    Thank you so much for your videos! I have watched a lot of them and saved a play list. I will have a shiba girl in 6 weeks, so been looking at things specifically for that breed. I've looked at many dog breeds for over a year but shiba seemed like it was the best one for me. I find the quirks of shibas very charming and am doing lots of research and note taking to make sure she ends up a happy (mostly) well mannered puppy.

    The way that I have found that works best with my shiba is when she gets way too nippy and out of control, to gentle pin her down with her stomach up. Once she makes the “pffff”, and is no longer tense or fighting me, I will have her sit and give her the release command. It has worked wonders for her, and I really don’t have to do it anymore. She knows that we will do what I ask her to. I’m 100% in agreement with positive reinforcement, but sometimes the stubbornness of the shiba can be a lot more and need a little bit more control. I freaking love my girl and I couldn’t have gotten a better shibe for me.

    • @jenniferking2243
      @jenniferking2243 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what does the pffff mean? is that like a sigh or exhale from your shibe?

    Puppy jimmy is beautiful! One of the ways I get into training is to purposely raise his energy level. Get the ball or treat or chew thing that he cares about the most...and ask them to do something for it. Or get them into a zoomie session (it’s a bit tricky but I figured it out with my pup) and then begin the training. They are most eager when they are having fun. I found the discipline part of the most helpful for me!

    • @SuperShiba
      @SuperShiba  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is so true! We sometimes will pretend something is interesting and Jimmy would get motivated to work toward a mysterious object(could just be a tree branch or a random item). I feel Shiba Inu needs to be in the "right mood" in order to be trained and make it fun is definitely super useful.

      Research the breed carefully. They are extremely willful and smart. They are expert climbers, and you better not let them off leash. They are very cat like, and their coat requires attention as they 'blow their coat' twice a year-the shedding is godawful. Then there is the Shiba Scream-which can alarm you if you're not expecting it! My Shiba is extremely affectionate (he is my Velcro dog) but most Shiba's are aloof. You have to build a strong bond with them; they aren't the type to listen to you if they don't feel you are the pack leader. Lots of training (with training treats). Shiba's don't like other dogs 'getting in their space.' You have to keep a very watchful eye around other dogs, especially if they're smaller. This is a hunting breed; take that into account. They were bred to hunt small game and all the way up to boars. My Shiba loves to chase moving leaves (and would go after birds) if I didn't have him on leash. Walks are important to stimulate their brain. That being said, this is the most captivating breed. They are very complicated but once you have their trust and affection, it is the absolute world.

    I never realized that you have to train a shiba inu to look you in the eye. Interesting... Most dogs do it naturally. Beautiful, but definitely a challenging breed.

    My sweet angel has been having some health issues & when I have 2 give meds she will bite at my hand to “threat” if I try again she flashes her teeth. For example she’s having ear infections I’m struggling to resolve. She won’t allow me to clean her ears, put the medicine in ears, clean her paws. Other than these things she’s the most cuddly angel! How do I keep her from snapping at me?

      Hi Carla, we have been using the same brand since jimmy was young. Her is the link - amzn.to/2EgN3jG
      For 3 months dog he might be somewhere between a medium and a large. Jimmy currently is using a large one. enjoy👍

      @@SuperShiba that’s great and thank you👍 I will check it out. Btw, how about the bed you are using which is good protection for chewing
      or biting :) my little Koa love fluffy material and always try to bite it. So I have to put the fluffy bed away.

    • @SuperShiba
      @SuperShiba  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bed is from Costco but I am sure there are other great options out there in the market as well. With pet’s bed no matter how sturdy it claimed to be we still change it when see obvious wear and tear. Have fun shopping 👍🏻

    What treats do you recommend for a shiba?

    • @SuperShiba
      @SuperShiba  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ramon, for treats selection it really comes down to what your dog likes. Something i consider when selecting a treat is i try to find whole food without artificial filling. I normally will look at ingredients closely before I buy Jimmy's snack and if there are too many ingredients and look artificial I would pass. Jimmy really likes eggs, cheese, raspberries and some other fruits but it varies widely on each individual dogs. I encourage you to test different treats with your dog to find out what he loves the most. Also keep in mind sometimes instead of reward with a treat you can do a short but exciting playtime, that normally works well too. good luck👍
