Speedrunner gameplay looks like how spartans are portrayed in the lore, totally efficient and absolutely lethal.
@NatSoc Kaiser killing every single enemy you encounter on a large battlefield is not the task of a special operative with a specific mission, but really I was talkin about how speedrunners move around the map and how they engage the enemies they do bother to fight.

The skip at 16:40 is actually not to just save a few seconds but it actually causes the buggers and jackals in the next area not to spawn by going over that ledge instead of around.
Exactly. It's a time loss to go up there but you save so much time without the buggers and skirmishers. I wish the video would have gone in-detail about these things instead of just recapping what the runners were doing. You can just watch the actual runs at that point.
Heresiarch Yeah, this video missed so many key points and was straight up wrong sometimes. I can’t believe he didn’t even mention Buck in New Alexandria, who literally ruins runs to the point that you have to reset every time he spawns.

You can manipulate a bit the RNG in New Alexandria when doing just runs of that level, but if you want the perfect RNG in a Full Game Run the 0.0004% chance is real

I think that would be enough for you to say "Fuck it, I'm out!" Which is why not as many enemies spawn (lore wise? JK).

16:40 This is done to avoid the spawn of the drones. Not to save time from the corner.
17:10 The more important thing is how they use the Concussion Rifle to jump up on a walkway in the ceiling. This allows them to skip 3 or 4 Elites and prevents the Hunters from spawning.

Lone wolf can be completed in under a second by sprinting forward as soon as you spawn and shooting the explosive barrel (:
I used to speedrun alongside wolfy when I was in highschool back in ~2014, it's cool to see that he's still running and still one of the best. Backflip, halodude, and wolfy were the guys who got me into running reach.

That hiding trick at the end for the mac gun really could have helped Mitten Squad complete that recent Halo Reach no damage challenge
Shanenon Wolfe The ships all still spawn, there’s absolutely no way to do that part without getting hit. They shoot while you’re charging the gun, so there’s no way to hit it before getting pegged, sadly.
I finally completed reach on legendary yesterday. It took me 2 (ish) hours to do pillar of autumn

I completed legendary reach solo the other day also. My biggest issue was the Long Night if Solace mission when you’re in space. Way too often it would give me random checkpoints when I’ve got enemies all over me and I’m at like 46% health with no escape without dying. It was incredibly infuriating but after about 40 minutes of just loading checkpoints and dying, I finally managed to beat it. It was beautiful.

My favorite thing to do in halo series was to try and keep all my marines alive. Would even waste minutes trying to push them into the next area so they would progress.
I remember making their survival a priority, especially on Halo 3

I've recently started watching WoLfy and the things he does to beat levels blows my mind. Especially the first mission when he takes June's Falcon.

I finally just beat it on Legendary Solo. Took me about two 8 hour sessions that included a lot of trial & error and a lot of frustration, but I did finally manage to complete it

just to clear something up. When the concussion rifle is used to turn the corner in The Pillar of Autumn, that actually skips the loading of the drones in the next section, allowing you to walk through with no resistance, its not because turning is quicker.
How to beat long wolf with the fastest speed run: whoever can throw 2 grenades at the floor the fastest

This is just insane. So impressive to see someone complete the whole game quicker than I can do some of the levels. I've never actually completed Reach solo legendary but it is on my list of things to do. I've done it on co-op but I want that lone wolf achievement!
btw these movements arent that difficult or 'pinpoint' as you say, really anyone can do the glitches/tactics
however doing them quickly and in sequence is not easy

Sword Base: Those ghosts when you're going to the comms array never fail to kill me or shred me so I have to take a longer route -- WITHOUT FAIL! I will follow everything to a T but my RNG on those enemies is horrid

I like the Concussion Rifle jump trick that's after Carter's death, and how it de-spawns the Drones in the cave
Fun fact: forklifts are also useful in speed runs of real life for getting through walls. You don't always get through intact and it's moe of an impact and less ofa noclip, but yknow, gets the job done

Just a note on the first concussion jump, its not to speed up rounding the corner, it keeps you from entering the barrier which spawns the drones and skirmishers, which leaves the following area empty
On pillar of autumn, the concussion rifle jump after carter takes down the scarab despawns the buggers. Making the run to boneyard super safe and super quick
Forklift skip on nightfall is pretty well known but I didn't know a lot of the others skips.
Definitely useful for getting the >03:00 hour speedrun achievement.
At 16:43 the strat is slower than running around the corner. The reason runners jump up that wall is because it despawns the enemies inside of the canyon
Some important points were missed, but overall a well researched video! There was even a couple of tricks in here that I was unaware of.

The spirit carry trick was crazy
Shooting off the wings of the banshee so it can enter the building is galaxy brain level strats
16:40 that trick is actually to skip the trigger that spawns the drones, making the run through the cavern a breeze.

There's an achievement in MCC for beating Reach in sub 3 hours. I can guess some people will take some strategies used by speedrunners to make that run possible in as easily as possible.

All those strats were taught to me by some halo guru guy who was helping with the weekly challenge where it would give 250,000+ credits for achieving a certain score and or skulls activated. Piecing them all together I could only ever do 2 hour and about 35 minutes.

At 8:09 the elite shoots his charged pistol shot out of the air with a concussion rifle. I had no idea you could do that.
The use of the concussion rifle and the stone wall just after Carter died is to despawn all the buggers in the next 2 rooms, no fighting means no wasted time. I used this for the laso run I just finished
I've only beaten Halo CE on legendary years ago, after that I've never bothered to try any other Halo on legendary, enemies are just too damn cheap.
A spartan shouldn't be made of wet paper lol.
Halo CE on legendary was difficult but fair, Reach and the elites with their infinite clip concussion rifle can suck a big one.
I’d honestly say Reach is easier than CE on legendary. There’s a lot more cheap deaths but CE spams you with so many elites that it gets tiring.
Halo 2 was the most difficult for me.

Huh. Never realized how many speedrun techniques I use just normally playing.
Speedruns are how Spartan's are portrayed in the books!
On legendary it takes me damn near an hour to do 1 mission and these guys don't just become Spartans in the books, they become Chief in the books
As its cool to see him do these glitches to speed things up, when the game first came out, my brother and I did them just for the fun of it lol

Unfortunately there are a couple of things you got wrong about what they're doing.
The biggest thing is after 16:38, they're not saving a few seconds, they're avoiding the spawn trigger so the buggers ahead aren't even there. This saves potential minutes which is way bigger than what it looks like.
My personal best run is 1:58:26 for Halo Reach campaign. What these guys found really helped out for sure.
I love things like this were people explain speed runs in edited videos. The actual runs are so boring to watch since speed runners aren't actual entertainers
I used to do the wraith trick so much i thought i was so smart when i figured it out without looking it up
It took me almost an hour and a half to just beat Pillar off Autumn on Legendary.
I saw the forklift glitch in a gdq run and I've tried it and it's really easy to pull off and makes it cake to get the speed run achievement
Btw that one glitch is to despawn the buggers not turn the corner..
A lot of it was easier than it looks most of it just requires practice. Also there’s a lot you missed, in the pillar of autumn you need to grab that concussion rifle and you need as much ammo as you can get when you use it to boost over the rocks it stops all the enemies from the cave from spawning allowing you to run right through
I wonder if the speedrun meta will shift any for the PC release. It seems like precision is already at near maximum from these players, so aside from any weird changes in programming or map changes, I don't know if having M+KB would even help. I keep thinking about Destiny and how the PC players are always ahead on the raid races but I guess this is a different sort of race. Knowing nothing about mechanics vs knowing literally everything about the level, enemies, spawns, etc.
