Bought an orange RX for my son, so far I'm very pleased. In the UK we are limited to the EU power output on my DX6 so the higher US output was a bonus. Also made a trainer lead to connect to my DX8 out of an old SVGA cable which works a treat. But I agree, if I have a warranty issue I will most likely bin it whereas Horizon Uk are very good albeit very slow, they will repair out of warranty.
You can use this for your jet. Make sure you get an Orange Rx Spektrum compatible receiver to go with it. This radio does delta mixing which is needed on jets that have elevons (elevator/aileron combined).
Having never used a Hobby King radio, and owning a DX6, which I bought used, off eBay, I'd buy this Hobby King radio new for $65-$70 in a heartbeat. Not enough differences to let that much less expensive price keep me from buying it!
If you go to the product page, and scroll towards the bottom just after add to cart there is a folder tab called "Files". The third ling is a PDF on how to make your own trainer port. The port on the back of the T-Six is an S-video cord. You will have to do some experimenting, but it appears that buddy boxing with a Spektrum Radio is possible. Even if it is not, I can buy 2 of these for just a little more coin than 2 DX5- transmitters, and less thant 1 DX6i.
If I didn't already have the DX6i I would buy the Orange RX for sure, just because it does the same the the DX6i does and its about half the price. I may switch over eventually, I would like to see more reviews and see if the transmitter is as good as it looks. Thank you for the video, its a lot of help
I don't have either one, but the people at my local hobby shop say the dx6i isn't that great. But I've also heard that dsmx is a stronger signal then dsm2. But considering you could buy 2-3 hobby King radios for 1 dx6i, that's not to bad!
Yes, T6 has MODEL MATCH. Are you asking about the receiver FAILSAFEs? If so, I think the OrangeRx receivers have FAILSAFE support, at least the 7 and 9-channel versions are advertised to have it. Not sure about the 4 and 6-channel receivers.
I have a DX6i. For all the people saying they would rather it over the T-Six be warned. As far as I'm concerned the Spektrum is no better and I don't trust mine as far as I could throw it. I have had to repair the unit multiple times due to the shitty potentiometers that Spektrum used. I crashed my quad this eve because of this. I came across this video as I have considered ditching the DX6i for this unit.
Good basic review, I have the OrangeRx and I have to say I like it. My only complaint, as with many 6 channel radios is there are no 3 position switches for the Aux (flap/gear) channels.
When you sent your 6i to Horizon for fixing..did you have the backlight installed then? I have the backlight, and all machined aluminum trim toggles. I am considering sending it in for DSMX upgrade, and am wondering if they will fuss about the aftermarket parts I put in it. Thanks
The only difference that I have noticed is the setting are broken up into 2 columns and 2 pages. There is an option for TX settings where you adjust the "black linght" dispaly time. Yes I spelled it as they did. Lipo and battery alarm.
Horizon hobby have the best after service care and support of any company i have ever dealt with. They've repaired my dx6i twice for free after the warranty was out and once when it was in - all it took was a polite email to their service department and i got an address to post it to. Of course it might still be better to buy the cheaper radio - it all depends how much the after sales service is worth to you...
i have to agree there, before purchasing my orangerx i sent their support team an email to confirm if it is compatible with spektrum dsm2 receivers,im new to the hobby so i was none the wiser.I had my credit card in my hand ready to click the "buy" button and they failed to respond to a simple question.
If you are new to flying and are looking for something cheap, I would recommend the ORX. If you are more experienced, you would like the DX6i. The DX6i is a very good quality transmitter.
I own a DX9, Every Blade Heli, made except for the 600x 700x, and the CX4. plus I own 22 planes. The has all been bought in 5 months! I am now exploring outside of HH products because, yes the best service possible, yet some of their products are way over priced for the quality. FMS makes a great plane at 30% discount with more features, so does Dynam, freewing, Blitzrc and so on. This orange radio at the cost is great to leave in the back of your car, have a few inexpensive planes with it and have fun, YES, FUN, some people forgot with all these cool toys what the hobby is all about. Very happy to see this competition in the market, it will only drive better more detailed products as well as drive down the costs for all price ranges.
