This is the website I use the most for booking accommodation while I travel. Huge selection and you can find some great deals on hotels, apartments and hostels: www.booking.com/index.html?aid=1724899
07:30 that's a very common confusion in India. Whenever we had to go outside for lunch or dinner, we used to say let's go to a hotel, hotel is very commonly used in India as for a place to eat. Maybe this started out in the beginning as all the resto owners named their restaurants as hotels, and people ended up calling restaurants as hotels, including me!
Some good tips here, my wife and I just spent the last 6 months in India and we averaged $25 a day between us. Its a great place to travel and are going back for another 4 months after spending this month in Nepal.
We have already visited Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, the Andaman Islands, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Kashmir. Next we plan to go to Sikkim, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab. We are also hoping to come back to visit Kerala next year before moving onto South East Asia.
Sounds awesome. Sikkim and Darjeeling are on my list for the next time. Uttarakhand is definitely one of the best areas of India and not very touristy. Mostly people just go to Rishikesh, which is great, but there's so much more to see in the Himalayas further north. An epic journey is to go from Rishikesh to Almora, or vice versa. So brilliant and you will see very few foreign tourists.
+nakul garg, thanks very much! We love India alot, that's why we decided to travel here for a year. There are some negative sides, but there are in every country. I love making videos about India!!
+Gabriel Traveler, yes we are heading that way in the next week or so and are hoping to do some volunteering in a school in Pelling. We have experienced some places with hardly any tourist, especially off season, but I here the North East, like alot of India, is different to the rest!
Best option for internet access is buying a dongle for your travels If internet is that important get the dongle, dongles range from 700Rs - 1500Rs depending upon plans and data. I used to get a dongle for Rs750 which lasted 3 months 7gb highspeed + unlimited low speed data per month.
Gabriel Traveler I am considering between Kerala India or Cairo Egypt but I have a question regarding india I am a college student and am wondering how I could find a cheap ticket I live in Houston tx so it's nearly impossible, but do they offer discounts to college students just wondering
There isn't a college student discount that I'm aware of. Just search lots of different websites and try different dates. Check skyscanner and use their feature where you can search for a whole month at a time. Flying that far around the world is likely going to cost but sometimes you can find some amazing deals.
Hi Biochemp33, You might want to check out the company STA Travel. They offer travel discounts to college students. Not sure what the requirements are, but it's worth looking into. ;-)
Yes good tip. I think I used them for my first flight to Europe. Not that they will necessarily have the cheapest flights, sometimes it's just a matter of luck finding a great deal based on the date and your departure and destination points.
So darn cool. I have been traveling with my family for the last three years (Including India) and have been documenting it as well, but nothing like you. We do stay at Hostels when traveling about, but we need to get more primitive to let the dollars stretch. Thanks for putting this out. You have inspired us to go simpler in our travels.
Budget can be less if you not use laundry services. also eat local fruits/drink/dishes. expenses should be accommodation 400-500 INR (for couple 200-250 per head). Food 150-200 (local budget breakfast lunch dinner) local transport 50-70 maximum (to cover 2-3 tourist places) Other miscellaneous 100 maximum (such as shopping, internet if not available free, entry charges, mobile etc) Ideal budget should be 700-800 INR (12-14$/day)
Hey Gab if you have internet problem ? please get a Jio 4g sim or Bsnl 3g sim , Jio offers 4g 1gb data for every one day and in night its totally free unlimited 4g data from 2:00 am to 5:00 and its valid upto april its in offer period . Bsnl 3g offers Unlimted 3g data for 30 days without any speed restrictions but if you do recharge of 1099 by converting into usd its about 16 dollor .
Man I gotta add Gokarna and India in general in my travel to do list. That's less than $500 a month! and I LOVE Indian food. Never had a Tali before though
Mr Gabriel, Eating any nuts and sprouts are very much healthier than any kind of food while traveling or trekking. For stay, there are many camping sites in India. Not only camping sites, any body can stay in any village or public parks etc with camping accessories. You're always welcome to India.
Hey! Thanks for your videos! I will go this year for 6 months to India and was wondering how you find and choose cheap accommodations? Greetings and have fun!
