Useful talk. One point I'd make relevant to 12:00 minutes is that Iran is recognised by many as having moral character as regards Gaza, certainly it exceeds so-called liberal democratic states. Reality is complex.
@@Js34514 As an Armenian born in Tehran with four centuries of heritage in Iran, with relatives there still, educated in Australia with a history arts major and law degrees, who has been a lifelong student of geopolitics and history (with an emphasis on Asia Mjnor and West Asia), whose mentors are geopolitics authors and eminent historians, who reads voraciously I promise you this - I certainly will continue to study more. Unfortunately, this Man’s lecture is missing a massive point , that is , these people come from Iran study in UK and USA and are completely drowned in the western education and system . This is no solution to that part of the world. I really don’t know what he is trying to say. Save that he will be saying the same thing in 40 years with the Islamic Iran still going very strongly . If they survived the last 40 years with enemies all around they will certainly survive the future from specially people like him who is completely lost in the western world and thinks he can then export this idea to Iran . Just look at the friends of the west in that part of the world . Which one of these counties have achieved that ?
You really think there is no other Iranian here lived in Iran and cannot see your intentions? I am not agree with this guy and do not defend him but you clearly have no expertise in Iran. We Iranians call people like you مزدور
It starts with credibility actually. If you are detached territorially you will never be the expert and you have to accept that that means you cannot be ever the preceding factor, according to the ambition of your elaboration should be tuned appropriately. The next obstacle would be the territory crafted as a heaven would always be considered as a biased when discussing territory crafted as a hell. So you have come come here to bring some crumbles on the table.
A clearly knowledgeable and educated man. The presentation however, partisan; replete with double standard, hypocrisy and projection. 40 mins of waffling could have be broken down with a brief explanation on the usage of opacity in historical and social analysis. Descriptors of social tensions under the Islamic Republic framed as being uniquely Iranian.. much of what is levelled as signs of the fragility of the Iranian State is easily replicated around the globe, Western Social democracy included - suppression of youth dissatisfaction, extraction of wealth, crisis of political legitimacy, increased authoritarianism, disconnect of elites from the general populace... all from someone claiming to speak for an entire country; whom by manner, appearance and cursory inspection seems to have spent no real time in... The assertion of Bid'ah, wielded like some Salafist Da'wah was particularly hilarious. For all his clear delight in monologue, the only lasting takeaway, revealed in the closing minutes, was his clear disdain for the entire region. Gharbzadegi comes to mind. What a shame. * the usage of "We" with a capital w.
I am somewhat surprised that the speaker introduction segment and Q&A segment are not included. Speaker introduction is helpful for viewers who may not be familiar with the guest speaker. Similarly Q&A segment may help answer some of the questions that the viewers may have. Please include these segments
I do not mean to defend any special, as you call it, " state", but of course many of terms you used like autocracy or corruption also completely fits your own state, I mean the aristocratic england. So if you really know yourself as an applied historian, please use your knowledge for changing your own corrupted state and take that advice not to meddle other countries anymore. You are living just in a very limited time of human history and you think you are the one who made this world and you have it in your hand and it is going to remain under your control forever. If you think so you have not learnt anything from your history studies at all, and of course that is because you do not believe in God. You, western (or westernised) politicians, just misuse anything, religeon, history, etc. to gain wealth and power without having any good aim to use them, but vice versa, your short just few hundereds of years history shows that your acts on the planet was much more destructive than being benificial. So please use your knowledge for correcting western countries and you will see the whole world will be in peace.
This man is lost in a cloud of his own verbiage. First I thought he was subjected to crossing several time zones, a "jet lag." But i don't thing so. He is paid to sound like an intellectual while saying nothing of value.
Dear Dr Ansari I carefully study your views on Emperor Thugs in Iran , please note you keep saying Islamic Republic , they are not . Emperor Thugs do not exist any where in the world , the Idea of Velayat Faqeh Motlaqe came about by Akhond Naraqi about 180 years ago in Naraq , go back to Safavi density , Mullah’s soldier is been Thugs until now , the governing of Velayat is based on Emam ZamAn , and Khamenei is his representative and he is the Law by sharia and there constitution , he decides whether I can breath or no.
In this speech, Ali Ansari has uttered lots and lots of empty yaks void of any depth. He is one of many "Westoxicated" people who love to be seen as intellectuals but fail to impress anyone in Iran. He hardly knows much about "Persian" language and has never lived in Iran so he hardly knows much about the Iranian society either. His father is first cousin of "Farah Pahlavi" the wife of the overthrown "Shah" (in 1979 revolution). So he is admittedly a biased character and his account of contemporary history of Iran is questioned. I'm by no means pro the present system in Iran, but Ansari's lecture are far from the truth.
So, I place you in the category of a psychologically-minded historian who thinks, therefore he is!! (reference to a certain French philosopher notwithstanding..) Cultural appreciations of the value you attribute to understanding of another person, requires one to have lived long enough among the natives of that culture to be able to think like a native before that person could make sweeping pronouncements about intentions. I daresay, you have lived perhaps in Iran long enough to be able to understand what you have heard while living in Iran but certainly not long enough to be able to make any credible judgement on the intentions of the Islamic Republic of Iran. If you choose to call yourself a historian, you need to consider your biases for the culture you criticize. You must have paid no attention to your bias as a British towards a country, such as Iran, about which you look with disrespect and ignorance. P.S. I don't think that you are psychologically minded at all because you revealed your ignorance of cultural value of the present generation of Iranians and its impact on your characterization of Iranians. I excuse you because old British Habits of being a boss of the world for 400 years has polluted your perception of the world permanently. Ever considered shining shoes for a living?
Excellent assessment of the current situation on the ground in Iran,
Thank you 👍
Wow, what a powerful lecture! Ansari is a true scholar.
Thank you so much for such in-depth analysis of Iran's political situation. I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks
Great analysis of recent history. Thank you professor Ansari.🙏🌷
Beautiful Talk
Pls post the Q&A discussions.
The most important and ancient country in the world with the most ancient history.
Useful talk. One point I'd make relevant to 12:00 minutes is that Iran is recognised by many as having moral character as regards Gaza, certainly it exceeds so-called liberal democratic states. Reality is complex.
As an Iranian born and lived in Iran, Please study more. I am not sure you really know what you are talking about.

What is London's plan for post-islamic republic? Has Ms. An lambton written another scenario for Iran besides Islamic republic?
Thanks

I was at uni with him. He's just as clueless back then too.
Iran is a great ancient country.
Thank you very much. I enjoy your lecture and I believe you are one of the non-Iranian person that describe the situation in Iran very well.
Iran has kept USA and Israel in a stalement condition for almost half a century which goes to prove what a powerful country it is!
Thanks professor, very well put. West's misunderstanding of Iran is astonishing.

Good analysis, I rather listen 40 minutes of your insights than this .
I have listened for 17 minutes very attentively hoping to learn something, however, you said absolutely nothing.
Totally agreed 👍
Improve your English ...

I listened to this guy for the first 10 minutes of this clip! He mumbled along without saying anything and I had to give up
Yes, he is useless

Oh dear, Ali. You're getting worse with age

How much money has IRI paid to you for this speech?

Absolutely rubbish
This was terrible. WATCHED 24 minutes into the video and he said nothing interesting or intelligent
wishful thinking
cheap propaganda
You are full of you know what Ali Ansari. You're too emotional and angry.
