Acrobat along with Chevalier was an actual Class in Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 1st edition that came out in the source book Unearthed Arcana around the time the show came out.
Frank Welker was also the voice of Tiamat, not that she spoke in this particular episode. He also did, if not all, most of the other monster voices and sounds on this show. He was also the voice of Slimer on The Real Ghostbusters, which just seemed to be a more articulate version of Uni the Unicorn from Dungeons and Dragons. Tiamat's voice also shows up on Ghostbusters due to Welker providing, if not all, most of the ghost and monster voices and sounds on that show. He also, and still is, Fred from Scooby Doo. As well as: Megatron, Stripe from Gremlins, the monkeys in Jumanji, the voice of Spock as a child in Star Trek III, and approxiatemately 700 other credits.
You have to understand. I was a little kid who just came back from Japan and this cartoon aired literally the year that followed. I was obsessed about it.
I don't blame you! Like, especially viewed threw the lens of today, it's corny and whatnot, but I still really did love watching it after all these years.
..."The Dragon's Graveyard"... When I saw that episode (at the end of Season 1) for the first time, chills ran down my spine. "We have to *kill* Venger!"
You can track down the script of the finale they had planned: Requiem. A few people have tried making videos for it. It is excellent. th-cam.com/video/m1_6SeRRflo/w-d-xo.html
Today it looks and sounds a little cheesy yeah, but there were some pretty dark episodes, were the kids must face there inner fears, and specially this one "Cthulhu´esk" episode were Eric releases a allmighty nameless demon who destroys everything and known for ruleing many universes. The potential for a remake is huge, if you gave thes teens more background.
For real tho, more TTRPGs need TV shows! Even just 1 low budget season would go a long way and get people interested enough to want to learn the game. While it may seem silly calling JRPGs like Pokemon and TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh "complicated", I think they owe a lot of their success to the TV shows. I mean, think about the smooth-brained and simplistic rules of the games older generations grew up with and enjoy. With the absence of TV shows to get them invested, I don't think anything more complex than Marbles or Monopoly could have gone viral.
It's honestly refreshing watching someone react to this show with laughs instead of just frustration. That white hare trick did honestly get me when I was little, I honestly thought that was clever back then. xP Heck, I say the episodes actually got better as the series moved forward with a lot more epic stakes and custome made music for specific climaxes to some episodes like in "The Dungeon at The Heart of Dawn", "Child of the Stargazer", and "City at the Edge of Midnight." I say those ones where pretty good. I feel like a lot of people are going to have some mixed feeling about it for years to come, but I will never grow out of this old dvd box set I grew up with. Heck, I would even argue that dnd as an animated series could still work even today; either from Vox Machina or for a younger audience like this.
Yeah, as goofy and dated as it is, I had so much fun watching this. Had some people assume that because I'm riffing on it I must dislike it, but I genuinely have such a fondness for it. Figured a video like this was a fun way to introduce more people to it 😁
Just watched this with my 2nd generation Forever D/GM-in-training, and it occurred to me that Transformers is a Hasbro brand franchise and, now, so is D&D. Even as I type this, I'm remembering Hasbro made those Dicelings, too! Feels very full circle. Coincidence? Fate? A diabolical plot?
Your face is fine. The fact that your nail polish matches your microphone sock is what freaked me out. ;-P More reactions would be fun. Other episodes could be good, or how about the old D&D movie from 2000? I came across you from the VTT videos but seeing you do something dumb and fun won you the subscription. Thanks.
Been watching your channel for a while now, love the content. your Chronicles of Darkness video has been really helpfull. hope you do more CofD. on the denizens
Yup, Acrobat... a short lived character class, but it was definitely real, and despite her weapon does seem kinda sucky, Diana is the best character of the group. The most hilarious and rather pathetic thing about the show, was the reactions by the fascist parent groups of the day, they forced the channel to declare before each episode that the show had been linked to real life murder, which as we know was a lie. Unfortunately it didn't stop there, it was nonstop barrages of complaints by these groups of utter losers up until the last episode produced, which sadly the next episode was to be the show's finale, so we didn't get to see that finale until the other year, when members from the Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon TV Series fan group on Facebook produced the final episode.
Dude, there is NO reason to MST3K the old D&D cartoon! No reason to be jerky about it. Its a product of it's time. back then, violence was frowned on/almost banned in cartoons from the USA, so they needed to affect objects instead of causing injury other than a knockdown.
Not trying to be a jerk about it. I grew up watching this in the 80s and getting to experience it after having forgot it, I still love it. Just because I can have a laugh over how silly some stuff is these days doesn't mean I don't appreciate it. I've done the exact same with friends watching old plays we were in in high school. Riffing can be a fun way to relive old days and have some laughs while still appreciating. If you don't enjoy that, that's absolutely fine. But there is a reason. I had a lot of fun getting to watch this again after over 30 years, wanna make myself laugh. No one has to come laugh with me if they don't want.
ACROBAT!
dude - this was my show! One of my absolute faves back in the day! You're mocking it! 😛

DUDE I FUCKING LOVE YOU MAN! FOR BOTH THIS AND MAINLY FACTS. YOU'RE LEGIT MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE TH-camR!!!!

@@TheDungeonNewbsGuide there were a lot of cartoons from that era that I would use for inspirations for some of my later games.

Bro the DM himself has white hair. I suspect that the bad guy may secretly be puppetting the villains in this game of dungeons and dragons.
OMG! I wish you could do all of these.
Literally just came over here from your main channel mainly facts, and I must say I'm pleased with what I see

Back when this first aired, there was no tarrasque! :)
I own the whole set on DVD. Gods, I loved this show!
A charming review! It really brings back memories, my good sir; thank you for this!
Came here from mainly facts, love both content

I was not expecting to to see painted nails associated with your voice
They really did manage to shout “tiamat the dragon” in all lowercase
Fantastic tv series. Once you've watched them all find the "final episode", Requiem, on TH-cam.

Hey newb
Sol attacked with Newb.
It's Super Effective.
I couldn't believe there was an episode where the black chick falls for a Nazi pilot. Gary was wild for that one
mainly facts guy????
It DID get edited, and I DID get to see the video! The dungeon and dragon blends the worst parts of scooby doo and he-man!
I kinda miss THAC0.
Don't judge me.
Birth year brothers! Also for the algorithm
The rainbow light cast on your face is fun
Why are you wearing nail polish?
Because I like to
The character classes in this cartoon didn't exist until 2nd edition: Acrobat, Barbarian, Cavalier.
Incorrect. Unearthed Arcana (and dragon magazine) has these (and other) character classes in 1985. 2.0 came out in 1989.
