- For my final bumpers video, after giving my special touch to the Alphabet Network [ABC]and the Tiffany Network [CBS], it was was time for the Peacock Network to get the Keith Norman treatment. I give you the ultmate collection of the NBC Saturday Morning Bumpers from 1977 to 1991. Like my ABC and CBS collections, I included clips from the NBC fall promos through the years, as I felt they had the best ones out of any network. Also, I know that they were bumpers from the 1991-1992 season with Chip and Pepper, but alas, I could not find them.....
NBC did have the coolest graphics and visual effects for their promo ads.The other two networks didn't seem to put as much enthusiasm and money into their promos.Those were just as cool to watch as the shows were. I enjoyed this video a lot and it brought back memories,especially the segments in the 1970s and the 1980s when I was growing up.

@@DangerousDez it's really hard to tell but I saw one the bumpers says on the rise. You may be right also . I just miss those days, All we have now is the video on TH-cam in poor quality

nbc was one of my favorite saturday morning channels for good old cool saturday morning cartoons in the 80's and 90's it had the smurfs but now this day its not so much

I remember some of these from the late 80s. But by 1990 I was watching CBS Saturday mornings except when the Captain N was on like everyone else.

"At NBC let's all be there!" Its pretty clear that 1984 and 1985 was the highlight and peak of NBC Saturday Morning lineup. Probably their best in the Networks' entire 44 year Saturday morning run 1948-1992. So many interesting programs like Kidd Video,Pink Panther and sons in '84 with Hits like "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and especially the livelyhood of 1985 with Punky Brewster, The Snorks and of course Gummi Bears.
Used for theme for 75th Anniversary of the ABS-CBN Minnesota Television In 2018.
At the beginning of the 1979 NBC Super Globetrotters commercial break & closing credits, there was a bumper from 1979 that says, The Super Globetrotters Will Return After These Messages.

WREYtube has the bumpers for Lazer Tag Academy in commercial break from September's 1986 on Saturday morning.
The only 2 shows that I watched on NBC in '89 were Captain N and ALF. NBC's Saturday morning lineup was already in trouble by then. Also, Smurfs had significantly fallen in ratings by 1988.(The shows ratings had actually begun declining in '85, NBC's poor treatment and promotion of superior programs like The Snorks and Gummi Bears hurt them after moving both of them to syndication.(Snorks in '86, Gummi Bears in '89).
I cannot understand why NBC kept pushing Smurfs even as late as '88.

The company that make the program (Hanna-Barbara) wanted to end the series following the 1985-86 season, but NBC didn't want to end the mega hit yet.
1982-1983 was The Smurfs' peak in popularity. Believe it or not. Alvin in The Chipmunks and CBS' Muppet Babies begin taking the shows' thunder by '84. Both Snorks and Gummi Bears did better in ratings on the network in 1985(despite their 7:30 and 8:00 time slots) then Smurfs. When the forgettable Foofur replaced Snorks(having moved to USA Network) the following season, NBC's gradual decline in Saturday Morning ratings begin. Smurfs shoulda been cancelled in 1988.

Smurfs was OFFICIALLY supposed to end after season 5 (1985-86), NBC pushed Hanna Barbara to produce 4 more seasons instead.
The company wanted to do reruns in the 1989-90 season, but NBC made them retool the series with the time travel format during season 9.
Peppardb uploaded the NBC (Sat. AM) commercial break from 1990 *low audio*. The video is low at the beginning but it gets loud because they show the Chip & Pepper bumpers.

NBC's 1989 Saturday Morning Lineup was hit and miss at best. The Karate Kid and Captain N Season 1 were good everything else was mediocre. Season 9 of The Smurfs was so terrible it ultimately killed it mostly because Gargamel wasn't in that season and they got rid of the Smurf's Village in favor of a stupid time traveling vortex with The Smurfs fighting Gargamel's ancestors traveling in the Stone Age,Egypt and Rome.

By 1990 The Smurfs was Cancelled as NBC competes against CBS as they began airing Season 4 of The 1987 TMNT series and Garfield & Friends reached it's peak in popularity in 1990 with the 3rd season. This was until Fox Kids stole NBC's thunder when they aired Peter Pan and The Pirates,Tom & Jerry Kids and Bobby's World which doomed NBC's 1990 Saturday Morning lineup as both Alvin and The Chipmunks and The Smurfs were cancelled and Captain N aired Season 2 with The Adventures of Super Mario 3.
