Yes...y isn't she there...damn they inducted Ronnie Ronnie Specter and the Ronettes..come on Mary Wells had alot of # 1"s the Ronettes had 1 hit! Again just saying
I am a huge Mary Wells fan & remained so until her death. I bought every vinyl album she released right up until the end (still have them) & collected all cd releases after her death. To say she was my favorite singer is putting it mildly. I'm tired of hearing that her work went downhill after she left Motown...some of her best stuff was released after her departure and this song is one of them. Love it ! She was returning to the more gritty sound of her much younger "Bye Bye Baby" days. I was privileged to visit her crypt in Los Angeles & leave some flowers & a card on behalf of my old Yahoo group that I moderated back then..."Legendary Ladies Of Motown". R.I.P. Mary...you were the music of my youth.
I agree with you 100 percent. I am wondering what is wrong with the audience in this video. They look like zombies...some look bored..scratching their faces and what not. And this is "The Doctor" one of Mary's best recordings with a soulful smooth vocal. But then I may be reading the audience wrong. I learned the hard way that one can never tell what white people are feeling as they most often don't wear their emotions on their sleeves. I went to a Supremes concert in 1968 and the audience also seemed so quiet... almost dead. But they ended up giving the Supremes a rousing sincere standing ovation at the end. Maybe that is the way white audiences are as I see only white people in the audience of this video.
I agree wholeheartedly. Her MGM album was superb, "Never, Never, Leave Me", "Use Your Head" etc. were great songs, and of course the Jubilee releases go deeper than mere pop. They are truly soulful. Her version of "Stag-O-Lee" is inspired.
Agree Mary continued to the end making incredible albums have every one of them, shame radio wouldn't program her after Motown exit kept her career from being what it should have been, went to her last concert performance Universal Amphitheater packed audiencc gave her a long deserved standing ovation, first female Motown Superstar Mary deserved more than she got...love this clip album is amazing!
I am one fan of Mary to say that I was happy to see Mary leave Motown. Her recordings after Motown were more earthy, soulful, smooth, and exciting. She never stayed in the box. Mary never got the recognition she should have received in the field of music. She gave you a different Mary everytime she recorded for a new company. Listen to these songs-Gigolo, Spend the Night, Break Up To Make Up, Cancel My Subscription, I Found What I Wanted, Give Her Love or Give Her Up.
How did you find this 45? I heard this song once on some obscure radio station when it was first released in 1968. Yes, only once and I never heard the song again on radio. I went to all of my neighborhood record stores to buy it and none of them even heard of the record. I remember this so clearly because it was the first Mary Wells record I heard on radio since My Guy. I was thrilled to hear her on the radio after so much time had passed.
SORRY BUT I'VE DECIDED TO MAKE MY CHANNEL LOGO BIGGER ON MY VIDEOS AS ALSO BEEN ASKED BY OTHER COLLECTORS TO TRY AND DISCOURAGE SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE DOWNLOADING THEM...PUTTING ON DVDS AND SELLING ON TO THE PUBLIC? THESE DO TAKE TIME TO RESEARCH & SOME A LOT OF MONEY EVEN FOR THE SCREENERS...BUT GLADLY SHARE ON HERE FOR EVERYONE TO SEE FOR NOTHING...THANKYOU.
could you try and get hold of frankie lymon mama don't allow it on the Saturday night beechnut show or clyde mcphatter since you've been gone on the Saturday night beechnut show thanks for the great uploads
I don't think her career would have been that great had she stayed at Motown. After the Supremes hit big and the emphasis played on Diana Ross, there wasn't any female solo artist that succeeded, Kim Weston, Barbara Randolph, Barbara McNair, and Tammi Terrell never hit it big the years after Wells left.
Mary Wells and Miss Ross would have definitely locked horns if Mary had stayed at Motown. Mary Wells was already upset that some of the money from her hit "My Guy" was being used to promote the Supremes's first #1 hit "Where Did Our Love Go?" Remember..there can only be ONE queen. Any competing queen will be decimated by the stronger one. Read the book on bees, especially the chapter on the queen bee.
@@MotownMaster This song is one of Mary's best. But it got no promotion. I heard it once on radio in Los Angeles in 1968 and got so excited. And I kept listening for it again but never heard it again no matter how many radio stations I surfed. Then I went to the records stores and they never heard of it. Some promotion. Maybe Gordy had his dirty blackballing hands in this.
Can we all vote for Mary Wells to be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame? She truly deserves to be there!
Yes! She sure does! The First Lady of Motown. She paved the way for The Supremes, Smokie Robinson, and so many others ✅
@@crystalgrose You got my vote. Long overdue.

I bought this 45 and this recording was on jubilee records and I'm 67 years old now

Why do these white kids look so bored?
Haha they look like they all just woke up
they cant handle her energy
Perhaps some "herbal remedy" before the show chilled them out.
Big mistake Mary when you left Motown. Huge!

I'd have done the same. The Supremes were super-exciting. Add the HDH songs and POW.
If Mary stayed with Motown, I doubt soulful songs like this would have happened

Mary had the most seductive sexy singing voice
