Congratulations to all of you who have recently heard back and gained acceptance(s) from your respective Graduate or PhD programs! This is a massive accomplishment and after submitting your application and agonizing over the decision, I hope that you take the time to reflect on this chapter in your academic journey! Of course, with acceptances come even more decisions, namely which program you will select. In today's video I tried to cover the various topics worth considering when selecting a program and choosing to embark on your PhD. I covered PhD stipends, health insurance, living expenses, etc. and hope that it is helpful!

I can't thank you enough for the incredible content that you put out here each week, Kaelyn! I got into one of my top choices yesterday (PhD in Anthropology at the University of Michigan), and given the challenging admissions season this year with COVID, funding constraints, and tiny cohorts, I'm so grateful to have gotten in at all as an international student, straight out of undergrad! New subscriber here! I found your channel through Katherine Weiss on TH-cam. I'll be starting my PhD in English (19th-century American lit) this August, and I'm extremely excited! I received my very first admissions decision and acceptance a few weeks ago from Ohio State. I'm still waiting on about seven other schools. I think I'm just happy that one school has accepted me. With imposter syndrome and all, I was seriously thinking no schools would. That's stupid thinking now that I look back on it, but yeah. Hah. Anyway, I need to definitely binge-watch all your videos now. You're freaking AWESOME! 😄🙌

How important is the university's reputation for an MA? Is a 100+ national rank good enough?
Are all students accepted to a department offered the same stipend, assuming we aren't talking about additional fellowships or anything?
Generally, yes but it also depends on the field and whether the stipend is from the graduate school or from a fellowship/grant provided by the advisor/lab

Yes, especially for the one year programs. One important thing to keep in mind is to apply early and exhaust all scholarship options early in the cycle!

I am currently accepted at a few UK universities (conditional, because I’m still getting my undergraduate degree and I’m an international student) but this has been a decision I’m struggling with for a while. I love the opportunity and I’m incredibly excited for it but I’m also paralyzed with anxiety that I might make the wrong decision. I really appreciate this video!

Can a university award a someone a direct phd program into their first year? Im 28, just wondering.
Did you talk about your academic consulting business in your application? Do you recommend we add self-employment/side hustles as work experience if its not exactly related to academia/our field of study?
At the time I had only just started my TH-cam and Accepted had not yet been formed but I included every position and experience I had both professional and academic in my application

3 weeks if I remember correctly - though it may be longer this cycle

I applied to 9 history PhD programs. I have only heard from one and I was rejected. I heard it’s still early.

I applied 4 universities and recieved two acceptances.

Every programs decision deadline is different

I am waiting a decision from Columbia. I tried to contact program coordinator but she didn't responded.

I worked in FDA regulatory consulting and I studied history in undergrad
