub-genres on the record
i don't think that Westside can't do trap, but his flows were way too slow for most of the trap cuts...Mr Everything, where he speeds up a little, sounds much better imo
wow im suprised u understand westside and griselda, how u feel that the trap beats dont work is for him is respectable but then u began to just like, flow, and accept the variety. Its cool seeing him not stay in a box and go to people like Tay Keith and others. The trap songs did grow on me but anyways damn u know how to review some music, coming from a westside gunn fan
Took me awhile to get to your review, but was interested in hearing what you had to say. Jon, be 100% honest, did you really like those trap tracks? Lol. Sorry bruh. I'm not buying it. I don't mind the trap stuff, in small doses, but these particular beats are dated, and Westside Gunn just sounded bad on them. The one with Denzel Curry, mostly due to Denzel, is the only one I thought was semi good, and I kept it in the final version of the album I downloaded. aside from that, all the trap stuff and that awful song with Ty Dolla Sign, were trashed. everything else was dope. Kitchen Lights is a song of the year contender in my book, and the reason I'm looking forward to Stovegod's Griselda debut.

Boring album im really disappointed if i want to listen to trap there is 1000000000 artist out i listen to wsg for that soulful grimmy boom bap feeling
Kitchen Lights just took me somewhere else, the hook on that song is one of my favorite ever. Every time WSG and Stove God collab it’s art
introspecktive i used to watch ur vids all the time, glad to see you have taste
the fact u have such good taste intro is incredible love the vids sense i was a kid
Whipping anthem of the year
??? the hook is the worst part of the song it’s terrible 😭😭
the trap beat songs really grew on me over time but nothing beats the classic grimy luxurious griselda beats, great reaction
Then shits go so hard . Gunn lazy ass flow is od vibey to me
I know KITCHEN LIGHTS gets a lot of love and rightly so, but Babylon Bis is an absolute masterpiece, that beat is heavenly
fr I remember constantly listening to the 15 second snippet before it dropped. glad babylon bis made it on the album it suits the album cover the most imo

Suicide in Selfridges is absolutely insane. Wish it got its flowers a little bit more
CONDUCTOR
JID delivered one of his best verses ever on this record.
I feel like you can say that on every jid verse lol
“Clip long as well and when it block it look like Clint Capela” 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Dawg, watching Jon struggle with those trap tracks was hilarious 🤣
Like you can see he was genuinely trying to give it a chance. lol

There's not many people that understand the whole rough raw datpiff tape sound, they think gun just on random trap beats
Kitchen Lights is probably my song of the year. Its impeccable to me
100% shit is a Masterpiece 🔥🔥🔥
It's art. You can feel it.
it's definitely beautiful but personally i would've loved to hear more drums
revenge of flips leg is one of the best songs of the last 5 years
Conductor, Rome and West one of the best combos in rap rn
Rome left Earth
This has grown on me like crazy
I was very eh on almost all of the trap tracks but at this point, I listen to it straight through and barely ever skip anything
Stove god got performance of the year on Kitchen lights no debate
stove god cooks is just an incredible artist. we need a reasonable drought reaction
Rome Streetz verse on the revenge of flips legs is absolutely insane. Ridiculously underrated artist.
Completely agree

By the time disgusting reached Jon was about to beat someone up😂😂
I know the views aren’t the same on these but THANK YOUUUUU
Stove's been masterclassing the verses.
Waiting for that 1989 TV reaction video Jon 🤞🏼
You have to react to CASISDEAD’s album, by far rap album of the year. He’s the most unique, enigmatic storyteller in UK rap history.
I wasn’t even aware he dropped a new album thank you for enlightening me

Honestly, JD Wrist was 🔥🔥
I wish i could've heard Earl Sweatshirt on Mama's primetime, that beat SLAPS and reminds me of that old school Odd Future sound! @JonDenton agree?
If there was more of a balance between the classic Griselda tracks and these new age trap tracks, then this might've been my album of the year. I like the trap shit, but West literally sounds the same on every one of them.

did jon react to a great chaos by ken carson? i’d love to see his reaction to it, did he just not upload it or did he not react

It's crazy cuz chloe like my favorite dead ass, it's just awkward to listen to especially on camera
Westside doesn’t sound good on trap beats. The highs on this album are very high and lows are super low imo lol
Finally
Some songs here are pretty bad like “JD Wrist”, but, imo, this album is misunderstood just like wlr. Disgusting was a great one imo

I find the style of rap that JID does to be real corny. The Kendrick Lamar voice is super cringe if it’s done by anyone but Kendrick.
