After graduating from Parsons School of Design, I began my career in fashion design and freelanced both in New York City, as well as London. I designed hand knits for Elle Magazine and was the editor of the Hand Knit Page before hand knits fell out of fashion in the early 1990's and the page was discontinued. In 2008 I launched my jewelry design business, designing fine jewelry in 18 & 20 Kt Gold with gemstones that I hand select for each piece. Several awards and numerous write ups & interviews in all kinds of magazines and online zines, I found Sue Spargo in 2015 through her Craftsy class, and my life took another turn. I have been designing in some form since I sold my first felt embroidered xmas tree ornaments to a small shop in Northern California when I was 16 years old, and have never looked back. And while I've had detours along the way: had two children, worked at an advertising agency, got into acting in my early 20's, published some articles for various magazines and wrote for the Huffington Post for a few years, I have always come back to designing. It is my first love and remains so to this day.

Wishing you the same. Lockdowns are not fun.
You can save the thread cut offs from you embroidery and felt those with your silk and wool roving.
Thx Deb ❤️
Oh my, that silk is very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right!?! Very exciting!!! ❤️
Gorgeous
Thank you!
The silk is stunning 😍 the color magnificent..such a beautiful addition to your piece ❤
Thx so much Pam. That was when things really turned a corner for me with that piece. ❤️
Great video! I love your videos; they’re so helpful.
Thanks Cindy. I'm so glad!
So beautiful! I love the addition of the roving and silk hankies. I use a 2" thick piece of foam for hand felting. However, the wool mat is a good option, too. Thank you for sharing! Enjoying your process! You are such an inspiration!! 😍
Thx so much Lynnita! ❤️
Very inspiring and I have learned so much ! Freedom and the option to change my direction and my mind! Thank you.
I’m so glad! ❤️
Oh I just got some wool roving for trying out needle felting... But now I think I might watch this a couple of times to see how to mess with it in another way! My favourite colours are blues, greens, and browns, so I will look for those colours in wool, thread and hand dyed fabric, cos I am inspired by you so so much.
Hi Vanessa, I love, love, love using wool roving. It's so great and fun to work with and you can stitch right on top of it, which is also fun. ❤️
I'm back in my stitching room preparing to make the scissors case having sorted my old fabrics. Can't justify buying new hand dyed fabrics and tried dying at a friend's once - and it's not for me. Still I've plenty of pretty threads etc to liven things up and hopefully free up my way of stitching more!☺ Happy New Year to you and your family.
Happy New Year Jean! Can’t wait to see your scissors case!! What fun.
It’s beautiful
Thank you. It's turning into something and I am curious to see what! ❤️
Are used to large dog brushes and all my little wool scraps and I brush them and I make my own roving it’s really cool and the kids can help it’s fun
My parents knew a Peruvian woman who had large long haired cats who did the same! ❤️
Very cool! I love how this art work has evolved from a beautiful piece of hand dyed linen. Now to get the punch, silk hankies, and roving in colors to match... Waiting on some linen from Fabric on a Whim. Once it arrives I’ll start imagining. Thanks Ariane! Have a wonderful day! I look forward to more tomorrow. Merry Christmas!! 🎄
Wonderful!! Lots of fun. Yes, see you tomorrow ❤️

Wet Belly Fibers has all kinds of silk stuff, roving, hankies, cocoons, and more. Also they have other fibers, merino, tensel, mulberry, rose fiber….check them out, lots of fun stuff. Also, well, you are a new discovery to me, mentioned by Susan Taylor Brown (thank you, Susan!) and I love your work! I have accumulated a few vintage wool blankets, and I’m wondering what you think of using parts of a wool blanket for a substrate? Or, what do you like to use for a substrate? Thank you Ariane, for your videos, your time and your thoughts! Xo
Oh wonderful information, thank you. I will certainly take a look. ❤️
Hi from Snohomish
❤️
Ariane, silk hankies can be spun and you can knit with them. For spinning and knitting you make a hole in the centre and start pulling. If you keep moving around the circle pulling the silk fibres out you will end up with a length of yarn about 100-120 inches. I had never tried using it like roving, but I will now.
Thanks so much Marian. It works really nicely. Just love the silk, so beautiful. ❤️
My little granddaughter has a play sewing machine but it’s actually a roving needle needle’s and it’s battery-operated looks just like a sewing machine it’s awesome I use all kinds of wall and it just rubs them into the fabric
Wonderful!
I am here! Ontario Canada
Hi there! ❤️
I just found this site. Your work is absolutely amazing. You are felting on top of linen but will this be a wall hanging or a rug. Been considering making a rug using the roving and not sure if I want to felt it or needle punch it. Absolutely love your art
It's a wall hanging. The materials I use are too fragile to be used as a rug and walked on. ❤️
It is called needle felting

Hello. Ariane, how long roughly does it take you to completely finish a piece that you have embroidered? They are all really beautiful xxx
Hi Jane, thank you so much. It’s hard to say because I’m working on other things at the same time, but typically about a month or more.

Water back on, chocolate mousse has been made and now I'm back to stitching, thankfully!! ❤️
