Some nice filming of freight from my neck of the woods Les, the dalesrail should be starting soon, been 150's on test for five or more weeks from Blackburn to Ribblehead, cheers Steve .

It's been so long since I last visited Settle, that I can't hazard a guess as to which decade it was. That dip at 1:19 is the change from a downgrade of 1:200 to 1:100. So that's what the 'Logs' and the other freights look like at speed instead of trundling through Carlisle. Those 158s have nealy 13 miles of almost continuous 1:100 ahead of them starting just N of the station. That's when they arrive at the S portal of Blea Moor tunnel. All these details are from 'British Rail Mainline Gradient Profiles' published back in 1966. A well-thumbed book I own.

That was good Les. I've never stopped off anywhere along that line, always through from Carlisle to Leeds. There seemed to be quite a few people using the station, what is at Settle?

Settle is an old market town at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and therefore a magnet for holidaymakers. Cafes, Pubs, weekly market etc. Its also a marketing draw for the Settle & Carlisle line with perhaps 6 or more tour groups per week taking the train from Settle to Carlisle. Ribblehead though is the big draw for walkers and photographers of trains on the line crossing the viaduct.