What is the process for getting a backlit screen and what's the cost? I got a DX6i at a really good price in a package that I won on Ebay and having older eyes it's hard to see the screen indoors and outdoors. Is adding a backlit screen a mod as I've see folks doing with the Orange Rx? thanks
I have a DX6i... I had to buy my own backlight for the LCD screen, and I have no JST plug for a rechargeable lipo. It is a decent radio, but the price is too high. The DX9 is a good radio, but is about 150.00 more than it's worth. ($400.00) Im glad that HK is expanding it's OrangeRx line. This stuff is GOOD!!!! I've used it, and anyone that has used it that I know, speaks highly of it. They just kinda stood on Horizion Hobbys shoulders and took things to the next level. The T-Six TX is half the price of the DX6i, and it comes with a backlit display, and a JST plug... that ALONE makes it worth it. Not to mention it's a nice backup radio to have incase you want to just swap out machines and keep going without changing a bunch of stuff. Shut down, and grab the orange and go...... I am gonna buy an OrangeRX T-6.
very good review, I suppose if you are using some orange receivers as well as Spektrum recievers and a Spektrum radio which a lot of people are then why would you not buy one of the orange transmitters as well as a spare or to increase your model fleet.
Don't know for sure, but given that the trainer plug is a different shape, I would doubt that this could be used as a trainer for any of the Spektrum radios.

I have received it few days ago. It worked fine and I love all its features but today all of a sudden the LCD display stopped working! Everything else including the LCD backlight is working, it transmitts, mix and flap switches are working on my last selected model but there is nothing on the LCD display! Since I can't select a model and can't see anything on the sceen, it is junk now. Any ideas? Maybe the LCD display is simply dead?
Newbee here... dumb question time...lol will this orange radio work with spektrum only models? like for example: the blade MQX, or the SR120 heli? thank you in advance.
Great question acaone1! I've done some research and can't find anyone who has used the trainer port on the T-SIX, let alone with Spektrum or JR radio. Has anyone done this successfully?
Handy vid, thanks! Do you know if the trainer/buddy box function will work between the T-Six and a Spektrum DX7s (or DX6i)? I would like to buy the T-Six as a starter radio for a 9 year old who is just starting out.
im inquiring if there is some sort of reset button on the dx6i i recently built a quad,,i have several, the one i built i just cant seem to bind this i have the latest kk2 board which i just installed,,cant bind it with either a spectrum or an orange reciever,,i also have 3--- 500 align which i am also having trouble binding,,the other quads and helis are already bound up no problems,,
I've noticed that the DX6i has model matching. My T6 does not seem to have it. If I power up all 5 my planes, I can actually control all of them simultaneously from ant model selection on the transmitter. Is this normal?
Q: Is it true that the DX6i is the same as a JR660? Since they will use the same RX... I am researching and want to get the BEST for the small budget I have. I also don't want to NEED to upgrade after only a year. Thanks for the review and all the comments.
Your review has helped me decide on my next transmiter purchase. I most likely will go with the Orange because of the price on it and the pricing on the recievers. It is just that difference alone plus the others that you mentioned that have made up my mind . Spektrum and JR just charge way to much for the transmiter and recievers and now thereiis one out there that is priced for us poor folks. IMight take off the covering and paint the thing a different color but maybe not . thanks for the post it has helped me a lot
you forgot one very big difference. the t-six is selling for $64, while the dx6i is just over $100... the differences between the two and the lack of dsmx does not justify paying that much more for a transmitter for those of us who are just budget minded park flyers. Orange has had issues with DOA and poor component selection on some of the older product, but as far as I know they have made some changes with their QoS checks. I haven't had any issues with any of them. I will be saving up for a spektrum transmitter later on though for when I plan to get into bigger models and event flying. right now, I can not justify paying over 100 bucks for a 6 channel when All i do is fly 2 or 3 micros and a quad in a dirt field by my house. none of the models i have cost more then 200 bucks anyways.
I have had problems with DSM2 in environments where there was a lot of radio interference. (ie. a city park) Out in quieter areas it's fine (ie. an RC field in the country). DSMX has been rock solid for me everywhere. However it looks like the T-SIX would be a good deal for someone on a tight budget,
No I would not make it my radio over the Dx6 but would use as a buddy box trainer . I have the spm6700 Dx6 that was realest may of this year ,& sold my dx6i and bought the orange for just that purpose and it works great especially on the wireless buddy set up .
will this bind to the blade inductrix, aka tiny whoop? I know it only binds to spectrum controllers but if this dsm2 is the same as spectrum? I'm just curious?
i would buy the Orange. Orange has the best radio system in the World. It has all the features you will ever need in RC. I use the Orange receivers with all my foam planes. And Orange has the best range as well.