Just stay away from Indian states like u.p. Bihar Haryana and don't portray yourself as a weak meek person our you will get scared and get into other possible threats. Stay at costly hotels not the once for 10$ and if possible stay with some Indian friends.... AND YOU won't get toilet paper everywhere. Do some research about the places locality where you are residing and do ask your Indian friends about all this stuff. If don't have a few make a few.
Visit the south more, Andhra pradesh,Kerala, Tamil nadu, all have varying and beautiful places. If your looking for some mountain action, places like Ooty,Kotagiri,Kodaikannal, Valparai, You should consider, Also visit pondicherry which was a french colony once upon a time
I've been to some of those places. I went to Pondicherry later on this same trip. Here's a video of my whole six-week trip: th-cam.com/video/KBZUD8L7sEQ/w-d-xo.html I've been to south India several other times and been to Kodaikanal and many other places in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
you should not have mixed all those things in thali...you can eat chapati with some curry and vegetable...rice is meant to mix with dal (liquid )....and yogurt is eaten at the end.
Rule of Thumb in Indian Food: Never mix everything at once.. It should always be try eating with each curry/sambar/subgy .. For Chapatis use the thick gravy & dry frys , for Rice use bit liquidy gravy , sambar, subgy ... but always try with one item at a time.. never mix all the ingredients .. that is rude in some places...
True. If i would do that at a restaurant people around me most probably think - he doesn't know how to eat, maybe poor cultural upbringing from parental side.
Gabe the videos I LOVE MOST are the ones on India and Nepal as I fell in love with India when I was there. Unfortunately I couldn´t go to Nepal but will do so next time. Have you ever been to Bodhgaya in Bihar, India and the Barabar caves? I was in both places and WOW!
No I haven't been to either of those places yet. I hadn't even heard of Barabar caves. Checked it out, looks very interesting. Always more to explore in India, that's for sure.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos There's always more to explore as you just stated. I'm gonna be going in and out, six months in and a minimum of two months out, and all the while going around India 🇮🇳. As an American 🇺🇸 we can apply for the 10-year-multiple-entry tourist visa. I just googled it and it says $150🇺🇸 for 10 years (120 months total). What a sweet 🧁🍮 deal wouldn't you say?

Because of drownings. At Kudle beach there was actually a sign showing photos of different people lying on the beach who had drowned there. Pretty sad. I think maybe Indians don't always know how to swim, so they're trying to make the point to be extra careful, but not actually enforcing the no swimming.
When you travel Do you carry your passport .or a photocopy of one? I know some locations offer a lockbox but what do you recommend if they is not one provided ?
I don't walk around with my passport but I do have a copy in my day pack. I leave my passport locked in the room and hope for the best. Never had a room broken into. In India I mostly stay places where I can put my own lock on the door so that no one else can get in.
I am going to india in October (New Dehli, Varanasi), and really worried about what i can actually eat so i don't ruin my trip. You don't seem to be worried at all and are just eating/drinking at most small shops. Are there any tips you can give for this ? perhaps you've gotten sick a few times prior and built your immune system ?
Hi Gabriel, First and foremost tour video are fantastic in terms of giving the real time of day of the many countries you are portraying in your videos. I have a few questions for you as Im considering heading for India for 5 weeks in February. Ive been to India before ,10 years ago, only visiting the Rajhastan as now Im thinking all over the country. My two questions are Hows the weather like in February in genreral mainly south. The other one being more random which country did you prefer between India and (Mexico,Guatemala).....Cheerz
To be perfectly honest, I like you and your videos so much that I give you a like even before i’ve watched anything. Ps. Jaggery or Gurr/ghorr is pure sugarcane sugar that has crystalised. It’s normally soft enough to shave or cut with a knife but not as soft as a hard cheese.
