@@FlyingFireFighter Just because they can doesn't mean they should. You wouldn't find anything like that in the whole of Europe or the USA. ILS equipment if it has to be placed at the end of a possible run off area is mounted on a steel construction designed to fracture if hit.
From a pilot - RIP The landing configuration - especially no landing gear - makes no sense. Also, to airport managers/designers - Is building localizer arrays with solid concrete rather than on metal posts standard in Korea, ....or anywhere outside the USA? Airport localizers that I've seen across the USA are essentially supported on metal posts above ground. Certainly I could be wrong. As my focus is on landing, not the on ground approach structures like VORs, localizers, etc. Context: The Korean aircraft hit the localizer on the runway departure end, causing deaths - RIP.
Frangible localiser antenna design is required in Europe and probably the US, as well as other countries but I have no idea if there is a time frame for replacement in various nations.
The aerial view shows that there was a road on the other side of the berm and wall, which is why they were constructed, to protect the road. That road could have been built under the runway instead.
There must be no serious obstacles, buildings, solid walls etc. at the the end of a runway and some distance farther! Without these the plane wouldn't have crashed like this.

This is awful. All them lives lost. Why couldn't the plane stop with the emergency brakes that they have. What happened here. Goodness. The second flight that has crashed in a few days. So sad. I am so sorry sorry
By the looks of it some sort hydraulic failure accrued (extremely rare as the 737 has multiple systems). So flaps and landing gear and thus breaking will be compromised. The earlier ‘crash’ looks more like a missile system exploding near the tail of the aircraft compromising the control surfaces of the tail plane. Perhaps more of a murder rather than a crash…
That plane was making a good landing even without it's wheels. It seems like it's the airport who needs apologise, investigate the runway and redesign it. From the video it seems like that wall was too close to the end of the runway and made a Bad situation into the absolute Worst. Without the wall the plane would have eventually slowed down to a stop. Pilot, passengers and in flight crew Rest In Peace.

The fact that the captain, while in a communicable state, only declared "Mayday" without providing even a brief account of the aircraft's current condition likely stems from an unspoken manual within Jeju Air aimed at avoiding responsibility for accidents. From the perspective of countries that prioritize individual accountability and records, such a communication appears highly unreasonable. As I always say, it is the backward mindset of many Koreans, questioning why they should share their income through taxes for the benefit of society, that leads to support for Yoon and his faction, ultimately confronting us with such grim realities. Look at all the disasters-such as Itaewon, the Sewol Ferry tragedy, and others. These are the tragic outcomes of a society where overarching systems and basic human rights have collapsed, where parachuted officials and survival-of-the-fittest logic dictate operations. Even though Korea's tax rates are low compared to advanced countries, half of the population remains selfishly backward in their mindset. As a result, when a parasitic conservative party takes power, the country is inevitably faced with appalling realities. And yet, some Koreans forget these lessons so quickly. This is why, no matter how much a democratic government elevates Korea's status, the country falls back into the mire every four years. The eight years of Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun, though hard-won, at least brought some progress to Korea. During Moon Jae-in's administration, Korea performed an economic miracle even as the entire world suffered deficits. That was perhaps the time when I saw hope for Korea. It is imperative to impeach that lunatic Yoon as soon as possible, uproot the remnants of those opposing the course of history, and ensure the Democratic Party takes power. Only then can Korea hope to survive amidst these challenging global circumstances.
The localizer antennae were afixed to a thick concrete base. An unbelievable decision/design. Hitting the antennae itself would not have caused destruction, but the airplane would have struck the block-constructed perimeter wall, even then it's possible many would have survived that.
By the sounds of it the concrete wall is actually at the beginning of that particular runway indicating the pilot actually landed the plane at the end of the runway end if he had landed the plane at the right end of the runway he would not of hit any concrete wall.