Hello, I've been using the T6 for a year now with no model brown outs or any problems like that, however my screen has now started to fade away when in use for about 10 mins or more, the screen will come back after about 5 mins after the T6 is switched off. Have any other owners if the T6 had this problem ?
Actually, to help out with the whole warranty thing, from one consumer to all others who are not in the know; They do have a warranty, usually lipos are 30 days (some are longer if I'm not mistaken) and all their electronics are 1 year warrantied from date of purchase, use it, it actually worked for me and my claim on a KK2 board, just doesn't... work.. on crashes (they don't do crashes).... however, use the warranty.... don't just let it go when something fails withing that warranty time frame. I find their product line is getting better and a lot of the crappy stuff is being phased out.
I'm getting the dx6i mainly because I don't feel like putting my tri or any of my planes (even the $60 ones) in the air with a cheaper 'reproduction' type radio... I know the stats are similar but I'm not putting my trust in it...
I purchased a JR9503 from Horizon which also had a 1 year warranty. Last Aug before the warranty expired I had fuse blow when it was less than one year old and Horizon charged me to replace it so Horizon isn't so great about their support, you got lucky.
You could check to see if any connections came loose inside but if this is a new radio I wouldn't open it. I would just send it back for repair or exchange. Of course, in my case, if I was sending it back from the U.S. I wouldn't expect to see it again for about three months.
it's probably doable, as most radios use the same PPM signal for communication. I can't say for certain, though, since I don't own one. You would probably have to make your own cable too.
Could anybody tell me if the radio will fit into a box, this big - 16 x 9.5 x 6 inches(L x W x D). If not can you please give me the dimensions of the radio. Don't mean to be picky but could you make them as accurate as possible. Also, for the length can you measure from the base of the radio to where the antenna folds at 90°*. This would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :D
I have good overall success with HobbyKing 6ch DSM2 Orange Rx in my plane but won't trust them in my helis or the Orange T-Six TX. Have had radio glitch with 6ch Orange Rx (with my good power-checked DX8 by Horizon) in my plane and my friend's HK450 (with my old DX6i). That said I often fly my plane 400ft high and beyond without radio issue. Don't think I'll trust Orange T-Six though. DSMX is not just for situations with lots of flyers. It's more robust and recovers faster from radio glitches.
I would buy this in a heart beat over the dx6i if I only had a choice of the two picks. You get brown outs with the dx6i if you use an ar6200 receiver and I am sure you won't get the with the Hobbyking products. Read up on brown outs with the dx6i.
+Jacko Packo Agree. Like I said in my video. I am not convinced that the Spektrum is any better in terms of ERP. I still chose the Orange. Never had issues with Range to where my eye can see the model while flying from ground up and I mean a tiny spec in the sky. Beyond that it is impractical, as you will not be able to tell what the model is doing.
Because the DX6i when it first came out apparently the company "think" that they are better than everyone else in the market.. They kept the price for as long as they can but not anymore after this controller came out =) Of course it will work with all BNF models, im sure these guys thought about it before manufacturing this controller.. this radio will be the DX6i killer because it's looks good and cheaper and function the same or even better.
All you have to do is hold a Spektrum radio in your hands, and then a Turnigy, and I'm sure this Orange thing, to know the Spektrum is a couple notches above in quality. No need to open them up, which further makes the Spektrum stand apart. Certainly not 7 times the quality, but clearly better made.
I don't know if I would trust my aircraft in the sky with the orange, at least until it's proven, to look at it another way, when something is sold for so little it usually means it was built for the same, quality or longevity of quality I think would be an issue.
As in most electronics sometimes your lucky and sometimes not. My 6i is malfunctioning intermittently and crashes planes. Orange is on the way. Cheaper than repairs and I might buy another Spektum when their price gets competitive. I think my 6i will meet the shotgun.
Nice review. Exactly what I was looking for! Thanx
Your review was very helpful. I bought the Orange RX T-six and I am looking forward to its arrival from Asia.
I am using Hobbyking ORX T-six Orange transmitter since last 2 years, its functioning pretty good.
Thanks for the Review, had doubts about the Orange equipment Hobbyking, but it was clear that this will be my best option.

So you prefer the silver-painted Chinese made DX6i? They both are missing a flap/gyro knob. So pretty much identical, same transmitter chip.

Thinking about getting this one i would like to see range test.
I've heard that some of the t-six transmitter's have fried circuits as soon as the batteries are inserted and turned on...is this true?