Gabriel Traveler damn when I saw your notification I got excited thinking you uploaded a new video. nevertheless thanks for replying. love your videos. have a good day
The main thing that I can see in mentality of Indian shopkeepers from all over India is they cheat in prices for foreighnour . I am from Jaipur Rajasthan I had seen even guides are cheating foreighnours with help of shopkeepers they had commission in every transaction . As well as goods are sold to 3 to 4 Times the Real cost
Jaggery is unrefined natural sweetener made of sugarcane, we use it extensively in Karnataka cuisine, did you try any "Bisi Bele bath" it's a rice dish kinda like an Italian rissotto
This is my 7th time to India and I've spent 20 months altogether traveling all over the country. I've eaten everything, fruit salads, regular salads, street food, meat, dairy, eggs, etc. and never had any real stomach problems. So it's not a concern for me. I'm not sure how they washed the clothes, I didn't ask. It's possible they washed it in that lake that I showed in another video. Or maybe it was by machine. But they came back dried, folded and in perfect condition. I was actually going to get a quick clip of the clothes the next day to show how great they turned out but I forgot.
Hi Chuck, camera info is always in the info section below the video. I use three different cameras depending on the video. This video was filmed with my Iconntechs camera.
I leave most valuables in the room. I've never had a room broken into. Of course it can happen but you have to leave your valuables somewhere and I prefer not to carry everything with me all the time. Usually I go out with just some local currency, and of course my cameras since I'm filming and also my cell phone. But computer, wallet, passport, etc. I leave in the room.
I'm not sure actually. Maybe a shower so you could wash off after going in the sea? (Except for the fact it says no swimming.) I would never plan to take a bath or shower at one of those places. Toilet if necessary.
toilet -Nature's call, bath -Take a shower! no swimming -a general sign at beaches in india, its an indication of absence of beach life guard, a swimmers life is going to be in his own hands!!
What's your process for finding a room like that in a smaller city these days? From what I've seen, websites like Agoda.com, etc, mostly have more expensive hotels. But I haven't been to any smaller towns recently, so maybe I'm wrong about that (things are always changing). The old way was to just show up and walk around til you found something.
Timothy Roper I may tell you certainly this man making lot of efforts in finding a budget bang for buck room.Even in Indian online booking portals these rooms don't get much place let him keep the good work going .
That's why in India I don't generally book online ahead of time, because the budget places don't tend to advertise online. I haven't booked a room online this whole trip to India, I just show up and check things out. However if I go to a larger city then I will probably book ahead of time to avoid wandering all over the place with my backpack. But then again maybe not, because you can also tell the rickshaw driver to take you to a hotel and tell them a price range and they usually know something off hand that works out pretty good.
How do you usually find this kinda hotel rooms? Any websites or do you go to the town and look for one? If that's so, what is your strategy to find one? Cheers!
In this case I knew about the hotel because I'd stayed there before, so I just showed up and asked if they had rooms available. Mostly in India I end up showing up at a place and looking around, if they're smaller towns or villages, but in larger cities and in most other places I travel I book online ahead of time. Here's a video with more tips: th-cam.com/video/kJ-7jm4pAgw/w-d-xo.html
Gabriel Traveler - Use Apps like Goibibo or MakemyTrip to get best discounts on Hotels in India it is quite cheap compared to other International apps, also you can add this to your video As well so tourists can save there money.
For this video I used my Iconntechs 4k ultra HD Action camera. They're super cheap too, check them out, you should be able to buy them online. Have an awesome time in Tenerife! And if you get the chance check out some of the other nearby islands too because they sounded pretty nice.
Gabriel Traveler just checked them out on amazon dude there very cheap like you say it looks like a go pro so I'm guessing u can film under water with it only trouble I have is I have no laptop to upload videos to can I not upload them from the camara to my smart phone
You need a valid passport and also a visa for India. It's a long, complicated process unfortunately. The good news is that Americans can get a 10-year multiple-entry visa easily. You can then use it for six months at a time whenever you want over the course of ten years. Or you can just get the standard six-month visa. Also there's the 30-day e-visa which you apply for online and then you don't have to mail your passport. For the longer visas you have to mail your passport to an Indian embassy with the appropriate paperwork and documents. See this video for more info: th-cam.com/video/3rj8GezKAQQ/w-d-xo.html
There aren't any bars or anything like that in Gokarna, it's a very sleep little village. There are a couple of restaurants and not much else. Definitely not the place for nightlife, Goa is much better for that.
Are the 500 and 2000 rupee notes that you've got the new ones? I heard India took certain notes out of circulation not so long ago, I assume these are the new ones? I'm heading to India in a couple of weeks really enjoying watching your videos, great tips.

The British term for peanuts is "ground nuts" - that might be what you snack contains.
