My old dad loves this show too. He even puts it on to fall asleep in the night. Like a comfort blanket and spending time with old friends. Lovely video
My daughter lives there and I used to live about 100 yards from the house where Nora Batty was supposed to live. I'm only a couple of miles away where I am now. We're blessed to live in such beautiful countryside.
This was and is the greatest show ever made myself and wife every night at 11 never missed watching now my wife has been gone for 12 years and I still watch it every night it warms my heart love to all that worked in and on this show thank you from oklahoma

As a young boy growing up in the early 1980’s, it was always the norm to watch Last Of The Summer Wine on a Sunday evening in our house. They were a fabulous duo. I have many great memories watching them as a young lad.
My dad who passed away in 2017 enjoyed the show and the theme music was played at his funeral. I've been to Holmfirth once and I would like to go there again. It would make for a good video. One of my favourite recurring scenes is when all the ladies do the synchronized tea drinking.
A poignant reminder to do things together with parents and grandparents while they are still with us. I too love the humour of this series. Great stuff!
The music makes my entire body swell with emotion. There is not a lovelier piece of music, the words as well. I too missed my dear Compo as you walked his streets. Thank you for sharing this.
I loved "Last of the Summer Wine" more than any series. I felt I lost someone dear to me when Compo died. I watched because Cleggy was still in it and Foggy, Nora, Ivy, Edie, Wesley, Glenda, Barry. However it was never the same when the Three were not together. I love the theme song. Thank you for sharing this memory.
Your most welcome Nellie Dailey...glad that you enjoyed the video my dear father loved the series and i came to love it also when he passed..please feel free if not already please subscribe and we have lots more videos like this one on the channel...take care 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I know what you mean Nellie, but actually Foggy had made his last appearance nearly 3 years before Compo's last one. The others you name were all still in it after Compo died though, although sadly Gordon Wharmby (Wesley) didn't have much longer left himself at that point.
That's better then the other one I was looking at. Couldn't pick a better place to record this program. My favourite Christmas 1988. After this santa-claus the movie. I recorded both together
Such a nice tribute to your father, In my humble opinion, for such a well known and loved tv series , this iconic places should be better preserved and showcased for the fans and more importantly the next generation.

I wish Wally Batty got more recognition for how great and funny he was...sadly he was only around until 1987 when Joe Gladwin died so he is kind of forgotten about. I would say he was the funniest character out of them all
Visited there a few years back! Lovely area. Went round where Compo and Nora lived, saw the cafe, to busy for us to go into as it’s so popular with the tourists so we wandered across the road to a pub ( cannot remember the name) and it wasn’t the “Elephant & Castle, from there we then went up to “Emerdale farm area and that was quite interesting, visited the “Woolpack” and had a couple in there! Very nice few days away!
A lovely place to visit. I went there and saw the village. The cafe was open and I had tea in there .The house of compos love interest was there. If you have the chance visit it.
I bought myself a copy of last of the summer wine on video from a market stall over in Neath a few years ago, as I wished I'd keeped hold of them now, as you won't find them on dvd, as you'll noticed you get the full episodes on video, as they sometimes cut parts out when shown on tv and sometimes when released on dvd, as I've still got steptoe and son on video & some other Film's which we're only ever released on video only.
Been to Holmfirth a few times and stayed at one of the locations pub!1 Great show but sadly the BBC preferred men making pies and bailiffs evicting people AND not forgetting estate agents selling houses!! Sadly we have no more shows that appeal to the White British majority of people as the BBC prefer to be Ethnic television
Back n the days the Licence was worth paying. Me not had one for 3 years. So watch beauties like this. Visited, had tea in Sids Cafe. Did the tor and enjoyed the Museum. Watched from the very beginning. bits towards the end. David and Lily Reading.
Was privileged to stay in Holmfirth for 5 days (at the Old Bridge hotel). Was fun to take the Holmfirth Summerwine tour (proprietor of bus named Colin, if I remember correctly). The pick-up point was just steps away from Sid's & Ivy's cafe. I couldn't believe I was there, talk about surreal!! We went on to see where KUA, Monarch of the Glen (Scotland), and Ballykissangel (Ireland) were filmed. This was a surprise trip from my friend (and she loved BallyK). A trip of a lifetime originating from watching Sunday night programming on PBS, here in the States.
I’m also from the USA ( Maryland). Did you find a package deal focusing on touring/hotel accommodations in those areas where shows like Last of the Summer Wine were filmed? I would LOVE to do this!!!!! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@@schwarjm100: Hello Joanne, We just rented a car and made reservations in B&Bs, and hotels. This was a surprise trip for me by my friend. She chose not to book any tours, as she wanted to be free to stay at locations she liked, and just as free to leave locations she didn't like. It was 21 days of pure bliss!! I highly recommend going to any of the locations we went to, but we both agreed that Holmfirth was our very favorite of them all!! You won't be sorry!!

Clegg and Compo the only normal people on the show. Foggy should of been named Froggy.. Love the show I keep watching the reruns. I went down after Owen died and they brought his son on.

Last of the summer wine was so good in the early days but when Compo & foggy sadly departed it was very poor and the scricpts where dreadfull - take your two main characters out of a show and it’s bound to suffer. With all due respect truly and cleggy are dreadfully boring characters
I agree though I think Truly was okay but when Compo left it felll apart and same with Foggy sort of, but Compo more, I also liked Norman Clegg think he held it together. Sadly Foggy left due to ill health in real life and Compo died so couldn't be helped.
I agree, Clegg was still great and it kind of held together when Foggy left for good but once Compo had gone too it was pointless. The 2000's episodes were poor as were the new characters they brought in

Sorry. August 2019.
Just real class just never make them like that any more so but still love watching it over and over
Peter Sallis was the only actor to appear in all episodes of the show, so was really the core of the show.
He also played his character's father in first of the summer wine. How cool is that?
