Your poor generation has been so starved for good music, real music, that when you hear it, it overwhelms you. What we took for granted back in the 70s it's like manna from heaven to this generation. I'm glad you had a chance to listen to the wonderful pop music that we had from back in the day!

      Not exactly.
There are nine layers of three-part harmony, creating 27 voices, though the high falsetto voices are the most pronounced in the final mix
Barry on falsetto lead three times
      falsetto high harmony three times
      falsetto low harmony three times
Barry on natural voice lead three times
      high harmony three times
      low harmony three times
Barry, Robin and Maurice together on lead three times
      high harmony three times
      low harmony three times

Recording of this song was extensive. You are hearing 27 different tracks. Barry recorded 18 tracks alone. Other nine tracks were the brothers together and solo. Horn section is from the group Chicago

They did this in one take... three brothers who'd been singing together all their lives. Barry, in the middle, wrote over 1000 songs for many artists. They were on top of the musical industry for a long time.

Kathy here - 3 brothers, one mic and no auto tune! These brothers started singing when they were babies. And their inflection, if you listen and hear it, they all end each word at the same time. Yes, it is intentional, as Barry, the middle older brother, was the only one allowed to free riff. And boy could he do it. This music is beyond recognizable, and it will never be duplicated. Only Barry is left with us today. If you want to see a great tribute to the Bee Gees, check out Keith Urban, at the Honors for the Bee Gee's - he does one of their songs and OMG he gave me chills. It is called To Love somebody. Amazing, and Keith Urban can sing, and man talk about a guitar player. You will love that one.

Yeah but they layered each of their vocals something like 9 times each so during the harmony you’re hearing 27 voices layered on top of each other. They don’t sound like this singing it live.

It's all in the family for the Bee Gees. These three brothers have been making beautiful music together since they were kids. They had a younger brother named Andy who had a successful solo career, as well. If you want to hear a song where one of the other brothers sings lead, check out the song "Closer Than Close". Brother Maurice is smooth!

They totally did not decide anything except to sound freaking awesome. It’s all natural. Listen to them sing individually, especially Robin. You’ll have to go on TH-cam and listen to. I started a joke and Massachusetts and then listen to mo aka Maurice sing closer than Close, which is a very seductive song.😮

They said they always could do harmony even when they were 5 and 8 years old, when they began singing together. In their 5- decades-long career, all 3 alternated as lead singer, especially Barry and Robin. Their voices could blend very well but as soloists they actually sounded very different. They were all incredibly versatile as singers, songwriters, musicians, lyricists, and arrangers.

The BEEGEES also had another brother named Andy who was a singer as well. He was much younger than the others. He died in 1988 at 30 from drugs. He had many hits in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Most of his songs were written with his oldest brother Barry-- the guy in the middle of this video and main singer.
Although I am a heavy metal fan, the BeeGees were the first group I liked starting at about age 7. People who do not like the BeeGees need to have their mental health checked as far as I am concerned.

@ronfinn9169 That is some impressive research. I recently purchased their CD of #1 hits 10 in the US and 9 in UK and other foreign countries. I absolutely love the pre SNF material in which Robin actually did some lead vocals. "Massachusetts and Words are my two favorites. Barry Gibb was such a masterful lyricist but I don't really like the songs when he sings in the high falsetto range. He is much stronger and clearly heard in a lower range. I know many fans will disagree with me but just an observation... Not a complaint.

@jonstreng7850 I love some of the falsetto like this one, but not as crazy about certain falsetto songs. Tomorrow, Tomorrow is one of my faves where Barry sings in natural range as well as Alive ( not Staying Alive), & Morning of my Life. Just greatness!❤

Robin, brother without beard, sang lead on most of their 60s songs, Maurice on other side, sings lead sometimes, but provided the awesome bass lines and was their musical director. Wrote all their own songs and hits for others as well. Awesome Gibb brothers!

They had another brother, Andy, who had a solo career because the older boys were already established when he started. Unfortunately, Barry, the oldest, is the only one alive. They have written 1000 songs for themselves and other artists. They donated all the proceeds of this song to child charity UNICEF. It has been reported to be somewhere between 11 and 13 million dollars. Robin and Maurice are Not backup singers. Barry didn't start singing falsetto until 1975 in the song Nights On Broadway.

