Eric- In the midwest where it gets cold, and even here in central Washington, most things open on Memorial Day weekend. Campgrounds, fountains, beaches, parks, pools, etc. Then everything closes on Labor Day weekend.
That is known as a DUST DEVIL. It's heat thermals that cause an upward Vortex picking up loose debris as it moves. I've hit pretty large ones myself while driving causing me to jolt from side to side.
I really like your editing with the motorcycle on the map. I follow you as much as possible on google maps and sometimes I get lost, lol. Love your quirky videos.
Thanks for stopping at the time capsule! Back when I was in college at Seward, we'd be out there regularly because the furniture place behind it (called the "House of Davisson" then) was also a video rental business. There's actually two time capsules there. The first is underground, with the 1975 Vega. The second is the pyramid and was installed in 1983. The pyramid has a used 1975 Toyota. There's also a brand-new Kawaski motorcycle in the first time capsule.
Hi Eric and Jax. Enjoy catching up on your travels buddy. Btw that head sculpture you passed reminded me of that head sculpture thingy in the movie "Prometheus" :-p
Love the motorcycle graphics, reminded me of The Family Truckster in the movie “Vacation “. Thanks for sharing your adventures Eric. Be well my friend.
The skates which fit on your shoes is what I learned to skate on, under my carport, in the mid 1950s! Had to have a skate key around your neck or somewhere nearby, because you had to adjust them often. This was a good video, Eric. I love some of the same quirky stuff you do, and I'm decades older than you :) Abandoned places intrigue me, and I wonder about the stories, or, as a writer, I can make up my own. Nebraska has turned out to be very interesting :) We are .... Papa and Mama Shoestring Travelers and 4 Furbabies.
HAHA, the metal skates fit over your shoes, reverence the song, "I have a brand new pair of roller skates, you have a brand new key...", the key allows adjustment of the skates to fit.
The motorcycle on the map was an excellent touch. My first skates were those ones with the metal wheels. We had our skate key on a string around our necks. Those things were so deadly! They'd come off our shoes but were still strapped to our ankles. Lots of rough crashes. LOL
Lost On Land Again I still have mine 😂. Isn’t it amazing how we all wiped out, slapped on the bandaid & ran right back on them. And our parents didn’t sue the skate company 😜
We got in a dust devil on a lake! We got to our fishing spot in a John boat with an electric motor, and it pushed us all the way back across the lake to where we started! Dad was not a happy camper!
so for the first time i noticed those lincoln highway signs.. In council Bluffs on Broad Way their main Street. You should go to the Union Pacific Museum in Council Bluffs just off the High way very cool. Free tour.. Boys town in Omaha also a free tour. Omaha has a 3 mile section of the original Cobble stone Lincoln Highway preserved. They re routed the Lincoln high way in the 50's in Omaha and the section was set aside just for history sake. great show keep it going
That is what they call them in the desert areas out West, mostly dust devils. However, getting hit by one of those while driving a high profile vehicle makes it seem like a mini-tornado. lol
LOL! I grew up in that part of the Midwest. We called those dirt devils! Aside from the rotation, they are nothing like a tornado! ;) I've really been enjoying your Lincoln Highway series! Thanks so much!
Jax's likes being where you sit because when your gone it comforts him, to bad those water fountains weren't working they looked cool especially that giant head, keep up the good work!
Love the new cycle graphic! I actually had some of those metal skates when I was a kid. My brother always took them apart and nailed each half to a board and made... wait for it... SKATE BOARDS! They had metal wheels and weren't great. Also the biggest pain was you needed a key to adjust the size on them. Yup... I'm old... lol
Go check out Mahoney state park. Or wabunsi park in the Loess hills. Also south of Nebraska city is a huge wildlife area by Big Lake, home to a few bald eagles.
We, too, loved Nebraska. As a former special education teacher, it was inspiring to see Boys' Town in Omaha. We also felt the rest stops were exceptionally nice. We could be comfortable living in Nebraska.
OMG MY FIRST SKATES, WERE METALS WOWW I WAS LIKE 6 YEARS OLD. OMG IT TAKES ME BACK, OH MEN AWESOME LOL. I LOVE ANTIQUE STUFFS. THANKS ERIC FOR SHARING. 😉😎👍👍👍👍👍👌. MILAGROS MOGRO FROM FL.
My first car was a 1975 Chevy Vega! Despite the Vega not having the best reputation, mine ran great for many, many years. I sold it in 1989 to a teenager and it was still running good, only needing a new water pump.
Cant believe you were in Nebraska and didnt eat at Runza. (Fast food chain only in Nebraska and its AWESOME!!) And the absolutely amazing Capitol Building. You were a few blocks away.
Just got back from the skating rink... old school night, sounds of the 70s is good skate music. Lots of skating still around including speed skating for all ages. Lincoln is home to USA Roller Sports.
Eric you're always coming up with fun innovative things, the bike on the map was cool. It's nice to see it's well-received judging by comments. I also imagine it serves dual purpose, helping to hamper frequent derogatory and unnecessary comments over what you wear and how you ride your bike. 😏 You take precautions to protect yourself and Jax... that's all that matters. 👍😺😉
Been living in lincoln all my life, never been to the roller skating museum 😂 Also, there’s a reason for the water trickling in the head statue; i just don’t remember what it is
Just found this online: ig, Clanging Head of Bricks Ten feet tall, weighing eight tons, it's the largest of several big brick heads built by New York artist James Tyler. Named "Groundwater Colossus," it's meant to personify the Ogallala Aquifer that sits beneath it. Loudspeakers embedded in the head sometimes play the sounds of tricking water -- and sometimes play the sounds of clanging metal to represent the jarring impact of people on the environment. Tyler completed the head in 2010 and shipped it to Lincoln as bricks. It sat in storage until it was reassembled 2012.
