Great minds buddy. You actually said the term for that in a roundabout way. When I was in Deadhorse Alaska at Prudhoe Bay, during winter solstice, the sun never came up while I was there for one week. But with a sky full of stars and moon, and the northern lights going crazy, what unfolds is a snowy, barren, windblown landscape of stark beauty.
Dixie, I've been following you since the AT and IMO this is one of the best videos you've ever produced. Absolutely amazing. I applaud you 👏 stay safe and wild kiddo!! Blessings 🙌
That first night made a compelling case for a double walled tent! Might be part of the reason I never see single walls in the Canadian Rockies. That weather feels a little too familiar ☺️
@@layne4376 In one of her other videos she said this tent was not the best choice for this trip but still looks like a very cool and unique place to go hike and visit. Looks like at 8:10 there are a lot of 4 season dome mountaineering tents but definately anything designed for higher winds would be ideal.
From the shaky camera around Springer all the way to this. I've enjoyed every minute you have shared with us. Your video work is absolutely incredible. For entirety of your work, I thank you. It's all been wonderful. One of my favorite parts is when you talk to critters. ;)
Whoa - Dixie! That little blue tent of yours looked like a hanky blowing in the wind. To say that those views were magnificent is a vast understatement. Enjoy your trip and thanks so much for sharing.
Great video, again. The old saying, "it's a small world", is true. I'm 64 and have crossed paths with acquaintances from decades ago. And, in the most unlikely of places. Of course we couldn't remember each other's names, and it always starts with fleeting glances from the corners of the eye. Thinking, man he looks familiar...it can't be..."Ahem, uh, you didn't happen to have done some logging in Alaska back in the 70s, Ice Bay? Logging camp?" Yup it was him! It's a very emotional reunion, actually. No, we didn't cry, you cried.

That's so cool how u met those hikers who you met years ago somewhere else in the world. That was a really interesting thought of how the same people can interact multiple times and not even know, and it reminded me of how I think when I'm backpacking. Some of the most profound realizations have come to me while out in the Backcountry either hiking or staring into the fire or waiting to go to sleep. That's my favorite part, when I have so much time alone to just think, I end up getting to know myself at a deeper level. I really enjoy your videos Dixie, you have done so much for the hiking community by posting videos we can all enjoy and learn from! So thank you! Btw that electric guitar medley was a nice touch 👌
I randomly met a guy in Prague that I hung out with for some days a few weeks before. I initially met him in Florence, Italy. I gave it a lot of thought but I concluded that the odds werent that small. We were both into visiting cultural cities and as tourists we were a lot more likely to visit public spaces like city squares and downtown areas. This is basically the same. Hard core trailers are bound to do this tour some time in their lives, and you can also scratch the winter season off the list which narrows it down. It's still not likely but more likely than you would think.
It's more a proof of the fact that mass tourism take all the people to the same places, exploiting the same areas and polluting around with intercontinental flights. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Kind of unrelated, but while I was leading a boys camp trip on the Maine section of the AT, I ran into a hiker named Baked Potato. Man, that guy was such a gem. He was just hanging out by the end of the hundred mile wilderness with no backpack or anything, and we got to hang out with him for about two days. He captivated the minds of my campers with amazing stories and an impressive knowledge of Pink Floy. Low and behold, I'm watching one of dixie's recent videos ("Backpacking lessons not learned on the internet") and the entire prompt for the video was a text thread between dixie and Baked Potato! It is crazy how you can run into people in the most random corners of the world....I mean, to me just the fact that we were in Iceland at the same time was crazy! I mean, what are the odds?!! I know I never ran into you, I was mostly in the south and the westfjords, but still, so cool how these things happen. We also ran into my mom's dentist in Iceland, I mean...talk about random I'm glad you go to see the volcano, I went the day before they closed it, such a treacherous trail, all those rocks, but sooo worth it. The good thing for other hikers is that during those days that the trail was closed they started fixing it and it wasn't nearly as bad as when my sister and I went
Wow, just watched last 2 updates from Iceland and now know I need to go up there sometime. I’m from Denmark so it is a little bit closer for me. Thank you for making the effort and sharing. Love your volcano show.
I think I would have just pulled the tent down and rolled up like a blue burrito to sleep! For Iceland, I think you need the 4 season Hilleberg Nammatj 2 or the GT model for the weather and wind to keep you safe. What a fearsome racket in the wind!...you could write a song! I saw a video about a guy camping in Scotland who went out to rearrange the stars and whish! Gone with the wind! His tent blew up with wind, ripped out all the stakes and with all his gear and his Garmin in it, rolled right down the steep mountainside in the dark and snowing night! He was in a pickle!! Don't tie your Garmin to the tent!
Dixie, I have been so looking forward to these videos since I heard you say you were in Island, I lived there for two years ago, 40 years ago. Great video and stunning scenery! This looks like the standard weather we get in the north of England all year round! 🤣 That's why we go for more robust tents that weigh quite a bit more than the ones you guys have in the states... If you ever visit England, go spend a few days in the Lake District. 👍

Jessica/Dixie, once again your videography blows me away, but what really caught my eye this time was the editing! Great stuff in a truly unusual and beautiful landscape. Thanks! I now know 100% more about Iceland than I did before!
I had that happen to me this year. . . . in 2019 I hiked with a couple on the PCT northbound for 5 days in Northern California and then this year I was doing a little 300 mile practice hike and was sitting at a picnic table on the PCT just south of Big Bear and that same couple walk up and sat at the table and it took us a few seconds to remember where we met. What a fond memory. They were both university geology professors and I love geology.
Awesome video! I love the cut from hiking POV to drone flying off the trail at the start--felt like I took flight right along with the video. Beautiful scenery!
Hi Dixie; watching this brought back a lot of memories for me. I was stationed in Iceland for 2-1/2 years and got to know the island fairly well. Some unforgettable places to visit. Hope you enjoyed your time there.
I love those serendipitous moments! In the early 80s I was a Wisconsin Punk from Madison. I’d gone off on tour as a roadie for a punk band…we were on Big Sur at 7am and decided to drive down to a remote beach, where we ran into a group of Madison punks chilling on the beach. Totally random, half a continent away, no clue they were out there at that random beach.

