Those bucket seats are mounted on the wrong side left to right. The tilt mechanism should be on the outside of the seat, and if you look under the lower cushion close to the trans tunnel you will find the forward and back lever.
Hey Randy! I've been watching your channel ever since the blue dodge dart video I randomly stumbled upon, I've been watching every single video ever since. I'm 14 1/2 and you inspire me to the limit's. In fact, I always loved cars and trucks , I played with toy cars and trucks since I was a little baby, now I just love watching videos about them, mostly yours. I have gathered lots of information about them and vehicles in general, which hopefully will help me build my future. Watching you go through the auction sites just brings me joy and makes me want to do it. Though I'm too young to do this, I sometimes just imagine my self doing it. People think these old or even new "junk boxes" are a waste of time or just not worth to the eye. But as you said in your walkaround video's, there are some that are diamonds in the ruff, some that can be a good car to someone in need of a cheap car, or some that are just hidden and you need to really go out there and look around to see for your self instead of just looking at pictures and possibly get screwed over after you buy it. Classic car's like this mustang is just a beauty of its own, in fact all the classic's you currently own are all unique in their own way. I love them. I would love to see more truck content! The main point I'm trying to push out is that your a very inspirational person and to keep going even if your down in the dumps for whatever reason. Yea, haters exist but just ignore them. It's just how life goes. Keep pursuing what your doing! Your changing lives of people, including me simply by just sharing information, about all the vehicles you own, and even don't own (
This one hits hard. My grandpa had a black n gold 73 mach 1 that he gave to my uncle when he turned 16. My dad was in the process of restoring it when he passed away. It’s gorgeous!!
My two cents: Gateway screwed someone out of 27 grand. That kind of money would get you a nice Mach 1. That being said, a very nice 351 powered Grande coupe for 14 grand is, in my opinion, a good deal. I dig it! 😉👍
I agree. Gateway Classics ripped off the previous buyer. 71-73 Coupes have a Hagerty Value of 12-15 thousand in excellent condition. 27,000 is excessive.
Gateway and Streetside Classics both seem to have very, very ridiculous prices on their cars. Also, I went to a local Streetside Classics to me and found that some of the cars looked way better in the photos that in person. They actually had what in photos looked like a beautiful 1957 Bel-Air that they wanted about $60k for that had a place that wasn't prepped correctly on the door and as a result, there was a big round area where the paint lifted and cracked. Now they did have some nice cars however I highly recommend not buying anything from them that sight-unseen. I'm pretty sure that they are both consigners so they're trying to get their little piece of the pie of the vehicles that they are selling on behalf of the vehicle owners.
The harsh reality is a 1973 Grande Coupe is not worth the same market value price as a 1971/1972 Sportsroof/Mach 1. Gateway ripped of the buyer. The 73 Grande coupe should have sold for no more than 15 thousand NOT 27.
Not desirable? It’s a 70’s model Mustang! They are all desirable to a Ford guy!! Love the Mustang and all of your rides Randy! Best car channel on TH-cam!!!!
Hell even $13k for this car is asinine it's a 73 coupe which are not desirable at all. $5-7K is about the true value of one of these. I can see why he is taking losses on these cars like he is.
Here's a trick for ya: I would just use a longer bolt on the bottom of the starter and install a lock washer and nut on the back. You won't be depending on wallered out aluminum to hold that starter. This trick has worked in my family for over 60 years. Also, if you want better driveability, seek out a Ford AOD transmission from the 80s. No computer and it should bolt right up to that engine. It would also eliminate the stripped out starter bolt holes.
It's a rather nice ride for the age and looks like it hasn't been chopped up and butchered. I don't really like the rear window but I wouldn't kick it to the curb over it. I would drive it and hold my head up high.
Cool Stang! I had the 73 Cougar version, one of the best, most reliable cars I’ve ever owned. Drove that car everywhere. I had the 351C warmed up a little, with a comp. cam headers 4V carb, it really woke that engine up. You’ve got a nice one!
That 351 Windsor can be turned into an absolute beast. They shown on Horsepower TV that they can make serious power NA if treated right. That’s awesome that Dire Straits happen to on the radio as well.
Randy I'm so amazed that you are bringing these old 90's cars back to life I love the z24 it was one of my favorite cars so thanks again for finding these awesome cars
I bet that aftermarket radio has a Bluetooth option, been thinking about getting one for my '66 FB. Looks pretty clean with only a few minor issues. I think you did pretty good for the price! When I was growing up, guy in the neighborhood had a bright yellow '71 Mach 1. That thing was so cool!
