The last time Balin and Bilbo spoke, it was many years after the events of "The Hobbit." Balin had journeyed far with Gandalf, back to Bag End, just to see Bilbo again. Their last interaction, according to the literature, was one of mirth and joy, smoking Old Toby with Gandalf, inside Bilbo's home. It actually pains me to think of Bilbo's grief when he learned of Balin's untimely and tragic death, and Frodo standing by, doing all he can to comfort his uncle. Had the roles been reversed, and Bilbo been the one chosen to take the Ring to Mordor, I have absolutely no doubt that Balin, who was the ONLY dwarf who even dared to enter Erebor with Bilbo while Smaug was still inside, would've been to Bilbo what Sam was to Frodo. Balin would have followed the hobbit into the deepest, darkest depths of Mordor and would have given anything, even his life, to save his burglar. His friend.
" A king he was on carven throne In many-pillared halls of stone With golden roof and silver floor, And runes of power upon the door. The light of sun and star and moon In shining lamps of crystal hewn Undimmed by cloud or shade of night There shone for ever fair and bright. The world is grey, the mountains old, The forge's fire is ashen-cold; No harp is wrung, no hammer falls: The darkness dwells in Durin's halls; The shadow lies upon his tomb In Moria, in Khazad-dûm. But still the sunken stars appear In dark and windless Mirrormere; There lies his crown in water deep, Till Durin wakes again from sleep. " Rest in peace, son of Durin. Durin's song, by J.R.R Tolkien
The Moria chapters are my favorite part of all LOTR books, which is why my favorite will always be Fellowship of the ring. Khuzdul the dwarven language can also be heard in the music when the fellowship enters Moria and escapes it. Fun fact: Moria was the inspiration to the World of Warcraft vanilla dungeon Black Rock Depths which is the best dungeon made in any mmorpg or game ever.
FreedomFighter08 I will second the statement about black rock depths. Only thing that comes close to holding a candle is black temple from burning crusade and ice crown from wrath
People always talk about how they'd love to visit the shire or gondor if they could go anywhere. For me Moria during its prime is the one fantasy experience I would choose above all others. It seems so unique and compelling, and I'm so bummed we never get to experience it's productive beauty, just its destructive.
‘I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo. ‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.’
I'm re reading lotr and these tracks have made it so much more immersive and entertaining to read! Moira is one of my favorite spots in the books, this soundtrack is just gold!
Moria... You fear to go into those mines. The dwarves delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame. Saruman, Third Age, 3019
Ah yes, another act of vandalism by PJ and his gals. They portray Gandalf as fearful and reluctant to go into Moria unless the ringbearer decides to go there, whereas in fact he strenuously argued for the path through Moria, even both he and Aragorn knew it would be very dangerous for him. A truly appalling revision, just like so many others!
Would you want to go down into Moria if you knew of what precisely was down there and the extreme likelihood you would encounter something that could kill you with extreme ease?
@@theexile6605 In the books, Gandalf was a fearful character. lol He was the only one amongst the Istari order who frightened of Sauron's weakened form to death. He frightens of him too badly. Even Aiwendil(Radagast) is more brave than Gandalf in the Lore

"They have taken the Bridge and the Second Hall. We have barred the gates, but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes... Drums. Drums in the deep. We cannot get out. A Shadow moves in the dark... We cannot get out... They are coming."
I love all your Lord of the Rings - Ambience videos, but this one is my favorite ❤!! I can't count how many hours it has already played in the background in my room. Thank you so much for creating it and sharing!
3:56 I always relate this music fragment to the Dwarves. It is kind of depressing, They want to reclaim their homeland, They put so much effort to do it but the effort is not enough against the forces of Darkness. The Sorrow of Dwarves is the saddest thing in the movie for me.
I have just discovered your beautiful channel. You are a GENIUS. You have managed to collect some of the finest soundtracks that have graced the big screen in a beautiful and simple way. Keep up the brilliant work. Thank you.
So appreciating these videos, it's all I've ever wanted!! I work from home, and like Maria I keep your videos playing up on my 2nd screen all day! Love the song selections, and the animated scenes.
I’m reading the LOTR and each one of your videos from this playlist exactly corresponds to a different chapter. THANK YOU for allowing me to walk through the Mines of Moria !
@@zingrock Not "much" noise, I agree. But during the War of the Ring, at least, Moria is not empty, as the Fellowship discovers on their way through. Just some sort of stirring of rock and echoing would be very cool.
I HAVE JUST ENTERED THE BEAUTIEST WORLD in my life... THANK YOU .. really thank u my friend this is just epic .. mixing those soundtracks from LoTR and the Hobbit .. awesome idea ..
I just found this one. Can we also give a shout-out to Howard Shore for composing music that carried us to these places? This channel helps us stay there a little longer...
I just found this channel about three days ago, and I find it so amazing! The detail of the places that you highlight is incredible. The mines is probably my favorite moment of Fellowship. Thank you for bringing this soundtrack to my reading playlist! Incredible work, thanks for doing this bud.

Reading this to the beginning of the video felt extraordinary; a glimpse into the story's alternate reality.
" A king he was on carven throne
In many-pillared halls of stone
With golden roof and silver floor,
And runes of power upon the door.
The light of sun and star and moon
In shining lamps of crystal hewn
Undimmed by cloud or shade of night

The world is grey, the mountains old,
The forge's fire is ashen-cold;
No harp is wrung, no hammer falls:
The darkness dwells in Durin's halls;
The shadow lies upon his tomb
In Moria, in Khazad-dûm.
But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere;
There lies his crown in water deep,
Till Durin wakes again from sleep. "
Rest in peace, son of Durin.

Melancholy , yet beautifully written. Tolkien was awesome

I read this this in the tune of Eurielle's rendition
"Here lies Balin son of fundin, Lord of Moria. He is dead then.. It's as I feared."

Plot twist: Balin is NOT dead! He has eloped with a female orc!
