i went to university and did not get my head around spreadsheet, today i beleive teaching is a talent not everyone can teach but this gentleman has figured it all out, after 15 years of not knowing how spreadsheet works i know understood the basics of spreadsheet under 10 mins ....what a pure talent thank you.
He really did a good job and unlike a few of videos I have seen the visual is great.I am almost computer illiterate & I have a basic understanding of what is being implied.
I've been using spreadsheets on computers since VisiCalc came out, but I still learned something from this video. I didn't know that the newer spreadsheets had the ability to copy a formula by dragging the cell into a range! Thank you, Chris.
I was watching this 1 hour before my computer practical because I did not know anything and I literally topped in my class,I am commenting after my test
Great teacher, a total newcomer to spreadsheets but this tutorial was reassuring and fairly easy to understand, ill probably watch it a few times to digest everything but well done the instructor.
Ahhhh, good subject! The first use of computers I can remember (back in my Basic Program Language days) was to create and use spread sheets. You can imagine how excited I was when Ami Pro came out and using Lotus 123! I think even more of a memory was creating when I made my first spread sheet in computer lab (where we were assigned time slots and usage caps). I somehow created a endless loop and walked away without signing out! I had to explain to my class instructor why I was out of time after just one assignment!? In those days, I feared I would never make it through college. I did and there is the story. Thanks Chris for all you do! Rich

Years ago, I taught CLAIT (before it moved to the "Euro IT Passport") to a specific market of Adults and got a 99%+ pass rate for my students. Chris, I think you've knocked the spots totally off another well-known, expensive course provider for how you explain spreadsheets - both in terms of content and production quality. Even though I know how to use the Office Suite, it's great to have a refresher. Not only do I look forward to more, but also to the image manipulation programs also. Thanks for another episode - I wish you a fantastic week!

Thanks for a very simple, clear and well explained tutorial. I've been using Open Office for years and didn't know how to apply a single calculation to a whole column. I was doing it the hard way, which allowed plenty of scope for errors to creep in. Now, thanks to you, I know. Well done!

This is how you teach, my gosh. People suffer in their childhood cause some individuals cannot teach. Consequently, grow up and are not confident or know how to navigate or achieve grades and positive outcomes due to not being taught in a way that’s understandable!.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this..starting a new position at work and I’ve never done anything dealing with spreadsheets..I appreciate you
Excel is made quite simple here. Used to avoid it a lot for the fear that it was difficult but as I was watching the video I kept asking myself what is actually difficult. Just saved the video, I will follow it up as he has said and see if I get the same results as he has.

One powerful argument in favor of the claim that spreadsheets are a superset of software is their unmatched level of versatility. Unlike most software programs limited to specific functions, spreadsheets offer a boundless canvas for data manipulation and problem-solving. They act as a universal toolkit, allowing users to tackle diverse tasks from simple calculations to complex financial modeling, statistical analysis, and even basic programming through formulas. This vast range of functionalities, adaptable to user needs and imagination, sets spreadsheets apart and potentially positions them as a more versatile "meta-software" encompassing the capabilities of multiple specialized programs. While acknowledging limitations in technical depth and scalability, this argument highlights the unique flexibility and power of spreadsheets as versatile tools for exploring, manipulating, and making sense of data in an open-ended way. Excellent and clear video. Easy to follow, glade spreadsheets are pretty much standardized going from Microsoft Excel to any of the free download options.
Thank you. I have never used a spreadsheet before and this was very useful. could you please make another video on learning a new language and putting vocabulary on a spreadsheet.
Wow! I've actually bought myself a small magazine I found in our local shop for 2€ about Excel (despite only owning OpenOffice Calc) but I've never come around to read it - Guess this video-series makes the magazine obsolete! :) Keep it up, I'd love to see more - and thanks a bunch!
+Skelpolu Many thanks for this. I wondered what people would make of these spreadsheet videos. The second will post next week, and in it things get more complex. But I had to start with the basics. A third video is also recorded, but I will go back to hardware or something like that for a week or two between the second and third. Whether I do more spreadsheet videos after number 3 will depend on the views and feedback the first videos get. I spent over 20 years teaching spreadsheets, so it seemed a good idea to give a series of videos a try! :)

You started with creating a spreadsheet. I'd like a separate presentation with more background explaining what spreadsheets are used for and examples of what popularised them in business. It's clearly also an important topic in the rise of the microcomputer.
Great video. It's also even easier to 'double click' on the cell divider line at the top to resize your columns to exactly the desired size without having to click and drag.
I am so happy I found this video my goodness I bet I'll do exceptionally well in my exams. The videos for the the actual exam with the spread sheet topic is a disaster while this is my way of learning VERY EASY AND SIMPLE UNDERSTANDABLE INSTRUCTIONS 👍 I see my self getting straight As this time around.

Left (default) justified text in a spreadsheet cell will always flow to display across the adjacent cells -- as with the title here -- provided that the cells to its right are empty. And that really means empty, not containing a space or anything. So if, eg, your heading is being trunctated by its neighbours, go to those cells and press delete to make sure there is nothing in them. Related, you can also select a number of cells and, right click, and select "Merge cells". You can then format them as one cell. :)