Even though the 73 is not really desirable i still really like it! And yes put a true dual exhaust on it! Those red seats are much better. I think you got a great deal on the mustang!
For the longest time, I was not a fan of the 71-73s but I have to say, they're starting to grow on me now. I especially like the color combo on Randy's and I never really noticed the cool way that the sheet metal on the coupes running from the side of the rear window down the trunk was shaped until watching this video. It really is a very nice touch.
That’s a nice looking car! It will not take much to get her in awesome shape. That 351 sounds healthy. Great car Randy! I love the selection of cars that you have. I love the z24, and there is something about that Sunbird convertible too! I like the front end on that 73’ Stang!
I found the 1969 to 1973 Mustangs to be the most comfortable to drive of the entire lot. The 1973 Mustang Grande had particularly comfortable seats and comparatively nice upholstery despite the absence of the option of leather seating surfaces. My 1968 Mustang Convertible and 1986 Mustang GT Convertible could have been near identical twins from the comfort to drive standpoint -- the 1986 did have leather rather than the vinyl of the 1968, but otherwise the seating comfort was quite similar.
That's a great deal for the 73. IF the car has tilt you push the signal light lever forward towards the gauges, but be gentle in case it doesn't have. In my opinion 73 was still desirable. The 74 is when the YUCK factor started, basically a Pinto with a different body.

Maybe not everyone's favorite body, but its still a beautiful car. Just enjoy it for awhile and I know you will before it goes on down the line in a few months. I enjoyed seeing it.
I think that the car looks great Randy. I am not sure why the USA market didn't like it at the time, but I am sure that the Australian market would have loved it.
Other solution to fix the bottom starter bolt - use bolt with nut and lock washer Other solution is an all thread with a nut and lock washer on each end
Randy: sharp 73! I am in the minority, but the 71-73 Mustangs are my favorite Mustangs. Advertised as "sporty, personal" cars, they do drive nicely. I owned a 73 "hardtop" and a 72 convertible. The "sportsroof" was the fastback option in base or standard in Mach ! trims. The "hardtop" was in base and Grande trims; yours appears to be a base trim. You can obtain a copy of the original window sticker. The seats didn't recline. OEM style parts to get it closer to stock are readily available if desired. The custom interior and seat trim is a unique take on a Mach 1 look but incorrect seats, door panels, carpet, and dash pad for a base model; easy to obtain a correct interior from a Mustang parts supplier if you want OEM look. But, enjoy the car with the custom touches; it is a real looker!!! This era Mustang deserves more respect, and you are the guy to show folks how much fun they can be!!!
I think you got another great deal Randy. Nice looking Mustang and even better when you swapped out the seats for the red and black ones. Sounds pretty sweet as well but a dual exhaust would sound great! Those Windsor V8's are great motors as well. With the right stuff you can put out some serious power. I actually do like these years of Mustang and see them restored quite a lot. Enjoying these new cars you are bringing to the channel Randy. Keep it up and can't wait for more!👍👍
what a beaitful machine, honestly no matter the condition id love to just see one of these in my life time, we dont get cool cars like that down here in brazil
You can try a smaller diameter steering wheel, (or a wheel with a flat bottom) maybe even a red and black leather wheel. The front bumper and rear gravel valance pan appear to be separating from their perspective fenders. If it has a posi rear, the clutches in the rear may require replacement (You didn't have equal response side to side in the gravel test) It looks like a well kept supposedly low mileage car, without close inspection. several oil leaks under the hood and an older looking water pump will provide lots of content. Good luck with it!
Dawned on me on how big that body style is . 71-73 Mach 1 / fastback has always been my favorite mustangs ever since I seen the original gone in 60 seconds I was 6 yrs old 😂 . Never seen one up close in person. She's a looker hope to see more of her .
Oh randy randy randy. You've taught me the importance of body gaps and I absolutely cannot get past the hideous gap on the hood and not to mention the bumper looks misaligned or off on the front right passenger. Those GAPS 😕
Love my 72 , aftermarket seats can be real tricky with the floor pan. the coupes have way better visibility out the back than my fastback.Looks awesome congrats so glad to see this generation finally getting some love
68 was the last really good year. 69 and 70 were still cool. They were bigger and heavier but still had good power when optioned with the right engine. Early 70’s we’re meh. They aren’t bad but they weren’t great. Still way way better than the mid 70’s for sure.
