dark side kowloon refers to kowloon walled city which used to be a small military fort in hong kong that ended up housing about 50,000 people until it got torn down in 1994. due to politics neither china or britain governed it, so essentially the people that lived there ruled themselves. all the buildings were built by the people, but since it was a small space they ended up building upwards. things ended up getting so crowded that you couldnt see the sky unless you were on the roofs, which is how it got the nickname dark side.
