I'm a huge Blackmore fan and I've been particularly interested in his Made in Japan tone. I've seen several videos on this. But so far, yours is the best video that captures that tone. Thank you.
Thank you! If you look up MGALBU’s channel you youtube you’ll find even better tones form these amps he makes. It has been modded further since and only got better.
Man sometimes I forget how great guitarist you are actually. I'm glad you are still finding time for standard tuning btw. I purchased a gretsch Alligator because of your videos and completely dived in open D tuning. After two months I came back to standard guitar with standard tuning once and discovered that it also sounds great, so I startes mixing both... Now I play Mike Dowling and flamenco in the same day.
That sounds like a great day. I am the same, sometimes I spend weeks playing just the resos in open D then just electric in standards for days. Point is to enjoy ourselves playing. BTW do you know about my new channel dedicated to acoustic blues stuff? th-cam.com/channels/1zl3_bl2wCk3w0rpyz9RnQ.html
@@DogwithtwoBones yup I'm subscribed basically from the day it came out - I was 50. subscriber or something like that☺ I'm now really stuck with electric, I bought a jazz hagstrom doublecut with fat vintage humbuckers and a bigsby, so quarantine isn't that bad
Great demo and playing, Congrats on great amp. Hope I'm not being a bummer but Blackmore mentioned many times in the studio especially MH he used a Vox AC30 non top boost with a treble booster..you're tone is still amazing.and sure sound Blackmore..now made in Japan.definitely sounds like the Majors.
Thank you. I believe the VOX AC30 on MH is a myth is debunked if by nothing else my tone in this video or all of Mgalbu's videos. If you have a source with a direct quote from Blackmore where he explicitly says he recorded on MH on the Vox please send me. Here's two interviews. In the Guitar World one he sets the timeline right, switched to his custom marshall in 1970. (www.guitarworld.com/artists/ritchie-blackmore-talking-tone-gear-deep-purple-years-and-a-rocking-rainbow-revival) In the Vintage Guitar interview he does mention the Vox but does not sound convincing: “I was using a 100-watt Marshall with four 12″ speakers in the cabinet. I probably would’ve also been using the Vox at that time. They would’ve been my primary amps.” www.vintageguitar.com/32424/ritchie-blackmore-3/ Bottom line is we will never know for sure but seems highly unlikely that Blackmore used the Vox on MH even though there is a VOX on the Grand Hotel photos. Maybe for one song, or maybe he wanted to use it but didn't. But I am sure about one thing, this amp I have provides the best Blackmore sounds I ever heard.
Another important aspect that gets really overlooked is the 100hz (i think it at 100....) Hi pass filter that was built into rb's later modded majors. That was really important after the switch to awia 1011....the treble booster naturally gives u the Hi pass. Fyi, I have been thru ALL the attenuators....including the ox. The weber Mass 200 is by far the most natural. And unbelievably the least expensive. And has a line out for hitting an IR of your choice....and u can bypass any power amp emulation in your IR as the line out is (obviously) post power amp.
I heard about the high pass filter, it would explain how Blackmore got the aiwa to sound so bright. Both pedals I tried have a dark sound but listening to rough mixes it seems to me that Blackmores studio tone was way darker than the mastered tracks so much of it has to come from the mixing.
@@DogwithtwoBones the hpf was to remove the blatty low end out of the sound to keep the bottom end tight. Also running marshall majors at that volume into 2 cabs of original greenbacks meant you were at the power handling limit of those speakers and the hpf would keep the speakers from over excurting and always blowing. 2 of his old gtr techs and 2 of the rainbow/dp foh guys are/were friends so I gleaned a lot of Intel from them. Sadly 3 of those 4 guys are no longer with us.
livingabovethe12th it is sad indeed, less and less people stick around from that era and with them part of it dies :( Thanks for the explanation, i dont really have a great understaning of these gears on an electrical or circuit level.

@@DogwithtwoBones A nice challenge is also the tone of "Woman from Tokyo" and the Burn era... Live in Munich in Rainbow era... also Perfect Strangers has a very nice tone... Blackmore has always a very good tone in his hands!
Unforunately all of the blackmore tones are extremely hard to get. But I do have an alright burn and I am planning something with the Rainbow sound in august. I have also plans for who do we think we are, it should be right up the alley of this rig. I am focusing on another project now and will travel in august but have a few videos done but I will it up in september hopefully. @@DogwithtwoBones I just saw some videos on that white strat. Wow that will be my next guitar after I finish paying off the les paul and the chapman baritone
carlos casabianca those sound great! I’d urge you to check out thr malmsteen too, it has bigger neck and deeper scallops. Also the pickup might be better too but it all comes down to preference of course just saying give it a try if you can.
They are custom made by a guy who’s youtube channel is MGALBU. You might have seen his machine head covers but he has a couple of more videos about the amps, check those out.
Wonderful job !!! You are a great guitar player ! Congrats !!! I love how RB sounds on "Rainbow on Stage" mainly on. "Mistreated". It was so powerful and deep. How did he get that sound on "On Stage"? There is so much echo and depth it seems he is playing inside a gothic cathedral. On the second part of Mistreated, when only the guitar sounds, its so fat. Do you know what gear he used on "On Stage" ? Well, congtratulations for your artistry and please keep the excellent work !
Thank you! Well I think the sound is so big and cathedral-y because of the live venue and mixing mastering. I'd attribute the fatness to his amp, the aiwa tape recorder and the 2 4x12 cabinets blasting super loud. In 75 he most likely still played stock fender pickups so you don't need anything special in that department, a cs69 set should be great. But since 74 he used the aiwa tape recorder as a preamp and delay you most likely will need a pedal that can replicate that aiwa drive sound. What kind of amp do you have? If you have a marshall major style circuit probably the BSM Galaxy is the best bet. But if you don't have a major there are a couple of other BSM pedals that can help you get close to the sound. For example the "studio and live 75" which was created to replicate this era of rainbow tones. I recently made a demo of it, I think it is a pretty cool pedal: th-cam.com/video/cXyXoWKX5fE/w-d-xo.html Also GuitarSlinger makes another great option for this aiwa drive pedal: th-cam.com/video/DPxN9kQysnY/w-d-xo.html
Great demo !.....when using the TB on I'm a Leo lead tone at the end on the bridge pickup, how come your tone is darker,.......did you roll back the tone knob and how did you set the TB knob ? Great playing btw
Thanks! The TB doesnt have a tone knob just one overall knob which you can think of as sort of a preamp gain. But the difference you think of is the speakers. The h55 is way darker than the h55pvc, i think I have a video about it on my channel. Also i am using different amp settings for the different songs.
Thanks for the info, good to know. For now I am happy with the scumback but might try the weber at some point. But it would be best to go for the vintage originals but they are very expensive :D
The only reason I bought both speakers is I wasnt sure which one to choose. In retrospect I’d only go for the PVCs, that’s better for the sort of sounds I am looking for live made in japan, live at bbc so live stuff. The H55 is beter for machine head but there is only a small difference you are good with ny of them I belive.

From an artistic standpoint I understand the question but it is much more complex than that. First of all coping Blackmore on a okay level is better than what I can come up with.
