Watching all your PCT videos now, 3 years later... wow, I have even more respect for anyone who has thruhiked all of it. Those mountains and all that snow can't have been easy to handle! Impressive, and the footage is great just as your more current videos of the AT 🙂
@@JayWandersOut It is! Though, coming from Scandinavia, I get more than my fair share of it each winter 😁 But on the mountains, yep... beautiful. Not sure I would have endured walking over those mountains in all that snow, got so much respect for anyone doing it!!
Gayle Walker Wait until you see the next videos. :) For some reason Kearsarge was so clean it was almost confusing. I was more confused a couple of days ago just hitting snow fields after snow fields. The bit before Sonora Pass was pretty bad.
Gorgeous video! That climb out of Onion Valley is no joke. That’s a great weekend trip with some sweet tent sites around those beautiful lakes and fun fishing. Glad you’re enjoying the hike! Carry on...
Kelli Rustin So true! I felt for the 40 or so weekend trippers heading up with much bigger packs than us... then again we did go back up with 10 days of food and ice axes which most of them didn't have. I would love to head back though and fish in some of those lakes and just relax and not care about miles.
Exquisite views, you did a great job capturing the immensity of the landscape. Don't worry to much about the colors right now, you can do color correction work on a computer when you return home. Your timing on reaching this section was perfect: any earlier and you would have had to wait or skip; any later and you would miss the beauty that comes with the snow putting the rugged landscape. Thanks for these wonderful videos, Jay.
Video and still photo color : if your not seeing the rich color being recorded then you likely are shooting AWB. Chances are your video recording app allows you to set AWB to a specific K (Degrees Kelvin temperature setting for White balance ). 55-58 K is pretty much daylight balance. Now if your on AWB and you shoot a sunset 🌅 with lots of orange and yellow, AWB will mute those colors because it sees yellow and orange and tries to make it neutral, so your colors are muted. Shoot AWB if you are comfortable with that, it’s a good place to be if you are around artificial lighting and taking pictures of people. But if you want the colors you see of the environment, try setting to manual light balance 55-60* K. Your blue ice and green waters is less blue &green because of AWB. Same for yellow orange sunsets with less color. If you were a clothes photographer you would shoot manual light balance and balance your existing lighting off a neutral greg card so that the grey was recorded neutral grey , then all the clothes would show accurate colors.
Hey Jay! Wow, I think this is my favorite vlog so far.... GREAT pictures in the mountains and in the fog. Good stuff!!! The video sets you up for the pictures at the end.... great way to do it. Nice to see the conditions as I go in Kearsarge in a few weeks. Also NOT so nice to see all the switchbacks... : ( Keep on trekkin' Jay!
Hi Jay, Greetings from San Diego Bay again. We greatly enjoy all of your wonderful clips. We especially like the longer clips since we get to see even more of your adventure. If you have time and if you're not too tired, next time can you please make longer clips. Thank you in advance.
Kisoon Lee I've been kind of filming as I go and some 3 day segments have more footage than others based on what piques my interest. Some people like them shorter but I've been aiming for 25-30 minutes since I think most people don't want to see them longer. We'll see.
Kearsarge Pass was a side trip, I thought it was on the PCT, got confused a bit, then looked it up on Google Earth. Very cool to have PCT trail on Google Earth, (it’s a down load extra, link at PCTa.org). I would say that side trip was worth the views, but more work. Lovely area.
Randy Smith I had sent a package to Independence so I wanted to get it and I just wanted to do it as well. The views are worth it! The hitchhike in or out from Onyon valley can be tough though.
Doc Holliday There were but they were absolutely tiny. We didn't get close to lakes not right off trail though. The bigger trout live in the deeper waters and even bigger ones are all in lakes at lower elevation.
enjoying your videos! The lands shots were awesome! Thought you were going to cut when crossing the snow slide (going blank on the name). Do the joint health pills help?
Not sure it helped but I think before Big Bear there was a steep down segment where the trail was slanted so your feet land at an angle all the time. It was killing my knees so I gave those pills a shot and eventually I felt better but it could have been anything. I felt injury was the only thing that could stop me so I tried it out and it sort of worked out... although that stuff is expensive!
Drink and get HIGH ? In my hiking days (60-90s) I always carried 2 extra of food. Never caring about the weight. (external frame pack ). If I was getting high then their was more food for the munchies. Hurlgoat just released another vid of his Sierra High Route of the PCT. He was carrying 10 days of food and it wasn't enough, supplied in Mammoth and Bishop, in October with no micro spikes or ice axe.
"Any day that Silence deafens me, is a good day in the Wilderness." Solo Over 50. I've been waiting for this one. So good! I'm curious, do you leave all your gear and electronics at the hostel and trust it will be there when you get back from shopping?
First, ha ha.....Excellent video Jay....you must have been up late last night replying to my comments. It was late in Hawaii when you posted....were you up early or did you not go to sleep till the wee hours of the morning? I'm looking forward to your next video....be safe....
V Poppawolf Yep. Zeroing at Bridgeport and waiting for a video to render so I can start the upload to YT before I can go to bed, like I'm doing again. I need to queue this one more before I head back onto the trail.

The snow is beautiful right? I loved seeing tiny little dots moving along the lines in the snow on the mountain sides.

Just amazing
Great episode. That pass seemed a little milder. Great views and music.
Wow, Jay gets better and better, Thanks for taking us along
Water, wind, birds...and me! Love it! Keep on hiking!
Kim Zabel Will do!
Absolutely incredible views! WoW!! I can't wait till next year!!! Thanks for sharing these beautiful moments with us! ☺️

Simply Stunning !!!!
Btw, mixing Couscous with MH meals is a brilliant idea! Just got to get the water ratio right. Thanks for the tip!

The still pictures of the landscape and mountains is absolutely stunning! Where there any fish in the lakes?👍👏👌

Jay Wanders Out thanks for the info! You Rock!!!🙋👍🍺🇺🇸
That's a lot of snow Jay. How early were you guys going through the Sierra? My hats off to you!
Jay, can you give the date while on the trail? Thx

My car's almost ready to start venturing around the country. Not sure where yet but I do know south.

At minute 12:20, what in the world is on your bed? Red blotches? Maybe I don't want to know...
Sarah Lemmon The sheets I had had all sorts of colors dyed in so nothing crazy.
