Is there a benefit to having three wheels? It looks like the extra weight and reduced turning holds it back quite a bit.

What sort of speeds do the bikes do in these races? The races over here in Australia are mainly for primary and secondary schools and the faster teams will average close to 60kmh for the 10 and 24hr street races. These aren't on banked tracks and there might be as many as 100 other recumbent trikes out there at the same time.

speed record The IHPVA World Human Powered Speed Challenge in Battle Mountain, Nevada record was set at 89.59 MPH(144.17 KPH) But at most track races 60kmh average speed. For speed record www.recumbents.com

@@stilessystem 40 mph average speed over an hour is great! Most human beings cannot put out 200 watts for 5 minutes! Although Olympic Athletes and Bryan Allen can! Bryan Allen was the pilot who flew the Gossamer Albatross across the English Channel. With a 500 watt electric motor added, these streamlined bikes should be able to average at least 60 mph for an hour! That’s fast enough for most commuters to get to work! So why don’t see Streamlined E-bikes everywhere?

@@tonyrusi1978 the reason you don't see e-velos everywhere is law limits e assist to 15mph In the UK and I think Europe is the same which means above 15mph your just carrying extra weight. Don't get me wrong even a 250watt motor would get you to 50mph with decent aero and pedalling

@@jasonpeace1991 I have a rather similar vehicle that I made myself that is registered as a motorcycle. It does not have pedals, just the electric motor. It does 60mph (could be made to go much faster by altering the gearing but I think that would be too much for the brakes that the vehicle has), and I think about 500 miles on a battery charge. I have done over 350 miles on one charge and there was plenty more left. The battery weighs about 55kg and holds 13 kilowatt-hours. I think there is a need for proper industrial development of vehicles along these lines.

@@cedriclynch that's fairly impressive there is something to be said about ultra efficient design and simple design what batteries are you using? I've got a leaf pack for my ev projects and I don't think it's anywhere near 55kg/13kwh

How were the two-wheeled dudes standing up before they started off?

Some of them have "bomb doors" on the bottom so they can stick their feet out. Others likely have a retractable kickstand to hold them up.
