I love it and really want to make boxes like this once I assemble and learn my laser machine. Rather than a hook and latch, I’d suggest making the front cover flip over the side and glue one or two rare earth magnets so it stays closed and secured.
Imagine this front and this bottom AND two small magnets that keep ot closed instead of the wood cutout - it would/wood look so much better! But great project and the front is really gorgeous.
What about splitting it in the middle? Open like a wardrobe. Then it could have the hinge on both sides. Not sure how the seem would look though. Though if you stick with the other "book" style, having the logo on the spine would look awesome too.
Classy you sending one to me too.? Kiddin. I'm not 100% sure laser is woodworking may as well fire up the 3-d printer plug it into my tech. Deficiency and see how much longer it takes me to miss you more . Best wishes nick.
easiest way is to use a flat bed scanner, and run it thru, use the trace function to make the outline. this is the process i use for many things such as 5s tool box foam, wine bottles, gun case, etc..
Very helpful! For the test pattern, I prefer to use the grid function to add all of the boxes to the project. It takes a bit longer to set up all of the power & speed settings. But the benefit is that I can quickly run the same test on different materials by simply changing the label element to reflect whatever I'm testing. Plus, I can save the file for later if I get a new material later.
Looks great, like the deeper burn. Got an idea for a way to keep it shut but it would take way more space than the comments section on here will allow.
I know I'm late to the party, but a small, even basswood, insert with steel glued to it along with magnets on the inside would create an invisible latch to the exterior. That woulda been my go.
Try making a box where the right side of the cover overlaps the rights side of the boxframe (wraps all the way around) and mount a "turn latch to go through the flap of the cover and turns 90° to lock it closed. It's hard for me to describe, but i think you get the idea. However I really like the idea and exacution of what you have created. I'm going to use this for christmas gifts this year.
looks awesome makes me want to buy bullet bourbon..... great work I am liking the Muse.... I have a D1 love it also.... maybe two details added a base for the bottom to set in so it doesn't move and for the neckllll but clinkies man...
Very nice. I like the first box better. The dark color of the hinges on both sides outlines the top better as well. Could You cut that right side 3/4 to the top, glue the bottom half and put a hook latch on the side? Great video!
Instead of using packing material to cradle the bottle, why not cut an additional flat-pack type of frame for the bottle with the same material? I think that would be a REALLY sharp presentation!!!
None of that was to say I didn't like the content of your video! I just stumbled upon your channel recently and subscribed. I think your videos are awesome! Keep at it, you will get the additional subscribers you deserve in no time!
Have you done any metal etching using the dry moly method on aluminum? also Have you used the next size down laser like a 5W vs a 10W I'm struggling to find something that doesn't wash off of aluminum once the etching is done.
Awesome project. But…. I think you need some pre-video warnings that forewarn your viewers. BecauseI damn near pissed myself when I saw the “Coffee Slut” shirt right before I left for work and did spit my coffee all over. Wildly inconvenient. Just found your channel yesterday and subscribed within a few videos. Love the content and came across it as I’m looking at a side-gig/creative outlet and contemplating a D1 purchase. Keep up the great work.
Why didn’t u make it open in the center front and then u could have made a closure mucho simpler. So you would have made finger joints on 3 sides of the top and bottom with finger joints on the main panel on the corresponding joints. Decorate the front 2 panels and walla ur done.
I was an industrial engineer in my other life in a large farm equipment manufacture, so I think out of the box most of the time. I’m looking at alternative designs all the time.

Yeah...I think magnets is the way to go!

Great job! First one has a better look but the presentation is definitely better on the second. But who missed who more🤔🤣🤣 Clinkies!
I definitely missed the Bulleit more!

I have Jonny Walker blue in a presentation box that uses a magnetic catch ✅
I'm thinking magnets are the best option.
Good Job! And you painted the thumb! I give you thumbs up!👍
LOL

Very cool result nick! In order to keep that outside look nice and clean, use a magnet on the inside. Clinkies!
I dig it!

Simples. On the first Bix just add an inner side piece. .... Good job Thanks 😊
Really liked this video. Nailed the box, loved the texture, and liked seeing your process. Keep burning
Thanks, Dean!

Bro, that looks so good!!
Thanks, Charles!

Damn, your energy and dad jokes are on point! Great job
You make a tab on the side, add a piece of metal in that tab and on the lid some type of magnet. under where it cannot be seen.
I know I'm late to the party, but a small, even basswood, insert with steel glued to it along with magnets on the inside would create an invisible latch to the exterior. That woulda been my go.
You could use the cigar box latch! Great stuff brother!
Thanks, Rob!

Beautifully done, man!
Thanks, Jess!

Have you done corner brace on lid and box with recessed magnets
Very Nice that’s my favorite Bourbon. what laser are you using?
For this one I used the Muse Core.

@@BuildDadBuild thanks I just have an ortur it’s ok but not at powerful
@@grich7312 Yeah, I use my Ortur for more engraving and artsy stuff. LOL
You forgot to take the tag off after you nicked that shirt dude ;)
Ha!
Awesome work! How did you make the second box?
Hey Jessica!
Same as the first. I just reversed the depth and width measurements.

To keep it closed, any chance to do a tiny magnet inside the lid?
Definitely!

Hey Nick, that 3D effect is totally awesome, how did you design that ? Looks very effective
I just googled 3D designs or 3D backgrounds…

I have not successfully marked unanodized aluminum
Would it be possible to get the size settings you used for that box?
send me an email: nick@builddadbuild.com
Magnets would work good for a latch
Agreed!

Can you engrave on the bottle?
Sure. Well you can mark it.
Awesome project.
