    Bought this game plus the dark tales First expansion about a year ago and have intentionally not cracked it open until I really have a ton of time to watch a full play through of it. It's a LOT. So this could not have been better timed!

      Nice. I don't see any expansions at a decent price so will likely just play this base box and see how it goes. Thanks for watching along!

      I believe there are a bunch of scenarios available as free downloads, if I remember correctly GBG even incorporated some and hosted on their site, it may have been Dark Tales

    Also, the Arcane Ward, I believe is only for protection from Arcane damage, hence the pentagram. The symbol in the upper right of the Rabid Wolf card indicates it is a nature enemy not an arcane enemy, page 24.
    Please keep in mind two things: (1) I don't point this out to poop on your efforts, I am enjoying your work and it is very helpful to those learning the game. (2) You are going to make mistakes and they are part of the game. When you make a mistake that cannot easily be corrected, move on! You will make mistakes that hurt you as well.

      Oh hell. So what is the point of her having that Arcane Shield then? Seems a bit pointless, unless there are a ton of enemies and effects this would block later in the game? Oh well, for now I'll just keep using it as -1 dmg. Thanks for the info though!

      @@PaulDarcy You are correct ... there are Arcane enemies, and that is what that ritual is for. Again, tell me to mind my own business if you are tired of my input. Your play through has me so tempted to break this out again, but I am learning Dungeon Universalis now and I don't want to waste all of my efforts to learn that game. I never played Fall of the Spire, only the base game and Dark Tales. Keep up the good work!

    Logically walking into an enemy is like them "moving" into your dark aura and it wouldn't make sense for it to not hurt them just because you walk into it, but games also have dumb and arbitrary rules a lot of the time for balancing reasons, so it's hard to say what would be allowed here lol.
    As for the rolling for the wolves, if they hit him, even if he can't take damage, they probably COULD still inflict him with sickening, unless the chance to sicken can only happen after inflicting damage.

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm. This game, even in its ruleset, says to make judgement calls on things that make sense for you if the rules are not 100% clear. I kinda like that idea. I see the Arcane Ward as super powerful and the wolves need to get their teeth into you to cause you to be sickened. If they can inflict no damage, than I think that can't happen? As for the aura, I think it should count as moving into an enemies space, but the wording is so specific I just went literally on that one.

      @@PaulDarcy The "making judgement calls"" rule (last paragraph on page 11) is crucial to this game. Many who prefer tighter rules sets hate this about Folklore and waste a lot of time discussing ambiguous rulings and searching the internet. That kills the game. I agree, Paul, that the wording suggests that the Wolves must move into the Aura, but that doesn't make a lot of sense and I would overlook that rule. In addition, as you pointed out in Episode 1, you are "up against it" by playing this game with two heroes because the game is poorly balanced for 2.
      I think you also forgot about the Madman's Avenger power that you chose at the start of the Story. He should have put that tracker token on his first target to have gotten a +1 damage against it, provide you didn't change targets. EDIT: I wrote this too quickly ... you corrected this! Well done!

    I've never played this game, but last episode you had to pick attack or defense at the start of each round, but you didnt this time? The madman couldn't take damage, so 0 reason to pick defense, which should have made him hit on his first attack correct?

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Attack/Defense token is only used during Skirmishes. The Wolf defense is 41, so the Madman whiffed both times didn't he even with a +10 to hit . . . unless I got that wrong?

    I would have called your "40" and "0" roll a "50" because if not, what other roll could you have used as a 40? "40" and "1" through "40" and "9" are obvious, so "40" and "0" = 50. "90" and "0" is 100, and "00" and "0" is 10, "00" and "1" is 1. It works if you are consistent.

      I don't know how or why it happened, but d10s all seem to have 0-9 on them . . . No other die I know of has 0 on it. d20, 1-20. d4, 1-4. d6, 1-6. d8, 1-8. d12, 1-12. So why, oh why, did some genius decide the d10 would be 0-9. Just think how much pain and suffering this would alleviate if you could get d10s that had 1-10 printed on it! Ha ha! Thanks for watching along, and I will be consistent with how I roll. I did scour all of my d10s (I have about 30 or so) but could not find 1 that had 1-10 printed on it! Geez!