So whoever had bought it paid a premium price ( but maybe not, the advertised price isn’t always the price out the door) then butchered it up with the seats and alarm system. When it wouldn’t start they dumped it for a quick buck. 🤷🏻♂️ If they put the old seats back, got rid of the alarm, fixed the starter, detailed out the engine compartment. Then they could have put it at a collector car auction and got decent money out of it.
I have a 1971 Coupe that has a 302. Yours has a 351C not the 351W. I love the 1971 to 73 Mustang. The 1971 was last year for the high compression. Due to emissions 1972 Compression went down and so did power. I also have 2 1072 fast back mustangs.
@autoauctionrebuilds That body style is almost my least favorite bodystyle (Mustang II is my least favorite) but you have changed my mind on this car. It is growing on me for sure. Looks like you got a great deal at $13k.
I know you had your reservations on the 73 but I thought she looked a nice car from the beginning when the 73 come's out of the auto spa and you re-thread the bellhousing you should get all your money and hopefully more when you sale her on, if I won the lottery I would bid you on the car and ship it to the UK then have fun with it thanks for another great video Randy.
Randy, I love the 73! It doesnt need much maybe just a better exhaust because those tailpipes are hideous! now all you need is a OLDS 442 OR A 78 TRANS AM
Not a bad ride there Randy. Looking forward to the next one ya got coming. My dad has a 90 GT convertible. I need to get another fox mustang one of these days.
Randy not a bad car .will look great after clean up.nice cruiser.may be get flaming river tilt colum Would fix the steering wheel adjustment.good luck all will be good.keep up great videos.happy thanksgiving to you and your family 😊
I like it. You can helacoil that starter hole, might be a through hole, longer bolt and nut. Seats need to be changed back, carb rebuild, nice car again.
Randy when you pulled it in the shop it looks so beautiful please we need videos of you bringing this car up to todays standards will make great content go Randy your fleet is nice but that 73 is better looking than all of them
Decent looking mustang and a good deal at $13K. No big deal on the starter bolts as worst comes to worst get longer bolts and put nuts on them. Those year mustangs have a following. A fastback would be nice but it is really difficult to see out of the back window of the fastback.
It does look decent. It’s definitely not a $27,000 car. If you fix the stuff wrong with it, it’s worth about what you paid. But if it puts a smile on your face it’s alright. Don’t let others’ opinions tell you different.
The 74 Mustang was the awful year those were the worst rubber bumpers in the front rubber in the back ugly body style I know I had one why I don't know love your show so you have the last of the nice Mustang Randy Before they went to shit in the next 3 or 4 years
Just change the seats an steering column out an u be good. Also the market on those mustang are going up because the fox body is really moving up. U got two of favorite cars. The grand national an a fox body
Just a heads up. That is a 351 Cleveland. You can easily differentiate the Windsor vs Cleveland by the mechanical fuel pump. Also, I just pulled a 72 Mustang Grande from a barn. Shes up and running after a few days but is definitely rough compared to yours 😅
G'day Randy, if you want a shock, the price of a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Hardtop, is $65,000 US to $100,000 US. This was the Australian version of your Mustang.
Those are nice seats, but not correct for the car. The factory seats would have a lower seat cushion height. You could get a smaller diameter wheel or add a tilt column of course. The seats are great so I would try and work around them.
This Mustang style was sexy they have their own nestalga like the 77 Cobra to a mustang owner and collector you have a piece of running horse history can't find a cooler car and they are beautiful please keep that 73Mustang The 70s was a pivot point in muscle car history fix it up and keep it value will go up on these cars for sure Randy keep it please my guy that ones not for sale😢
you should get rid of that alarm becuase after a few months its going to likely have problems becuase our jeep patriot came with one and when we closed the door it would go off. We had to remove it.
Had a 73 Mach1 with the fast back and 351 Windsor engine. Loved it. Hated to let it go. Wife said she only married me because of the Mustang. The horn was on the steering wheel inside rim.
Can confirm, it’s every bit as beautiful in person 👍👍👍👍

My first car i bought was that exact car but was a 3 speed manual. Wish I still had. Brought back some great memories .
I would just walk around with the magnet to check the panels for bondo, they were pretty prone to rust
I like it. You can helacoil that starter hole, might be a through hole, longer bolt and nut. Seats need to be changed back, carb rebuild, nice car again.