Okay, that makes sense. Didn't realize that's what the British called them.
No we don't, we call them peanuts! xD
Funny. Maybe Indians just think the English call them ground nuts. I had more of it today and it's definitely peanutty.
Any idea why they had "No swimming" signs posted?
Because of drownings. At Kudle beach there was actually a sign showing photos of different people lying on the beach who had drowned there. Pretty sad. I think maybe Indians don't always know how to swim, so they're trying to make the point to be extra careful, but not actually enforcing the no swimming.
Most Indians don't know swimming (but i do!!).
They are no life guards everywhere in India. Looks like the safest advice to the public has been chosen by the local council
nakul garg Im a gora I understand chutiya etc
mike said nothing to foreigner,he was scolding other guy to act over-smart
JAGGERY is the remaining watery portion after sugar extraction from sugarcane juice
When you travel Do you carry your passport .or a photocopy of one? I know some locations offer a lockbox but what do you recommend if they is not one provided ?
Kartel Farley good question man. I hate it to carry it all the time!
I don't walk around with my passport but I do have a copy in my day pack. I leave my passport locked in the room and hope for the best. Never had a room broken into. In India I mostly stay places where I can put my own lock on the door so that no one else can get in.
I do the same, Gabriel
Gabriel Traveler thank you for the advice
I am going to india in October (New Dehli, Varanasi), and really worried about what i can actually eat so i don't ruin my trip. You don't seem to be worried at all and are just eating/drinking at most small shops. Are there any tips you can give for this ? perhaps you've gotten sick a few times prior and built your immune system ?
Hi Gabriel, First and foremost tour video are fantastic in terms of giving the real time of day of the many countries you are portraying in your videos.
I have a few questions for you as Im considering heading for India for 5 weeks in February. Ive been to India before ,10 years ago, only visiting the Rajhastan
as now Im thinking all over the country. My two questions are Hows the weather like in February in genreral mainly south. The other one being more random
which country did you prefer between India and (Mexico,Guatemala).....Cheerz
To be perfectly honest, I like you and your videos so much that I give you a like even before i’ve watched anything. Ps. Jaggery or Gurr/ghorr is pure sugarcane sugar that has crystalised. It’s normally soft enough to shave or cut with a knife but not as soft as a hard cheese.
Hey Gabe, I hear you can travel in the Congo for the price of a few bagels, just make sure you dont wear Nike's.
hey just curious do you eat the pulpy stuff inside the coconut..?? they are a pretty good meal themselves.. just asking
Sometimes if I'm hungry at the time but not usually.
Gabriel Traveler damn when I saw your notification I got excited thinking you uploaded a new video. nevertheless thanks for replying. love your videos. have a good day
Ha ha, thanks. I haven't started working on the next one yet but I probably will later today.
Gabriel Traveler I saw that sort of reply on someone elses comment. you were saying its gonna be amazing so that's why I was excited. waiting for it
Gabriel you're a *_Travel God_*!
It happen, not only with outsider ,but to people from other states of India too.
It happens everywhere so don’t make a bad image. Go for the positive side budyy
Jaggery is unrefined natural sweetener made of sugarcane, we use it extensively in Karnataka cuisine, did you try any "Bisi Bele bath" it's a rice dish kinda like an Italian rissotto
Good to know, thanks. No, I don't think I've tried that dish.
Aren't you concerned that the dairy products you consumed might not be pasteurized? Also, did they wash your clothes by hand?
This is my 7th time to India and I've spent 20 months altogether traveling all over the country. I've eaten everything, fruit salads, regular salads, street food, meat, dairy, eggs, etc. and never had any real stomach problems. So it's not a concern for me. I'm not sure how they washed the clothes, I didn't ask. It's possible they washed it in that lake that I showed in another video. Or maybe it was by machine. But they came back dried, folded and in perfect condition. I was actually going to get a quick clip of the clothes the next day to show how great they turned out but I forgot.
Gabriel, could you tell me what video camera you mainly use and do you also use a selfie stick?
Thanks,
Chuck
Hi Chuck, camera info is always in the info section below the video. I use three different cameras depending on the video. This video was filmed with my Iconntechs camera.
Do you carry cellphone/camera/computer with you everywhere? Is it safe to leave such things in the average hotel room?
