Greetings to all from Russia! I adored the Danish national team of the mid-80s. They always played in attack, and they played themselves and let others play, so their matches contained a lot of scoring chances on both sides and it was impossible to take your eyes off the game. For me, they were the epitome of the spirit of Dutch national team football in the days of Johan Cruyff.
Greetings back from Denmark! I went with my dad in September 1985 to Moscow to watch the World Cup qualification game at the (then called) Lenin Stadium.
Amazing team the Danes in 1986. The way they played with the attacking full backs. Surprisng that they got knocked out of the first round in the euros 2 years later.
Well, in 1988 the team was just old. The bigger time was in 1984. Than against Spain Rasmussmen had a bad day... And last but not least: in the group were Germany, Spain and Italy... not - with all respect - Uruguay or Scotland.
@@markpichler9070 The Euros in the days with only 8 teams produced some killer groups. A far cry from the current format. Although TBF I suppose the continental championship probably should be inclusive and easier to qualify for than the WC like it was it in all other confederations.
And by real footballers. Skillful and guileful...playing the game the right way. Was this the last great tournament in which this type of football was played? A bit of sexiness trickled into '90 and '94 for sure, but Mexico '86 was the pinnacle of the beautiful game for me.

Teams that beat Germany in the group stage are cursed: Hungary 1954: after an 8-3 drubbing in round 1 in which their best player was injured, Hungary blew a 2-0 lead in the final to give Germany their first title, and unwittingly began the curse East Germany 1974 - finished 3rd in the 2nd group stage. West Germany went on to win the final. Algeria 1982 - Was absolutely robbed of their rightful place in the next round by the Anschluss game. Germany advanced to the semi finals. Mexico 2018 - went out in the round of 16 for the 7th consecutive time (at least in this case the Germans suffered too, as they were also eliminated). Billis Lopez not exactly the same, but Hungary played a friendly vs west Germany right before the ‘54 World Cup and beat them 8-3, embarrassing them. Only to lose 2-3 in the final. Best team to not win a World Cup.
The Danes grew confident and a bit arrogant, very rare for a Danish side. I also think that pass from J.Olsen against Spain impacted the Danes on a different level than expected.

Maybe the Danish manager should have taken Frank Arnesen off as he was already on a yellow card from earlier in the match. Elkjaer and Laudrup got most of the headlines, but Arnesen was Denmark's best player in Mexico!

Was there an offside goal in this game for Denmark? I know that Beckenbauer got enraged about an Australian linesman saying that he doesn't know why they put people in charge from countries that don't know anything about football. Nowadays the World Cup is constantly put in countries where the people don't know anything about the sport and we even need to change the rules to cater to them. And endless help by FIFA to get them as far as possible bc those are big markets.
5:10 might be the scene Beckenbauer was referring to. But I don't see any offside here. We can't tell at the moment the pass is played, but he doesn't seem to have been offside based on the positioning. But that angle is very misleading. @5:27 He is infinitely far ahead of the defense though. So based on the positioning here it could have been offside. The German defender seemed to have been a lot closer to the Danish winger in the initial angle.

a game we scould have lost cause we would have got an more easy oponment instead of spain if we had lost to Germany
Dinamaquina!
3:15 penalasooooo de alemanía a dinamarca
GERMANY LOST BUT STILL MADE IT TO THE FINAL.
Germans did not exert much effort. The winner played against Spain, the loser against Morocco
🇩🇰Denmark is unlucky in front of raging bulls only
Dinamáquina.
Remember!
Uuuu
No black players. It is terrific
Yeah those were the days, white women staying at home to raise strong kids , tchernobyl nuclear fumes all over europe, but communist world locked up so no Russian mafia laundering money in premier league, no albanian human trafficking network, no polish,Bulgarian, romanian low cost manpower putting western European workers out of business..terrific isn't it ?