It was probably a whirlwind you drove through .Nice camp site in Nebraska. Fun touch with the motorcycle on the map. My aunt and uncle were champion roller skating dancers, using the pre-rollerblade version of skates.
I call those mini vortexes "dust devils " , when formed over freshly plowed fields they can be very dark with soil . All those free campgrounds and many with water feature sure do look nice and relaxing .
Hey Nomadic Fanatic! I would love to hear your take on this tag question “What was your biggest fears before becoming a nomad?” You have great content and you probably already answered this on your channel but there is definitely a nomad community that I would like to see grow with questions potential nomads may have of there own! If you not able to answer no worries I will still be watching my friend! 😃🙌🏾
Loved your dirt devil encounter. I had mine on foot. It was about 10 feet tall, and I was like, 'Oh cool, look at that!', as I walked up to it. (I am also Pacific NW born and raised) Got dirt and sand in every crevasses in like a millisecond! Didn't do that twice! Lol.
Back in the fifties, I had a pair of those metal skates. There was a song in the 70s, "I have a pair of brand new roller skates and you have a brand new key."
Hi from BREMERTON! This is one of my favorites videos yet. Love your quirky humor. Got a blue Don't Be a Tator Hater t-shirt for my blue-eyed honey. We both love it. Happy travels!
They hold nationals in Lincoln, or did when I was skating...I skated from 1062 until 1973 Dance and figures competition for all 11 years, loved it, still have my last pair of skates in the closet, just can't seem to get rid of them yet, at 65 probably should...LOL Dallas and Diva say hi to Jax...pictured here.
Jax misses you...so he just nestles in your spots. 😺 Definitely unusual stuff in Lincoln, thought it was a larger city. The route has 'lots' of history. Time capsules are fascinating, surprised that one wasn't longer considering the stash and size. In 2025, it will only have been 50 years. 1975 doesn't seem so long ago. Thanks for the video! Safe travels. 🙂
Lincoln is about 250,000 people and is the second largest city in Nebraska (Omaha first). Interesting note: On Nebraska football home games, Memorial Stadium is the third largest population center in the state. Stadium seats 90,000+ people, has the NCAA consecutive sellout record and good luck getting a ticket without going to a scalper.
New subscriber from Australia man, That time capsule is awesome. I am going to be looking for one here in Australia to film for my vlogs. I also think I need to get a Motorbike. Man your cat is a chubby one lol.
❤️ love the vlog...it would of been funny if the head art piece water fountain would have come on when you were standing there. Hahahaha you still find the most interesting places.thanks for sharing.
Please explain where the time capsule is near Exit 111? I live in Tumwater and only know of the one at the Capital and didn’t find anything from a google search
Hi Mary. I'm almost positive you've seen this capsule off the freeway and not realized what you were looking at. lol. It's hard to get to off the freeway, but I will explain. Next time you are driving south on I-5... As you come up the hill after exit 114, look up to your right exactly where the "Lacey Exits" sign is that lists 3 exits. You'll see the white dome up the hill off the right side. Although because of the angle, it might be easier to see when you pass this spot going north on the other farther side of I-5. To physically get there, you'll have to take some back roads and walk at the end of a dead end road. Here are the GPS for where to "see" it off I-5: 47.067772, -122.732917 The closest GPS to physically "see it" is to park here: 47.068541, -122.735812 and then walk to: 47.068422, -122733442
That was Nebraska lol cool you caught it on film. If you get lucky, you can watch "falling stars" hit the atmosphere and break up. Also, lots of ditch weed near cornfields. You are making me miss NE so much. Lol
I really want to cruise around Nebraska now, looks like a good time, plus plenty of places to watch trains. I’m wondering if that “art” house was an Hippie Commune at some point. Safe travels to the next state bud.
WigWagWorkshop prarie peace park was a guy conning students to spend their summer there to prove they could live in peace, no power no ac, it was a disaster and the state shut it down an prosecuted the guy
Some of the ones I've been to say 14 days, some say 3 or 4 days limit. I have not researched Nebraska Wildlife Management Areas specifically but I'm sure you could go to each one for each one's posted limit. My only question, is how long before you can return? and far do you have to camp away from the first spot. I don't know. Arizona BLM land is very clear about their 14 day rules. Having to be away 30 miles or so for 14 days before returning and such...
Thanks for another great video. I really enjoyed it. This one was cram packed with interesting stuff. I think hippies lived in that old psychedelic house. Probably my favorite thing here was the head with the trickling water sound. That little motorcycle is really paying off for you. Suzuki DRZ 400 should be your next logical upgrade. Onward
Hey Eric, love your channel. Been following you for 2 years. Im wondering if you have an eta on when you might reach the end of the Lincoln hwy and what your plans are after that? Im a full time rv'r as well and Im currently staying (on private property) in New Hampshire and would like to offer you a place to stay if you come in this direction before August.
When I was a child I had the metal skates. Where you slip shoes onto the skates and you tighten it up with a key.
kayleeskottageonwheels Nomad me too! But then my feet got big enough to steal my sister's booted skates, hehehe

