Sometimes when it comes to Halo speedrunning there are tricks that are just too risky to pull of in a full speedrun. And then other times there are Halo speedrunning tricks that are even too hard for any type of speedrun, whether it is a individual level run or a full run.

The entire reason I learned to speedrun AotCR in Halo CE was because I absolutely hated playing on it. Straight up despised it

@@_vxd_ Mostly due to my unpopular complaint that ground vehicles in CE are such a pain in the ass to operate lmao. On anything higher than normal its a painstaking and an awkward level, which only gets worse in one of the later chapters that runs though that same area, but with the flood.
Im not claiming its objectively bad, I think its awesome, I just hate the way it plays, due to the vehicle control, mostly, lmao
@@rowtechshio875nah your criticism of vehicles in halo ce is absolutely warranted. 100% vehicles are dogshit in ce.
Vehicle sections in all halos are difficult as hell, because of how halo vehicles are balanced and the role they are taking, but ce is just god awful.
I personally learned to love the level even on legendary, but i 100% get you

Back when Halo 4 released I accidentally did the Tank launch on Reclaimer, got thrown out of the map and had to restart. Good times.

It blows my mind that people are able to discover half this stuff in the first place. Some of these tricks seem like stuff you would inevitably find just by messing around, but a lot of them are so weird and specific that I wonder how people find them in the first place.

The silent cartographer thing is similar to a trick used by artillery crews to land multiple shots on target at the same time. Giving a projectile a high arc, followed by a projectile with a lower arc, and then a lower one, if calculated correctly, will ensure all of them impact at once. You can try it in halo not just with grenades, but with wraiths, brute shots, concussion rifles, and grenade launchers; it's pretty useful in PvP if you use the wraith like a long range artillery cannon sitting hull-down behind cover instead of a brawler tank - a strength of the wraith often overlooked.
Imagine waking up some guy up only for him to immediately phase shift into the ceiling 💀💀
You can technically beat Halo 3 without flying or ground vehicles using that double deployable cover skip then right?
I can’t believe when listing soeedrunners you didn’t put Garish top and centre.
And some of the risky tricks are worthwhile.
Some of these guys do 2-3 speed runs every stream.it’s only 1-1.5 hours of their time.,
They can always get a decent time playing safe. But those WR runs only come from both top tier skill, and taking those high variance routes.
You see, the value on their WR’s are that they are skilled enough to do these runs over and over again. Obviously the more you do something in the long run, you should hit those good variances which are what really sets apart those WR’s.
I’ve done a few of these speed runs just for fun replicating individual missions. It will always be little RNg elements that define it.
Did the covenant hit you there? The timing will now be off because you need full health, but going back for the checkpoint will add on an extra 15 seconds.
Little stuff like that.

No he doesn't lol. I respect the lad but he does none of the tricks shown in the video - Cryo Bump and the subsequent Chipps TP, or Halo Bridge Skip, or SC Window Stack, or AotCR BOOL, or Shade Launch on 343GS, or Reveal Skip Skip, or Library First Door TP.
@@wackeeeeee8612 Yep thats why he has ZERO level based records currrently for CE and just the overall one for consistency. And because some of these tricks are very hard and easier ways to hit all the points takes time
@@Shadow0fd3ath24 a year ago he held most of the IL records and is a pretty dedicated full game runner. Most of these tricks are just recently getting optimized. He talks often about only fully learning and integrating the tricks into his runs once they have a decent success rate. He also rarely attempts IL records. Im sure if he put some effort into it he would have lots of the ILs again

The only thing I would add is on Delta Halo on Legendary. While getting the sword flies right and avoiding jackal snipers is very difficult, another aspect that may stop some runners from that route is getting the sword in the first place. The only way to get a sword and utilize that route is to have a white elite spawn at the beginning of the level and you have to aggravate him so he pulls out a sword and back smack him. I can't remember the odds of one spawning, but it is something like 1/32 or 1/64.
In IL runs that's not bad because on pc you can use a seed through a checkpoint manager that makes one spawn every time. However on console or in a full game run it just isn't viable.
Also the gap jump through the waterfall is trickier than the normal one but a bit faster.

I don't know about you, but if I just spent weeks playing that level thousands of times in order to do that, I would be so fucking over it and done with it. The only way to stay sane with stuff like that is to be numb to it, unless you have a _very_ specific kind of psyche.
There'll be one day, when the Halo community has optimized the heck out of the speedruns, where all these tricks will be 'needed' to actually get a record, assuming no new strategies are made or new glitches that are easier are found.

dear Rocket Sloth , It was a decent video and Im happy many good tricks were shown. Harc whit others are indeed well strat finders and so on. However, The clip regarding Halo 5 Breaking miss some information I feel. That Trick we do in fact do in Full game and is very consistent. The there is a very very inconsistent launch however that does save even extra time and is pulled of in a segmented run, but its not the one in this video.

With the pillar of autumn cryp pod glitch near the start of the video it was mentioned that it was used during an individual level run but couldn’t be used in the full run, but I was wondering why considering that’s the first level and resetting at the start wouldn’t be as risky as restarting a couple hours in

Yup it's a tool a community member made to make Segmented Speedruns easier to pull off. He made it say Custom Checkpoint, so that cheating with the tool is hard to do :)
@@Harctwo that's cool, I never knew anything like that existed. I've just been doing the jump and melee thing to get checkpoints where I want them (kinda, BC it doesn't always work)
Coming from the days of Custom Edition, these mods and everything available for Halo nowadays really does impress me
If I was a developer, at the end of the game there would be a ‘glitch’ I put in that is easily doable. When you do the glitch, it has a 50% chance of ending the game instantly and ending a speed run. Or a 50% chance of making you unable to move for 30 seconds.
That way, if you want to get a world record you would always have a 50/50 shot at doing it or not

I have a question about jumping the light bridge on Halo 1. Would that make it so the level doesn't load properly? I heard that the switch needs to be pressed in order for the mission to actually progress
Nope, level will work just fine - when you hit the chapter title, "Reunion Tour", the second half of the mission script starts.

There is a banshee *grab* that is done in the current IL - but it is definitely not the one referenced as, "too risky" - look at the 4-pane comparison and observe the out-of-bounds that is performed; that, is the risky strat.

it's not that these tricks are too risky, it's that they can't do the trick in a consistent manner and the moment someone uses one of these tricks, they risk killing the category to the point no one wants to run it. But there is going to be the inevitable point, that these tricks have to be considered
Speedrunners: that's a risk we're willing to take.

Actually, the shield level where you have to rely on AI to get you out of the falcon and into the Falcons sounds pretty genius, and easy! If this speed runner technique,They could easily set a world record easily!
It is actually very difficult.
Some details were left out in this video about that trick like how you need to get aggro from marines at a specific time and how you need every enemy except the 2 elites to die for the trick to work and how the chance that both elites actually decide to hijack you is really low. doing this all in a way that saves time is also very difficult.
Dyse is actually the only player currently to get a time with the strat faster than the old wr (5:31) without the strat.
But of course if the strat is so easy go and get the world record then. I'm sure you can do it :)
Why not even mention the Halo CE Legendary WR Holder Garish Goblin? He has developed almost all the tricks in the book besides these new ones

Me and my brother found a little skip trick on the arc for a coop speedrun I don’t know how to explain it but I could make a small video doing the trick if I have to.
I remeber trying to speed run a mission an i got hit by a warthog and ended up skipping across the map like a pebble on water
