Willis and Whittiker ran the 2nd and 3rd fastest times in NCAA indoor history in this race, right behind Athing Mu’s 1:58, and they are Freshmen!!! How exciting! What kicks at the end! Amazing!
How Stanford got BOTh of these phenoms is beyond me. Bright young ladies. They have a great program, sure, but this is amazing! Rose ran a stellar race.
Stanford is becoming an NCAA power in Men's and Women's XC too: they have the NCAA champ in Charles Hicks, who is a Sophomore, and two of the top HS runners: the Young twins, Lex and Leo, coming in later this year.
The mascot is a tree. They are called the Cardinal, a reference to their school colors (Nothing to do with the bird). This was the outcome of a controversy some Native American students drummed up over Stanford's former mascot, which was the 'Indians.' That's a whole other story.
@@JohnHoulgate oh? Approx 90 million native Americans b f Europeans invaded. Approx 80 million natives killed. That’s rt 80. Most by disease true, but millions by murder nonetheless.
@@paulsolon6229 I didn't intend to debate over Native American History. The Cardinal mascot was the outcome of objections to the use of Indians. To the NA students' credit, they had a point. The Stanford marching band and student body had developed a reputation over many years for being irreverent and mocking in their attempts at humor. Better that it happened at Stanford than Florida State, Illinois or Utah where Native American mascots are honored.
@@JohnHoulgate hello, I read that no debate intended. I also read that the American Indian students ‘drummed up’ the issue. That drummer up usage needed an objection
