We were very lucky with the weather, but prepared for the worst! We didn’t carry on to Fimmvorduhals due to a lot of rain though, but it was still a perfect hike with so many great memories!
What a great story. My work colleague and I recently completed the Laugavegur with our 16/17 year old kids. They have hiked, camped and skied with us since 4 years old. They are now fully invested in the great outdoors, our mission completed. This film is about just that, brilliantly shot and edited. Happy days to you, this is what being a father is all about.
I always love a great success story! Hope they loved the Laugavegur. My son loved a good hiking trip. Working on my daughter now, but she’s only 1.5, and she’s got a few good trips under her belt. I hope you have many more amazing hiking trips with the kids!
I`m traveling in Iceland since 34 Years and hiking the Highands since more then 22 years more or less exclusively. Traversed the whole Island several times in every direction for hundred of miles each trip and even under Winter Conds. And also made the Laugavegur several times, but mostly out of Seasons, when there is no havy traffic no more. Your Vid is one of THE BEST most atmospharic I have ever seen. The music was perfect....not to loud, so there is no disturbing of the original tone of nature and you speaking. Very well done " BIG THUMBS UP"
I really appreciate that! I can’t wait to head back when my son is older and my daughter is old enough to do the trek herself too. Iceland is a magical place that I think I’ll return to many times as well.
What an absolutely beautiful trip. Thank you so much for sharing. What a total trooper your son is, and such an incredible memory you've given him. Trip of a lifetime.
Truly inspiration to see you make memories with your young son. We are planning a trip in 6 months, and of all the videos we have watched, this one has been the best! You captured it all so beautifully… 🥰
Thanks! Now when I go for hikes my son asks how far.. if it’s not more that 55km he laughs and says he’s hiked further 😂 He wants to hike farther on our next big adventure, we’re thinking the O-Circuit in Patagonia! 6 months will be here before you know it. I hope you have an amazing adventure! The views are unbelievable
What a terrific film - it really is one of the best I've seen about the trail. You've managed to blend everything together and was great to see it all. I'm hoping to do the trail next year with my Durston tent too. I have been concerned about the tent staying up if the ground is sandy or hard rocky stuff. Did you find it ok? Assume big stones helped.
You’re gonna love it! We intended to hike Fimmvorduhals as well, but the 2 days following when we arrived at þorsmörk was torrential downpour.. We did camp out 2 nights at skogafoss in our campervan and hiked 10km in that end of Fimmvorduhals though. No end to the waterfalls up that trail! Going solo (depending on fitness and speed) I’d personally break it into 3 days. Landmannalauger >> Hvanngil >> þorsmörk >> Skogar. I’m sure you’ve got all your planning set, but if you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
Really impressive video! Thank you for sharing!! I will do the laugavegur and Fimmvorduhals in the end of august. Did you solely use your mobile camera and an insta360 x3(?)? Or do you use one more camera? Did you use a powerbank? I will go with 27000mAh and don't know if thats enough
Thank you! I only brought a 20,000 powerbank and it was perfect. I filmed on my iPhone, insta 360 and DJI mini 2. My drone has 3 batteries and so does the insta 360, so I didn’t require to recharge any of those. I hope you have a fantastic and memorable hike!
You can hike the trail from mid June to mid September. In June you can expect full sun and until the end of July will have extended sunlight. July and August would be the most popular times to hike the trail, so it will likely be very busy on the trails. From beginning of July to mid August you will have the greatest chance for warm and dry weather although it could be windy and snowy any time of the year really. My best suggestion would be to research the trail and what conditions and times make the most sense for you. There are a lot of write ups on this online 😊 If you can’t find an answer there, feel free to reach out and I can try my best to help!
@@stronghiking7558I did bring a 10k power bank, but did not use it to recharge the drone batteries. I have found that the 3 DJI batteries are more than enough. Everytime I put it up it’s less than 10min and takes about 1/3 of the battery depending on temps and wind. So I could send the drone up for about 9 flights. For reference I only sent the drone up 6 times for this whole video and was still left with a full battery by the end of the hike. I was saving that for if the weather was good enough so we could continue on the Fimmvorduhals trail.
Not currently! But I do plan to put one together before I head out to hike the Great Divide Trail this July. Probably put it up April or May with a full look into everything I’ll be using.
Wow - what memories, great job Dad ❤
The best memories. Thank you!
Good job dad... your son will remember for ever ! 😉
Thank you.
I’m very lucky to have such a great hiking partner to join me on adventures like this!
Beautiful video. Such a great father son experience. You sure had great weather!

What an absolutely beautiful trip. Thank you so much for sharing. What a total trooper your son is, and such an incredible memory you've given him. Trip of a lifetime.
It was such an amazing trip. My son talks about this trip often and we can’t wait to go on our next big adventure!
Thanks for the kind words 😊
Amazing!!
Thanks!
What an unforgettable experience for you and your son to have together. Kudos for capturing all the footage and putting together an amazing edit too.
Oh man, he still talks about this trip everyday!
Trying to decide what’s next on the list for us 🤔
Thank you for sharing this beautiful hike in Iceland with your son. The scenery was so beautiful and your journey successful. Congratulations!
Thank you. So happy you enjoyed it!
Watching this as I wait for boarding as I start my hike here tomorrow. This is an amazing video and can't wait to get started
You’re going to absolutely love the hike! I hope it is everything you are hoping and more 😊

Such an amazing experience to share with my little guy!
Absolutely gorgeous opening, this was such a atmospheric and simply EPIC upload! Outstanding cinematography my friend!

Patagonia will be a huge thrill! Can’t wait to see your trip after you return. Have a great time!
My daughter and I were a day behind you if you went in 2023 . Awesome shots and memories.
Yes, we went in 2023. The weather was amazing the whole hike! I hope you both enjoyed your adventure as much as we did

I found it to be fine and I could always find a spot to put the pegs into the ground
Thank you for sharing. I’m heading there this summer to solo hike the laugavegur and Fimmvorauhals trail. I’m also from the maritimes.

Man I wish I was allowed to leave the country
Anything is possible if you try hard enough!
When is the best time to hike the trail - we have to fly from Oz via London ?

Great vid guys. How many batteries did you have for your mini drone? Did you walk in August?
Thanks!
We hiked the trail August 22-25 and I just had the 3 drone batteries that come in the case. I’ve become a master at rationing them 😂
Did you carry a power bank to charge them?

What time of year did you do the trail?😍
I believe we started the trail on August 22nd last year. Couldn’t have asked for better weather!
When did you do the hike?
Late August 2023
Don’t have videos about your equipment you’re using? Love your videos though.
Not currently! But I do plan to put one together before I head out to hike the Great Divide Trail this July.

What a horror, it has become a highway for tourists...
Certainly a busy place, but people will flock to see one of the most beautiful trails in the world!
