Gabby for chainsaw man I looked it up when you said about an inappropriate direct quote from it and it said, " Chainsaw Man is rated as “MA”, which means mature. That standard is defined as follows: This program is specifically designed to be viewed by adults and therefore may be unsuitable for children under 17."
One of my favourites mangas ever is Another, a short series with just 4 volumes, it's horror and I think you might like it! I also love the anime for this one.

Summertime Rendering is so slept on!! The confusion won't necessarily go away there were some things I remained a little confused on lol, but the vibes and characters and plot were great! And it's only 6 volumes!
On or off and Hyperventilation are both manhwa, a.k. korean "mangá", I think you can consider them manga. On or off story gets very good with the second and third volume, and the power imbalance isn't played as problematic. They both respect each other, and the CEO guy isn't the cold and grim type at all.
I also wasn't a big fan of Send Them A Farewell Gift for the Lost Time but I highly recommend that mangaka's other work, Restart After Coming Home, if you haven't read it yet. It's a super sweet and wholesome BL about a man who returns to his small town after getting fired from his job in the big city. I also think you might like The Summer Hikaru Died! It's a horror BL manga about a boy whose best friend disappeared in the woods and came back not as himself. It's one of my favorites!
Im so glad you loved The Promised Neverland and Real Account! I've read all of TPN & absolutely loved it! I read like the first 8 or so volumes of Real account and enjoyed it as well😁

Hey Gabby! There is an anime adaptation of hyperventilation of 21 minutes you can check it out if you want to. The story is same but I think we could understand the vibe of this story better in the anime version.
No girl. It’s not you. The middle volumes of Death Note are so freaking boring. I unhauled the series because I got so angry at the middle chunk. The anime literally uses the first 2 and a half volumes and then the last volume and cuts out all of the middle because it was clearly unnecessary
Dude Death Note is SO misogynistic. It was really disheartening when I read it in 2023. But the anime is so freaking good. I mean, it’s misogynistic. But…it’s not boring so…a win?

gabbyyy, i watch your videos so often that my husband ends up seeing a fair amount of your content too. you got him to pick up ptsd radio and monster, and now he is deep in the throes of manga - he now asks to go to book stores more often than me lmao. he asked me to comment to say that he thought ptsd radio 3 was the best of the series. (im not sure if you ever continued after ptsd1). :) edit: also, it's kind of gotten me dipping my toes into manga too. two series i started are goodnight punpun and witch hat atelier. i think you could like goodnight punpun based on volume 1.

Manga is published by demographic instead of genre. Shonen is geared toward young males, seinin is geared toward older males, shojo is geared toward younger females, and josei toward older females. Although, in Japan I don't believe there is technically a josei demographic, with everything being lumped together under shojo. So yes, Chainsaw Man is geared toward 13 year old boys as it is a shonen. The Promise Neverland is also a shonen, so you can see how vastly one series can vary from another in one demographic.
@@gabbyreads Also it depends on the magazine in which a manga is published. For example, Witch Hat Atelier is a seinen even though I thought it was a shoujo. Banana Fish which deals with some heavy topics is a shoujo even though I thought it was seinen.
I literally just bought an entire boxset of Chainsaw Man because I've been hearing so much hype about it but your description of it has me veeerrry worried 😅
Even though you're not a fan of fantasy, I'd still recommend "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End." It's definitely the best aniume/manga I've experienced in a while! It's about an elf mage who has been alive for over a thousand years and, because she's outlived all of her human companions, she finds it hard to connect with them. But there was group of heroes that she traveled around with for 10 years, and she didn't realize how much her time with them had meant to her until they'd all grown old and passed away. So, it's about her retracing their journey many years later. The way time passes in the story while she remains the same age is really interesting. I guess it's in a similar vein as the book-loving manga you read, where it's set in a medieval world, but it's not really a stereotypical fantasy.
Gabby, if you thought Death Note vol III was bad and boring, you will definitely not like the next volume! I highly recommend stopping now! (And I also loved the first couple volumes in the series). Thank you for this video! It was a lot of fun to watch, and definitely has me hyped to pick up more manga!

Manga just means graphic novel in Japanese and I don't speak Korean but can guess manwa means the same in Korean, and these terms are just used by English speaking markets to indicate where the book is from and some stylistic differences like the direction it's printed in. I feel like in this case you can get away with either term it's no big deal 🤷🏻♀️

You've got me wanting to read more manga! I've been watching The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Love You and just picked up the manga and I'm even more obsessed. Its a harem manga with the ultimate boyfriend. SO sweet.
My favorite mangaka is of course the queen Rumiko Takashi, idk if her mangas are the generes you like but if you have the chance I highly recommend you to read her stories, yo can start with Ranma 1/2 which is like the funniest thing I've ever read, or my favorite from her which is Inuyasha. Hope you enjoy them if you read them.
As an avid manga reader that has been watching your videos for a while now, this was awesome! Erased is sooo good! I watched the anime adaptation and it's one that I think about everyday. I actually just bought Alice in Borderland a week ago because of your videos 💜 I also tried Chainsaw Man and didn't enjoy it 😅 everyone says that the main character does get out of his weird ideology but i dont know if thats convincing enough for me 😂
Loved this video! As for Manga recommendations some of my favourites are Sweet Blue Flowers by Takako Shimura which is a sapphic slow burn friends to lovers story, Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori which is a fun series to read, and The Red String of Fate by Akira Yoshio which is a bi-awakening soulmates story that I found to be really cute!

This was a fun video! It's awesome you were able to find so many manga to enjoy. I think you might enjoy Banana Fish by Akimi Yoshida. I wasn't the biggest fan of the art style in the manga, but the story is so good. If the art style makes you hesitate to pick up the manga I would say still give the anime a try because the animation is fantastic.
The way I thought Chainsaw Man was hilarious for the same reasons she didn’t like it 😂 but there were icky moments, ngl. Man, reading is great. We all have such unique experiences.
My sister in law is pretty into JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. We've also watched the anime on Netflix. I quite enjoyed it. There are a lot of music references. It's a good time :)

I watched the first few episodes of the Chainsaw man anime and found it to be very overrated and cringe. I definitely don't think it will be your taste. It's very "I'm a teenage boy who wants to see boobs for the first time" type of story. And it stays like that throughout all the episodes I watched.

Don't know if you realised but Teki Yatsuda is the author of Home Far Away and The Yakuza's Bias so he's maybe a manga author that suits you.

The promised neverland is one of my favorite reads last year.
Love nest is kinda a spinoff of a spinoff. The series starts with Sayonara Game that goes into Change World then Love Nest and Love Nest 2nd.
Parasyte is going to be a Netflix Kdrama later this year.
