What makes a great piano player is not resorting to chord sequences, particularly for rock music. Here he’s not just playing chords but trills and arpeggios between them. Sheer brilliance and this is just sound check!

Totally agree. Think about it he was for me along with hendrix the greatest guitarist of all time. He was top 5 songwriters of all time. Also top 5 dancers of all time. Top 5 pianists of all time. The great man was a total freak of nature. A total one off so very sadly missed.

Vice Versa: if Joplin had lived a century earlier his sound/style might've been more Eurocentric than Afro-Centric as 'Ragtime' is! I'd say neither is more gifted than the other...just different eras different continents.

This is one of my favourite clips of Prince the musician and band leader with lovely playing on guitar from Mike Weaver and on organ from Boni Boyer at the Tokyo concert of the Lovesexy tour. ( I think). Im so sorry he never got to bring the Piano and Microphone tour to Europe as he intended. I was saving for as many dates as I could make. God rest him.

Thanks to all for clarifying that it was the Nude tour with the wonderful Rosie Gaines .I wasnt sure , thats why I said (I think) Prince used some of the same set elements on both tours and I went to my first Prince concert in 1990 on the Nude tour and he was using that silver Prince namesign then, but possibly the tours before and after as well (?) He was the most ridiculously talented human I had ever seen then , or since.

The 🎹"FOR YOU"🎶 album/🎼8TRACK TAPE was my personal connection with PRINCE music when I was only 11 or 12yrs old. I attended my 1st PRINCE live show at 13 or 14yrs old CONTROVERSY world tour. Than I went to the 1999 world tour PURPLE RAIN long before the storm of fairweather friends that came out to his raising 🌠star🌟 I went to each and every show in my city. Sadly I wish I could have seen him during the DIRTY MIND ALBUM era it was at a venue on 30 minutes from my home. I was about 11 or 12yrs old at the time. I went to see Michael Jackson "OFF THE WALL" and LTD around this particular era. I was truly blessed to have witnessed such great live performances like RICK JAMES "Fire It Up" tour later his "FIRE and DESIRE" tour with TINA MARIE. LUTHER VANDROSS and ANITA BAKER also others. PRINCE ROGERS NELSON became my favorite so I always wanted patiently for information about him touring the New Orleans area. ☔PRINCE🌌 father was a Lousiana native🔮

Listening to some Prince today. My brother was a guitarist. He said to me, "Eric Clapton is the best guitarist, ever!" I said, "No, Prince is." When he tried to convince me that I was wrong, I pointed out that EVEN Eric Clapton said that Prince was the best. :D
In an interview Clapton said that when he visited Prince in Minneapolis 3 things happened to him (Clapton) for the very 1st time: It was the 1st time ever another musician didnt ask him to play his guitar. It was the 1st time ever another guitarrist blew him away playing his own (Clapton's) songs. And it was the 1st time ever he felt inferior to another guitarrist.

You can see and hear where his father being a jazz musician had some influence on him. That foolishness about Lisa and Wendy introducing him to jazz is just that...some foolishness. Prince grew up around jazz. He didn't require anyone else to add that to his musical growth.
His mother was a jazz singer too! Prince was going to be Prince no matter what! This was a man walking in his purpose. He commanded the gifts God gave him. He accepted the challenge, understood the assignment and never wavered from excellence in his craft. The Prince was really the king we all can learn from.
I come to this video every now and then to hear his greatness! So chill - so relaxed and cool. This is just an incredible performance even if it was just a warmup. RIP Prince! We miss you!
