Beautiful! I’ve done the 26 glacier cruise out of Whittier! I was fortunate to spend the summer of 2004 as deckhand on a 78 passenger cruise ship, we sailed from Whittier to Cordova every week for the summer!!!
It's one of the best videos of Alaska glaciers I've seen!!! Beautiful videography and scenery!! Did he mention how much glacier had receded since 1979 I think it was.
According to geologist, Columbia Glacier is one of the fastest retreating glaciers in the world , over 1/3 mile every year since 1982 presenting a loss of over 9 miles.
It's been pretty nice! If you're into fishing at all this is a fisherman's paradise. Just having the chance to catch red salmon and eat them fresh is amazing. I think I've ruined salmon eating in the lower 48 from now on.
You got to see a lot of side trip Glacier fronts that I did not see which were very beautiful. I kayaked from Valdez to Whittier and as a side trip we paddled into Columbia Glacier for which I was shocked at how much receding had taken place. You got some nice time with the sea lions which is nice, we did not see that, and that was probably good as they can be a bit silly and not shy and you don’t want to go for a cold swim with a sea lion. I had one spit water at me once but fortunately he did not slam the kayak. You had a nice trip there, good choice.
I guess the stellars sea lions are an endangered species so are normally as common. We learned that they were very rare in the area but in recent years have been settling in and biologists are keeping an eye on them.
Thank You Jay & Tina for taking us along with you. That was cool watching that Glacier break apart like that.
Great video with lots of great beautiful views, a whale, and lots of sea loins, so let's keep on hiking 😊
That glacier footage was perfect
I used to live here this brought back many memories thank you!❤

Very nice! Free cruising all over the place. I considered working in IT on a cruise ship but never looked too hard.

Disconcerting to learn glacier is melting so fast.