Love the bike on the map! Cool
Hi Eric and Jax. Enjoy catching up on your travels buddy. Btw that head sculpture you passed reminded me of that head sculpture thingy in the movie "Prometheus" :-p
We in the Midwest call those "dust devils" & they r teeny tornadic whirlwinds.
Love the motorcycle graphics, reminded me of The Family Truckster in the movie “Vacation “. Thanks for sharing your adventures Eric. Be well my friend.
I’m really enjoying your Lincoln Highway adventures with all the unique art & museums. Thanks for sharing.

My cat Valentine and I love you and Jax to the max! Thanks for another fun & interesting little adventure. Quirky travels are the best!

Never seen one before? lol

i saw the first one in my life when i moved from New Jersey to Hayesville NC i avoided it at first now i aim to hit them lmfao they’re cool
I got caught in one on a small lake while I was in a canoe.
Never heard of that, but looked scary ca!
LOL! I grew up in that part of the Midwest. We called those dirt devils! Aside from the rotation, they are nothing like a tornado! ;) I've really been enjoying your Lincoln Highway series! Thanks so much!

It was common for restaurants and beauty shops to be closed on Mondays after a busy weekend plus business was slow on Mondays anyways.
it's called a dust devil. We get them all the time in the midwest flat lands. And yes, you will change lanes without notice in that huge RV.
OMG MY FIRST SKATES, WERE METALS WOWW I WAS LIKE 6 YEARS OLD. OMG IT TAKES ME BACK, OH MEN AWESOME LOL. I LOVE ANTIQUE STUFFS. THANKS ERIC FOR SHARING. 😉😎👍👍👍👍👍👌. MILAGROS MOGRO FROM FL.
I'm sure that the Vega is buckets of rust. I was given my grandma 1975 Vega in 78 it was rusting out looked like cancer.
Thank you, great video. Always watching out for JAX. He loved the chicken I am sure.
My first car was a 1975 Chevy Vega! Despite the Vega not having the best reputation, mine ran great for many, many years. I sold it in 1989 to a teenager and it was still running good, only needing a new water pump.
think that museum was in the movie Yes Man with Jim Carrey
I remember steel wheeled skates you clamped onto your shoes with a special key. 60 years ago. Motorcycle map was awesome.
That's a very colorful abandoned building. I love abandoned places! That's the main thing I do on my channel
Jax missed you and needed comfort by sitting in your seat. Great video..interesting.