To difficult to choose the best Bee Gees song as they have a vast catalog of amazing songs throughout 6 decades, three amazing talented brothers, they always considered themselves first and foremost songwriters before being vocalists, although they were amazing singers, they have written for many other artists including Barbara Streisand, Dolly Parton and kenny Rogers,Diana Ross, Frankie Valli, Dionne Warwick, Olivia Newton John and many others, also they have written songs for films including Saturday Night Fever, and Grease both films staring John Travolta, the guy’s have sold over 250 million records worldwide, originally from the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 of the coast of the United Kingdom, I attended a Bee Gees concert in 1997 called One Night Only in Las Vegas they were phenomenal live, great reaction thanks 🙏

We grew up with the Bee Gees in our lounge rooms on black and white TV in the sixties with them being regulars on Australian Bandstand in the mid 1960s. The three brothers got their start in Australia as young boys and wrote and sang backup vocals on several 60s Australian artists’ hits. My favourite is my friend’s (Ronnie Burns) hit from 1967 - “Exit Stage Right” on which they were back up vocalists. The Gibb Brothers also wrote Coalman and sang backup vocals on Ronnie’s hit version of the song, also in 1967. My favourite Bee Gee’s songs that they performed themselves are “Marley Purt Drive”, “Lonely Days”, “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” and their early live rendition of “My Old Mans a Dustman”. In the late 60s the brothers’ group also consisted of Aussies Colin Peterson (drummer) and Vince Melouney (Guitar). Robin had a hit with “I Started a Joke” as a soloist in 1968.

Love Matt's facial reaction just before the 3 minute mark when he listen's to Barry's solo for the first time. And yes, Matt most of the time Barry in the middle took the lead vocal, but they have some great songs where Robin (brother without the beard) has the lead. They have written hundreds of hit songs. Bee Gees are brilliant! And Matt there was a fourth brother Andy, who also had hit singles.

Maurice, the one with the higher forehead and beard is the master of harmonies. They said he could take them 4 parts when needed.

I think the harmonies come naturally from being siblings. The Everly Brothers had stunning harmonies also. 💚 Way too many songs to pick a fave! How Deep Is Your Love, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, To Love Somebody, etc 🎶🎵

The 1st singers/group to offer a song and the full rights of it to a charity for perpetuity (free) - and this was the song given by the way - I think its made over £15 million for the charity so far at last count a few years ago . . . The Bee Gees as a group were hit writers (they considered themselves songwriters before singers actually!) - So they have created a good few songs sung by many others over the decades . . . Grease - Frankie Valli. Heartbreaker - Dionne Warwick, Emotions - Samantha Sang, Woman in Love & Guilty (inc 1 or more albums) - Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You (one of many songs sung by others on the Saturday Night Fever Album) - Islands in The Stream - Kenny & Dolly, Chain Reaction - Diana Ross, Immortality - Celine Dion, etc, etc - along with so many of their songs now having being covered by various newer artists and groups, too . . . Enjoy the rabbit-hole you've both just found with them from the late 50's, early 60's - all the way to the 2000's . . .

They’re brothers so the tones are very similar to start. And their harmonies are absolutely sublime.

Had their poster on my wall long before their disco-era hits. They started in the 60's. I loved, still love, their song Lonely Days, Lonely Nights (Where Would I Be Without My Woman). I do prefer their earlier stuff.

Nobody harmonizes better than family & the Brothers Gibb have some strong genes. Yes, Barry does usually sing lead, however a few songs are led by the twins. The long haired one is Robin & the bearded twin is Maurice. I love 'I started a joke' sung by Robin. There was also a much younger brother named Andy Gibb who 'sounded like his big brothers' & he 'looked' very much like Barry. Andy had some great hits in his solo career., like 'Shadow dancing' & 'I just want to be your everything'. Sadly, he passed at age 30, shortly before he was to join his brothers in the Bee Gee's official group. So sad.

I saw them live in Saratoga. They are three brothers from Australia who started singing when they ten. Sold 220k recordings and also wrote hit songs for other singers.

Elvis is my favorite solo artist. BeeGees are my favorite group - Elvis since the 50s and the Gibbs since a decade later… amazing music. Try Words - beautiful love song, written when they were very young.❤❤❤ Like Elvis they have sounded amazing live through the decades.

Morris was probably the most important Bee Gee, he blended the other twos voices with his and was the reason they were in perfect harmony. Both Barry and Robin shared the lead vocal roll.
