Hi guys, i have two questions. 1) I have a langstroth beehive (vertical) it has three floors. I have a queen grid but i don't want to use it inside maybe the grid should be disturb the bees. Which floor or floors put the eggs by queen and which floor use as honey storage? 2) I don't want to give to the bees sugar, i want bees eat their own honey; i wonder that is it possible. The weather is -10 in winter here. Maybe the honey get freeze and they can't eat. Can the bees feed their own cristalize honey in cold wheters. Is it necesseary to give them sugar with water. Thanks for the answers.

Hello, love the video and great information. I do have a question from lack of knowledge though,. Do you add the new queen right when you remove the old queen like in the video or is it better to remove the queen and wait a day to add the new queen?
    Keep up the great work.
    Thanks

I always remove the old queen and wait 24 hours minimum before introducing the new queen.

Remove old queen and wait at least 24 hours before introducing the new one for best results.

I suspect that was our mistake - we had a very weak hive and problem queen - gave her a honorific closure to her brief career (4 months) and replaced her with a new queen within a couple of hours. The Hive went nuts! Really tried to kill her roiling and boiling! Now 24 hours later, they seem to have calmed down but we will likely wait one more day to give them time to accept her.

This is the first time I've ever heard/seen anyone removing the attendants from the queen cage. I just did a successful replacement without doing so. Have you done experiements to really understand the benefits/drawbacks to getting rid of the attendants

Jacob, by removing the attendants you increase your chances of a successful acceptance of the queen. The more foreign pheromones and odor you put into the hive increases the chances of not being accepted!

That's bullshit the colony doesn't requeen every year a queen can last year's

Myths and legends: at 0:26 you said that in nature the colony re-queens every year. Not true, there are hives in nature that are 10 year old and older.
The swarming hive goes with the old queen and they find a tree hollow and does it over and over. Queen bees life span is 5 years.
There is a beekeeper in south central Canada, Ian Stepler, that has colonies with laying queens that are 4 yeas old. ( th-cam.com/video/xwqh1DNCmbA/w-d-xo.html at 6:36 )
