  • For me this Metallica journey so far has been one of the best musical journeys I have ever been on. I know a lot of people aren't fans of the Black album but from what I have heard so far, I have got to admit, I am really enjoying it. My favourite Metallica song is Wherever I May Roam and that is on the Black Album. I guess It may have been different If I was there to experience the change of their music but personally, I don't have a problem with it. I think it's great.
    Here is my reaction to hearing Metallica - Sad But True for the first time. I hope you enjoy it.

    There's a reason why the black album still sells 1,000 copies a week, 30 years after it came out. Fuck the haters, do the whole black album, you won't be sad you did

    • @corrob
      @corrob 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      there is a reason why Doja Cat sells too. most people arent musicians, a highly technical band like Metallica had to dumb their music down to reach the mainstream audience. the black album was a sell out album. selling out is compromising your art for the sole purpose to make more money. yeah it sells great. the majority love it, musicians and true fans of Metallica hate they did this..

    • @wardibald
      @wardibald 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @@corrob You dare compare (insert any commercial rap sh17) to the Black Album? That's cold, dude. If metal bands took evolving their style as "selling out", we wouldn't be here listening to it as metal would have remained a fringe thing that died out decades ago.
      I seriously hope you're not one of those self proclaimed purist fan guys who yell slurs at the band during concerts next to people actually genuinely there to enjoy it.

      @Bmetalful 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @@corrobI used to think the same way but as I get older I realize "selling out" usually coordinates with age. They didn't really "sell out" as much as they matured. They got big enough where they were able to get some top notch production and refine their sound to something more clean and consistent than their earlier thrashers. I think Metallica is special because they've given us a wide variety of music styles to choose from to fit almost any mood.
      Look at Slayer, Kerry King never really grew out of his chug chug chug with the same damn guitar tone in every single song for decades. Is that what you really want every band to be? Just a rehash of previous albums over and over again? Be careful what you wish for, sometimes "selling out" is the best thing that can happen to a band.

    People have a weird hangup with Metallica. Metallica achieved a massive level of success without any radio airplay or a music video from their 1st 3 albums. They were an underground sensation that eventually made a music video and became the biggest band on the planet. When this happened people acted like Metallica was stolen away from them, like they were destined to play small clubs forever. Get over it!

      As if they themselves would have taken the same path.... i think people mistake Metallica as a heavy metal band.... personally while some of it was metal i would say Metallica is more of a really heavy Rock band. There isnt 1 album that i dont NOT like. Their sound has changed butthey have stayed relevant you dont hear many AC/DC songs iron maiden or Pantera songs being played on the airpeople who are small minded and or music snobs are gonna hate.sucks for them is all i can say.

    Mollyboy yo-the ppl ragging on the black album are the old school fans who didn’t want the band to evolve. Plus as Met grew & changed they attracted more fans, so the old school fans were pissed that Metallica wasn’t their little secret, their hidden gem anymore. So these fans turned against the band and discounted everything after the first four albums.
    I didn’t discover Met until 1993, so AJFA and the black album first, and then went back for the rest of their catalog. Like you, I didn’t understand the hate (and never bought into it) because I hadn’t lived through Metallica’s underground years. Fans must face the fact that elitism doesn’t pay the bill for bands-they work fucking hard to succeed and should enjoy their success. I will say that im not as appreciative of their ensuing output, but that’s mostly because my tastes were evolving too-to technical post hardcore & progressive death metal.
    To each their own.

      Ive been a die hard since 85 or 86 when yes they were underground but BUT i evolved with them and therfore love every album theyve cut. And as far as their cover song they decide to do JMO i think they do a better job than the original artist.

    This was from another seminal album for them. One of the best selling albums in history. Not my personal favorite but a solid piece of work. People will moan how they went mainstream or “sold out” but like Metallica said, people have said that even since RTL and regardless of what some think, Metallica always made the music they wanted to make even after the black album. I respect that.

      💯...how long is a band supposed to stay on the underground scene and live in a rat hole on ramen and jelly sandwiches? At some point the money these artists deserve after giving their talent away in clubs and dive bars can only be made on radio play and album sales that lead to sold out arenas and merch sales. Metallica has always said in interviews that they play and write what they enjoy and if you dig it great and if you don't no problem.

    I don't ever hate on this record. The change took us all by surprise, the slower tempo took an adjustment but it shouldn't have. Metallica said it from the beginning. Kill em All and Ride the Lightning doesn't define that band and they said so at the time. Kirk always said don't get used to this sound. We are experimenting with all heavy music. And...
    Fantastic record.
    I just discovered you yesterday mang. Watching the genuine emotions this music puts you through is also emotional for me somehow. I laugh. I cry. And knowing what's coming gives everything a sense of anticipation, wondering how it's going to hit you. I'm along for the ride brother. What a trip

    The Black Album is what catapulted Metallica into the mainstream in 1991 and the 'fans' who were there from tbe start didn't see this as the band evolving and maturing they saw it as Metallica selling out. You have to remember they were a bunch of teenagers when they started but as they matured they grew musically and weren't afraid to go in different directions and the fact they are still going and still producing quality albums says it all.
    I will always have a huge soft spot for this album as in my opinion it was a lightning in a jar moment.

I fucking love this band and this album. And to hell with all the subs that complain about what bands you feature, do more Metallica!!

    I love them all. The “haters” don’t like that it’s not as thrashy as previous albums and the fact that they got radio playing time means they “sold out” to mainstream pop. From top to bottom tho, the best rock band ever.

    @ 11:50 I didn't like this album when it came out in 91 either, but I was your age in 91, 23. As I grew older, I started to warm to The Black Album. I started to love it so much, I actually had a witch doctor reverse the voodoo hex I put on Bob Rock.

      He’s dedicated it to someone when I saw them and on other occasions. He dedicated it to a kid named “Cole” who was having a birthday at the time, when I saw them in ‘17. I forgot how old he was, but he was probably in elementary school.

    As a Metallica fan since 1985, the first time I heard them. The early fans liked them because they were so different. This album was hard rock, not thrash metal which they helped to invent. It's standard hard rock with the Metallica flair. The older fans took it as them selling out. Personally, as a hard rock fan who stumbled upon Metallica, I love it and they will always be my favorite band and the biggest band in the world, no matter what the haters say.

    The Black album is by far the best selling album for Metallica and one of the best selling albums of all time ever. The Black album was the gateway for most people to Metallica as it was very digestible. Enter Sandman was the first Metallica song I heard when it premiered on MTV in 1990 and it blew my mind. Since then I got burned out on the song but still love the album

    For me, the whole "black" album has the best-produced/mixed sound of almost all metal albums. You can hear everything so clearly and you've got both a great high-end and bass mix. Best-sounding rock album of all time to me is the self-titled Boston album (1976) - for many of the same reasons.

    Hey MB, these guys don’t disappoint live. The Black album is what got me into Metallica. My favorite along with And Justice For All.
    Tool is also great to see live as well.

    I love the black album. My big brother bought me the cassette tape for Xmas 91. I spent the next few months with my Walkman playing it to death. I'd loved Metallica since I was introduced to MoP before my age hit double figures. 🤘

    It was in early 2000s and I was just getting into Heavy Metal at the time and seeing this video, I really enjoyed it and seeing Their lead guitarist *Kirk Hammett* 9:22 playing a Jackson Rhoads guitar was so badass. Beautiful model🤘

    You should check that out, sometime.