You might have a good Power Tour car convoy going. Sorry to hear about the dealer auctions issues.
Love the turn around on your view of the stang.👍
Randy when you pulled it in the shop it looks so beautiful please we need videos of you bringing this car up to todays standards will make great content go Randy your fleet is nice but that 73 is better looking than all of them
Love them.
I think they all had 95hp.
Not the fastest, but a classic design.
All the cars Randy has been buying are 🔥🤘🏽😀
The 351 Windsor is a God Moter.
I love the blue Cavalier too, just something about that body style, very nostalgic 🤘🏽🔥💙
I love it Randy! My first car was a 1969 Mach 1 351 fastback. Wish I still had it.
Man I'd love to have that car too!!!
very good looking car Randy and yes take does seats out and put a nice mufflers make it sound nice love all the old school cars you get take care
The engine looks like a 351 Cleveland. The way to tell is if the upper radiator hose goes into the block instead of the intake manifold
Then it is a Cleveland. That's great news! Cleveland's are a tad rare!
Randy, this body style Mustang isn’t my favorite, but at least on camera it is a good looking ride
Good morning Randy happy Saturday
Good morning!
Decent looking mustang and a good deal at $13K. No big deal on the starter bolts as worst comes to worst get longer bolts and put nuts on them. Those year mustangs have a following. A fastback would be nice but it is really difficult to see out of the back window of the fastback.
The high beam switch is on the floor on the left hand side a small push button
I know where it's supposed to be but it wasn't there lol. Thanks though.
I really enjoyed the video. Thanks, Randy, enjoy your day,
The Stang looks good Randy,....tub it up and there should be a gem hiding there.
That I s a true dream car, similar even to a Bond car in Diamonds are forever…..that vehicle has so much character, really congrats…….🎉
It does look decent. It’s definitely not a $27,000 car. If you fix the stuff wrong with it, it’s worth about what you paid. But if it puts a smile on your face it’s alright. Don’t let others’ opinions tell you different.
Change out the exhaust to duals atleast. I'd say make it a cool off road Mustang with tires and suspension. Gotta try Randy.
Get you a set of adjustable seat rails and put the black seats out of the 73 and put them in the LX.
Summit should have them.
I love the 73 Mustang. It is beautiful. Love the red seats.
You got a great deal on the mustang. Good looking car. Enjoy.
The 74 Mustang was the awful year those were the worst rubber bumpers in the front rubber in the back ugly body style I know I had one why I don't know love your show so you have the last of the nice Mustang Randy Before they went to shit in the next 3 or 4 years
That 73 Mustang is valuable. The prices of those are rising like crazy.
Lock the doors and hold the orange button should remote start, hold aux button for trunk
That’s an amazing Stang!! Love that body style.
Another great car and video! Starting watching your videos since you got that Porsche 996, because I own one. Great stuff.
Remove the front tag frame and good set of dual exhaust the outside is pretty much done.👍
That caviler is so cool I think it is my favorite of the fleet
Just change the seats an steering column out an u be good. Also the market on those mustang are going up because the fox body is really moving up. U got two of favorite cars. The grand national an a fox body
Just a heads up. That is a 351 Cleveland. You can easily differentiate the Windsor vs Cleveland by the mechanical fuel pump. Also, I just pulled a 72 Mustang Grande from a barn. Shes up and running after a few days but is definitely rough compared to yours 😅
I kinda think some side pipes would look good on it!
If its just the starter and the seats its a killer deal and damn nice daily driver
Now you have seats for the fox body!
Yeah she looks okay with with your walk around.
you should get rid of that alarm becuase after a few months its going to likely have problems becuase our jeep patriot came with one and when we closed the door it would go off. We had to remove it.
Those panels that connect the B pillar/the sail panels to the top of the fenders are seemingly referred to as flying buttresses.
Call me crazy but the 71-73 mustangs are my favorite body style. The Mach I's are more desirable, but I'd take a clean notch back like yours any day.
Had a 73 Mach1 with the fast back and 351 Windsor engine. Loved it. Hated to let it go. Wife said she only married me because of the Mustang. The horn was on the steering wheel inside rim.
Great car. Please start with the exhaust. Get rid of the silly exhaust tip and go with duel exhaust.
Thanks for the video, Randy.
You did good on the 73 I love that body style
