Thanks for the video. I'm stuck at home due to a stay-at-home order from my state's governor, so having something to watch helps with the cabin fever. I think you'll enjoy playing this old Epiphone when you finish it up. Don't worry about the trolls. Every channel I've visited so far has had an uptick in trolls since people have had to stay inside more. It's sad that people can't find anything better to do than spew a bunch of crap to inflate their egos.

I just want to say thank you! I've learned so much from your videos. I think the most important thing I've learned is patience. You have more of that than anyone I know! Your attention to details is amazing and I've been trying to apply that to my projects and be more patient with things to get the best results. Thanks again!👍😎🎸🎶

Hey Jerry, thank you for another great video! I think it a positive that you try new things and do it a little differently. I was becoming a purist when it came to glues and particularly liked the hide glues and you set me strait over a year ago by patiently answering my questions and proveing me wrong with your videos. Thank you!

Another video where you can only learn. I am always happy to understand your comments, even though my English is very bad. But your videos are getting better and better. Putting so much patience into a video is fantastic. with us here in old Germany you won't get anything like that. So much input for the repair of a guitar is unique to me. Our disposable society should take an example from you and the self-build guitar builders can only learn through you. Thank you, I will remain your fan. Greetings from Germany

Blow off the Trolls, if you ignore them, you take the only thing they really want ATTENTION. I love watching you work, and explain what you do, and why you do it. Thank You for what you do. TIP: If you stick the tape to the rug surface that you work on, it takes about 50% of the stickiness away from the tape (the rug fibers act like a buffer) you should have less finish tear-out.

My finger temperature gauge I used in the lab when checking transistors and such.
130F touch it and you can hold your finger on it for a pretty good while.
135F touch it and you are inclined to untouch it in a few seconds.
140F touch it and you snatch your finger back within a second.
145F touch it and you wished you hadn't.
And finally for transistors that were clearly over 145F.
Lick my finger and slap the part. If it hissed then it was over 212F. Which might be within the mfg specs but is just not a good idea to leave it that way for long. Change the design. We aren't shipping space heaters we're shipping radios.

If you're worried about tape on old finish, there is the traditional way of containing the binding which is to wrap the instrument in cotton rope (www.guitarrasfdc.com/2012/05/binding-using-hide-glue.html). That will keep it in place and protect the finish. I use surgical tubing when I wrap which puts pressure on the binding while holding it.

Perhaps this is a silly question, but why did you do the neck binding first before leveling and crowning the frets? Aren’t you making your job a bit more difficult that way? I have seen you working around stuff many times, but just because you can do it the hard way, don’t mean you have to. Unless the binding was done specially for the video. Are you going to bind around the F
hole? I also have noticed on your own guitars and mandolins you use wood binding, but on the customer instruments you use both types wood and plastic. Which is better? Which do you prefer? Good job as always, especially on the mitered corners

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Plastic was used on this one originally so I'm using plastic just to try to make it look like original. Regarding doing it the hard way I can't tell a bit of difference. I'm not sure why it's any harder to do a front yard with binding on that it is without the binding

    That's a Frequensator tailpiece.

This particular tailpiece was designed in the 1930s by Guild associate Herb Sunshine and used on the majority of their upscale archtop guitars well into the 1970s, after the company was purchased by Gibson in 1958. The Frequensator allows for a longer string length on the three bass strings and a shorter length on the three treble strings. The original had a nasty habit of cracking at the right angle bend of the anchor, across the edge of the guitar. It was impossible to fix and thus required the purchase of a new tailpiece."

Jerry, would it be possible to mark your archival videos (older projects) as such?
It would keep people (like me) from posting pointless comments, before noticing it is an old project.

Hey brother Jerry. With a job this complex, how on earth do you quote on this?
Do you give a firm quote for the complete job; or quote to make the guitar playable, and then ballpark the cosmetics, then contact the customer at every aesthetic stage for go ahead?

Presently I bill at $80 an hour. I give a quote on how many hours I expected to take. On some jobs I say I will limit it to a specific amount of time depending on the issue. If it takes more than that I just eat the cost. What other jobs I explain that I have no idea how long this is going to take but my guess is about this many hours it could be a few hours more Etc. Parts are always whatever they cost so I don't charge extra for those

Yes I have used acetone countless times. I don't find it all that amazing. Fact I find it a fairly weak attachment most of the time