Wow so amazing definitely a different kind of scenery on that trail. Dixie I have to tell you the first thing I do when I watch one of your videos is look for that hidden logo this one was good in the clouds. Take care out there.
If I'm ever going to iceland, or when I'm on a longer or more distant trip in the nordic mountainrange, I would never take anything else but a Hilleberg. These are the condintions they are made for. Heavy, yes, but sturdy.
Hi! It is such a pleasure to see you on my home turf here in Icalend. I have done this hike many times and it is always different and it depends on the weather. You were not very lucky with the weather like the rest of us Icelanders during the entire summer(well we say "Thats life!".
Thank you for documenting your wander in the land of Fire and Ice. I always enjoy your style of presentation that is centered on the beauty of Nature and that is a beautiful and yet hostile environment. Reminds me of my mountaineering days. We took more robust gear than you through hikers for a reason: the spectacular beauty comes at a price from Mother Nature but decades ago when we had far less the communication and safety net than there is today. Mother Nature reserves some of her best for those are willing to pay the toll she exacts. But She is fickle and we need to be prepared for her fury to be unleashed without notice and without any reason we can discern or predict.

Awesome video! I love the cut from hiking POV to drone flying off the trail at the start--felt like I took flight right along with the video. Beautiful scenery!
Bucket list hike! Excited to watch with y’all!
I have never hiked in a place like that. Just stunning. Thanks.
Great video, as always. Love that you randomly met up with trail friends.
Yesss, this is my morning coffee entertainment. I am excited
Epic. That tiny wee tent (David) against an Icelandic wind (Goliath). Great videography.
"Since I'm a sucker for waterfalls . . ." More like since you're a hiking badass! Not hiking more is never really in the plan! Thanks for another great vid!
Wow!! Very different and special. No hammock camping there, eh? Love the music choices and placement. Thanks for listing, though I knew most having played in an orchestra for over 20 yrs, lol. Hope you have better weather for the rest of the trip!
its magical that you ran into them again in a totally different place!!! WILD!!!!!!!!!! love from Oregon
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing it
glad you got to see the couple from the P.C.T. so cool to be able to do that. and so glad you get to see the volcano. would love to be able to see it also. this is one cool trail. stunning views. stay safe.
Epic videography. Your videos are absolutely a work of art. Amazing!!!!
Wow so amazing definitely a different kind of scenery on that trail. Dixie I have to tell you the first thing I do when I watch one of your videos is look for that hidden logo this one was good in the clouds. Take care out there.
One of your best videos, and trail and wind 💨! 😆 beautiful!!
Thank you for taking us along! Your best production yet! I have been following your Chanel since the AT. Amazing work!
Wonderful video. I love the very fitting background music. Thanks.
So gorgeous! Thank you for taking us along.
what a great test for your tent.. safe travels... and thank you as always for sharing your adventures with all of us
This video sold me on Iceland. I’m booked for three weeks in July. Thank you for the inspiration.
Wow what a different video!!! The music with the landscape is awesome
Thanks for having us along. Great drone and regular video footage. You really captured the place.
Gooood evening from central Florida! Hope everyone has a great night!
Great video,! My daughter and I hiked it in 2019, stayed in the huts.
Did this trail 3 weeks ago, so your video is a great reminder. Thanks from 🇨🇦
You need to go to Patagonia , Chile … visit Torres Del Paine … as wild as it gets !
I had a hilleberg tent and ditched it long ago for DCF but just sometimes you need a well designed structurally strong multi-pole tent….
If I'm ever going to iceland, or when I'm on a longer or more distant trip in the nordic mountainrange, I would never take anything else but a Hilleberg. These are the condintions they are made for. Heavy, yes, but sturdy.
Standard weather all year round in the UK that 🤣
Simply AMAZING. Thank you!
Hi! It is such a pleasure to see you on my home turf here in Icalend. I have done this hike many times and it is always different and it depends on the weather. You were not very lucky with the weather like the rest of us Icelanders during the entire summer(well we say "Thats life!".
It is a bit sad that she couldn't capture all the colours and structures south of Landmannalaugar.
Great job on the production and editing. Wicked. Best you’ve done.
I got goosebumps at the end 🤩
So excited to see your journey on the trail!!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing! Iceland-Bucket list for sure!
GREAT video. I really loved the choice of music and the editing...
Your videos are so good. Thanks Dixie!!
Most incredible video you’ve made to date! I had a short visit to Iceland a few years back and this brought back so many feels! Can’t wait for the next ones!
This may be your best video yet! Great photography/videography and story-telling! Well done!
The reason I started watching this channel years ago was when I was preparing for the Laugavegur trail. And now you are hiking along that exact same trail! Nice to watch and have the memories come alive again.
Dixie is living and doing the things we all wish we doing. Keep going girl!
You've taken your videos to the next level.
Amazing footage.
Awesome hike! If you're looking for another trail to try, I'd recommend the Kungsleden in Sweden
Holy wow, what an amazing video! From the camera work to the editing you really nailed it, this is something I would expect to see coming from a major network. Thanks for taking us along on this awesome journey, it looks hard enough without all the double backs and time spent shooting. Keep up the awesome work, we'll be re-watching these Iceland videos!