I leave most valuables in the room. I've never had a room broken into. Of course it can happen but you have to leave your valuables somewhere and I prefer not to carry everything with me all the time. Usually I go out with just some local currency, and of course my cameras since I'm filming and also my cell phone. But computer, wallet, passport, etc. I leave in the room.
Gabriel,in south india you could have had idli dosa for breakfast. It would have come under 100 rupees.
What's the difference between the toilet and bath thing?
Timothy Roper - Please use Indian Domestic Apps like MakemyTrip or Goibibo to get great discounts upto 70%. Try it once you will love it.
my tip for breakfast # bread and Amul butter easy available everywhere
How do you usually find this kinda hotel rooms? Any websites or do you go to the town and look for one? If that's so, what is your strategy to find one? Cheers!
In this case I knew about the hotel because I'd stayed there before, so I just showed up and asked if they had rooms available. Mostly in India I end up showing up at a place and looking around, if they're smaller towns or villages, but in larger cities and in most other places I travel I book online ahead of time. Here's a video with more tips: th-cam.com/video/kJ-7jm4pAgw/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much, that video was very helpful
Gabriel Traveler - Use Apps like Goibibo or MakemyTrip to get best discounts on Hotels in India it is quite cheap compared to other International apps, also you can add this to your video As well so tourists can save there money.
If the exchange rate is favorable to the USD, the prices will also have gone up.
hey dude what camara do u use for you're videos I feel like I'm gonna have to upgrade from my smartphone for my trip to tenerife
For this video I used my Iconntechs 4k ultra HD Action camera. They're super cheap too, check them out, you should be able to buy them online. Have an awesome time in Tenerife! And if you get the chance check out some of the other nearby islands too because they sounded pretty nice.

can i just git on a plain and fli to india or do i need to git a vesa befor i go im also from usa thanks
See this video for more info:

Ah!! Nice ...thanks for sharing
Gabriel,
Great videos!
Have you ever had any issues eating the local Indian cuisine? I've read some advice to avoid yogurts, milk, etc.
I've been fine and I eat just about everything, fruit, yogurt, milk, meat, etc. Just depends on the person and to some extent how lucky you get.
You should eat breakfast at the hotels: Idli Vada, Lemon rice, Puliogre, Onion dosa, Khara bath, kaseri bath -all v tasty and v cheap!!
any plan on visiting andaman island and north east india????
I've been to the Andamans before but never been to the northeast, sounds interesting.
Gabriel Traveler check Chris Travel Vlog ( vlog no 21 to 30) for north east, india
What do you tend to do at night time is very many bars ECT were u were
There aren't any bars or anything like that in Gokarna, it's a very sleep little village. There are a couple of restaurants and not much else. Definitely not the place for nightlife, Goa is much better for that.
I love my India beautiful place's

Man I love your vids glad I happened upon them!.when you were in the mountains of California any bear or cougar sightings other than scat.
Thanks. No I didn't see any bears or cougars in California. Never seen a cougar in the wild, but I've seen lots of bears in Alaska and Canada.
lolz, that's very true// if you ask for the price, you will get sucked into the bargaining and will be forced to buy the things//
Jaggery is a english word, its made out of sugarcane juice by making it syrup.
hello Gabriel, You said, The picture in the note is "Mohammad Ali", But He is not "Mohammad Ali, He is MAHATMA GANDHI (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi).
Hi, I actually said Mahatma Gandhi. :)
Did you ever get sick in your travels, from eating or drinking anything ...?
Not really, I've been pretty lucky with that.
Are the 500 and 2000 rupee notes that you've got the new ones? I heard India took certain notes out of circulation not so long ago, I assume these are the new ones?
I'm heading to India in a couple of weeks really enjoying watching your videos, great tips.
Yes, they are the new bills. The situation seems to be mostly resolved now, no issues with ATMs or getting cash so far.
That's good to know! Got very nervous when I heard about the problems it had caused!
Georgi Loves World now, new Bills of 200, 500 and 2000 are introduced

When was the time you were getting 100 rupees for $1 in Annapurna adventure? Did they go down?
That was Nepali rupees, not Indian rupees. They have a different currency in Nepal even though it's also called the rupee.
