  • Mogens Dalsgaard plays the Weddingday at Troldhaugen. Actually it was composed 25 years after Edvard and Ninas Wedding. At first it was a fourhand composition, named "Arrival of the Wellwishers" inspired by the many people who arrived at Troldhaugen, when they celebrated their Silverwedding. www.pianist.dk

This is the only performance that I have heard where the lyrical playfulness is brought out. Quite lovely and charming without losing the virtuosity. Very enjoyable. Thank you for posting.

Me again! It’s our 61st wedding anniversary tomorrow, 2nd April. This date also marks one year that my husband suffered a massive stroke. He survived thanks mainly to his courage and determination, but our endless and grateful thanks must also go to the National Health Service in Eastbourne who saved his life that awful day. We both love this beautiful composition by Edvard Grieg and send our thanks and appreciation to you, again, for sharing your music with us....thank you.

My husband partially recovered from the stroke. However, he has returned to the Eastbourne District General Hospital for the 7th time and is currently still there. He battles on and is determined to return home eventually. I shall visit him tomorrow. A 1 hour slot is all that's permitted, per day, but we are grateful for that. He listens to Classic fm on his ipad and the fine music played on this bbc radio programme keeps him calm and in a good place. Thank you for asking after my husband's welfare....

Excellent tempo and phrasing. I often find that non-Norwegians for some odd reason play Grieg's pieces too slow and sluggish, both piano and orchestral works, but this is as bright and clear as it should be. Maybe it helps being Danish ... When I say "should", it's based on my point of view as a native Norwegian who has heard Grieg all his life. There are of course no strict rules and performers are free to interpret the way they want, but then reference points are also part of classical music culture.