Loved your motorcycle navigation map.
Very cool. Reminded me of younger years. I liked checking out abandoned buildings. A couple were not as abandoned as they looked.
Been living in lincoln all my life, never been to the roller skating museum 😂

THANKX FOR THE TOUR.....LOVE YOU GUYS...
Love the tour and the motorcycle on the map!
Did you ever find the map sticker?
I put the metal on that little building to the right of the head sculpture at 12:20 on your video :)
About 7 years ago when I used to live in Omaha.

Beautiful back here in Lacey. You left at the wrong time. But I am enjoying your trip. Thanks.
I love to hear about the weather.
* Lovin' the animated motorcycle map
* UR 1 of the BEST YT editors
* Nothin' better than chicken & taters
It was nice to see that there are so many free places to boondock. I am concerned about the no cell service in much of Nebraska though.
I love abandoned places!
That wind blast you drove through at the start are called dust devils here in the desert Southwest.
LOL, I'm 68yoa and spent many weekends at Skateland in Cabot, through high school. It's still open. Great video
I too thought the motorcycle map was a neat idea. It really showed how much you travelled around looking for things to see and video.
Please explain where the time capsule is near Exit 111? I live in Tumwater and only know of the one at the Capital and didn’t find anything from a google search

Lovely views! 🌿🌲☀️ Thanks for sharing!
We still have Skateland in Union Gap/Yakima WA
Wonderful vid Eric. Thanks again for sharing.
Roller skating museum was cool, we had a skate land in KC also. The tw on the map is neat to, looks like mine 👍
I went to a KFC at dinner time and they were out of CHICKEN! So funny.
I love the quirky stuff too, a friend of mine lives in Greeley town of about 4000, not far from Lincoln or Grand Island!!
That was Nebraska lol cool you caught it on film. If you get lucky, you can watch "falling stars" hit the atmosphere and break up. Also, lots of ditch weed near cornfields. You are making me miss NE so much. Lol
“Well duh Dad, your seat sits better than mine!”
Loved the motorcycle on the map!
The conestoga wagon used to be a gas station, the a bike shop. Then a golf shop
Thanks for Another great video. Loving this trip with you and I across your great country. Take care. George in Cornwall U.K.
Those pet beds emit chemicals from the manufacturing process. Wash them with unscented soap; it'll be better for Jax.
The wind tunnel is called a dust devil. They are quite frequent in the SW US so I'm surprised you haven't seen them before.
as your trip pass thru Fremont,NE you might see Hormel plant that made a recall have 226,000 can of spam meat recall ~ but it only pork?
hahaha great video but got to LOVE Jax!
Monday is the slowest day for restaurants so I'm not surprised Eric finds small places are just plum closed
Keep the motorcycle on the map, that’s awesome 👍👍 !
I love all the cool things you find!
I always wanted to go to Lincoln, NE.
I really want to cruise around Nebraska now, looks like a good time, plus plenty of places to watch trains. I’m wondering if that “art” house was an Hippie Commune at some point. Safe travels to the next state bud.
WigWagWorkshop hippes and vinyl siding yep....nailed it.
WigWagWorkshop prarie peace park was a guy conning students to spend their summer there to prove they could live in peace, no power no ac, it was a disaster and the state shut it down an prosecuted the guy
Looks like Barry Goldwaters tomb in Phoenix.
Love abandoned places. So cool
Quirky stops
☺✌🙏❤😺❤👏👍😉
Great video. Love Jax 💕
Thank you for sharing your awesome video
The motorcycle sound for the graphic should be Rain--- ier --- Beer...
feels like we are all friends traveling with you. love your vids!
Is it free.. 14 days combined all camp grounds in Nebraska..or 14 days each place?
Some of the ones I've been to say 14 days, some say 3 or 4 days limit. I have not researched Nebraska Wildlife Management Areas specifically but I'm sure you could go to each one for each one's posted limit. Thanks for taking me along. Now I'm hungry.
Onward
Now that’s strange water trickling giant head!! Love the cartoonish motorcycle on map lol
Hey Eric, love your channel. Been following you for 2 years. Im wondering if you have an eta on when you might reach the end of the Lincoln hwy and what your plans are after that? Many of the Lincoln fountains do not start until Memorial Weekend.