great review. Looks like a nice radio but I'm a newbie and have the ds6i but not enough experience to make a valid comparison.
Does the Orange Tsix have model match and settable failsafe?
I have three questions.
Why is the Dx6i so much more expensive?
Will it work with BNF models?
What is the approximate max range?
Your review has helped me decide on my next transmiter purchase. I most likely will go with the Orange because of the price on it and the pricing on the recievers. Yes, it does bind with planes that have Spektrum receivers built in and with separate Spektrum receivers.
OK great thanks for the info. I am going to get the habu180 jet
Will this unit fly a Blade 450 3D? Just what will need to be changed to fly this 450 series?

Is the OrangeRx T-SIX compatible with the DX6i as buddy box via cable? Also is it compatible with Phoenix RC Sim?
I'd like to know the same. I wonder if the orange TX can buddy box wired or wireless with a DX9
how far can the spektrum go? and what receiver do you use for it? please reply
No I would not make it my radio over the Dx6 but would use as a buddy box trainer . I have the spm6700 Dx6 that was realest may of this year ,& sold my dx6i and bought the orange for just that purpose and it works great especially on the wireless buddy set up .
how do you bind the orange rx t-six to a parkzone micro plane?
will the OrangeRx T-SIX radios work with the Blade BNF model helis?
Gary Vale no, although the spektrum will and is the official transmitter for blade, Hobbyzone, parkzone, etc, a lot of the best brands
will this bind to the blade inductrix, aka tiny whoop? I know it only binds to spectrum controllers but if this dsm2 is the same as spectrum? I'm just curious?
Spektrum has dsm1 dsm2 and dsmx. The Orx can only bind dsm2.
Hi i'm trying to figure this out too, did you manage to find an answer?
Chris Hollingsworth I have one.
nope ordered the turnigy 9xr pro and orange module.

I find their product line is getting better and a lot of the crappy stuff is being phased out.
would this radio bind with the Blade BNF models?
I've been using the orangeRx for years now with NO issues. Serves Horizon Hobby right with there ridiculous prices!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how to swap out a e-flight coaxial helicopter receiver In an -sky coaxial helicopter 2.4 GHz receiver ??
You would probably have to make your own cable too.
ciao issam mi devo comprare una radio che dici e meglio la orange 6 -o la flysky fs6. ? io vedo meglio la flysky.
How do you buddy box Orx t-six.
Is the T-six better than the Devo 7? And the Devo 10 Is better than the Devo 7, isn‘t it?
I´ve got a question..... can i hook this up to a dx 8 for Training?
I was curious about that too
Can end points be changed on either
Sly Law yes they can under end point adjustment on eather
I have good overall success with HobbyKing 6ch DSM2 Orange Rx in my plane but won't trust them in my helis or the Orange T-Six TX. Have had radio glitch with 6ch Orange Rx (with my good power-checked DX8 by Horizon) in my plane and my friend's HK450 (with my old DX6i). That said I often fly my plane 400ft high and beyond without radio issue. Don't think I'll trust Orange T-Six though. DSMX is not just for situations with lots of flyers. It's more robust and recovers faster from radio glitches.
Playing a simulated Do I need to Inside the Transmitter Inside Set To play analog?
If Need Where Set it? Thank You ~
執行 模擬時 是否需要在裡面 設定 才能玩模擬?
would the orange rx work with phoenix simulator
Yes i would a T SIX but one thing i would do is gut out the inside and paint it in black just to make the coler darcker than that britht orange
Because the DX6i when it first came out apparently the company "think" that they are better than everyone else in the market.. They kept the price for as long as they can but not anymore after this controller came out =)
Of course it will work with all BNF models, im sure these guys thought about it before manufacturing this controller.. this radio will be the DX6i killer because it's looks good and cheaper and function the same or even better.
I don't know if I would trust my aircraft in the sky with the orange, at least until it's proven, to look at it another way, when something is sold for so little it usually means it was built for the same, quality or longevity of quality I think would be an issue.
once u use it. u won't say that.
once u use it. u won't say that.
just bought the Mkron version.
mine comes in today. The Mkron version I6s
As in most electronics sometimes your lucky and sometimes not. My 6i is malfunctioning intermittently and crashes planes. Orange is on the way. Cheaper than repairs and I might buy another Spektum when their price gets competitive. I think my 6i will meet the shotgun.
I would go with the dx6i any day.
