  • How to fix P0720 Code: Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
A P0720 code is set when the computer (ECM/PCM) detects an interruption or slow response from the output shaft sensor (OSS).
Electronically-controlled automatic transmissions use an output shaft sensor (OSS) that can also sometimes act as the vehicle speed sensor in these situations.
The OSS is located at the end of the output shaft and directly before the drive axles to obtain measurements of the shaft’s speed.
Besides determining when to shift, it also torque converter engagement and the electronic pressure control (EPC) inside the transmission system.
Will usually get other codes such as P0722, P0731, P0732, and more since the transmission is not shifting correctly.
Possible Causes of a P0720 Code:
    Low or Dirty Transmission Fluid
    Bad output shaft speed sensor
    Wiring (Open/Short)
    Malfunctioning Computer (TCM/PCM)
By using this information user assumes all risk of use.

Good evening, I have a problem with the transmission, when the speed reaches 70 kilometers, vibration occurs in the car, and it is not acceptable to increase the speed, and when opd1 checks, the code p0720 appears, what is the reason?

My 2014 ford fusion has something similar. I can put it in reverse perfectly fine, park, neutral, but when I put it in drive, there is a delay and when it engages first, it’s really rough. I replaced the sensor, and it’s the same issue, I have the part that plugs onto the sensor, I’m gonna try that

How many miles on Fusion ? They are known to have transmission issues. Even the newer ones.

I just replaced my sensor and my cars doing the same thing and arguably doing it worse, I don’t know what to do with this thing, i think I’m gonna try replacing wires next

@@Gunscarsguitarsandbars How many miles on that transmission? Fusion transmissions are crap. Especially if you don’t service them properly.

@@deanmartin2332 dude, I kid you not, the transmission went out again last week, I had to buy a brand new car because I’m so done with the Ford. I will never own a Ford again lol

@@Gunscarsguitarsandbars Transmissions aren’t bulletproof. If you don’t change the fluid they fail. Name me one automatic transmission you never have to service.

Replaced my speed sensor on my 2001 F250 And erased the code. That didn’t fix the problem. Transmission fluid is fine looks new. Transmission serviced 3 years ago.

Fix the problem yet? What was wrong.

It could be the alternator. It causes an ac ripple and messes with the signal to the speed sensor. Even if the alternator is still working this can happen.

@deanmartin2332 found it in forums online. I had the same problem with my 7.3 and it was the issue.
