omg the first civil war hairstyle that I have accomplished successfuly, now the other teens at camp won't make fun of my boring braid omg THANK YOUUUUU❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
thank you SO much for this! I'm in our school musical "The Secret Garden" and our director told us to have a Victorian hairstyle and had no idea what to do... So thank you!!! i love it:)
THANK-YOU this is simple and beautiful. I have just tried it on my four year old who has just past shoulder length hair in preparation for 'Victorian Day' at her school on friday!!! :)
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I'm hopeless with written instructions for hairstyles. I love the way this looks and I'll be using it for a wedding I'm going to be in later this year! I think it'll be perfect and easy enough to do when things are busy.
That was sooo easy! x_x I actually never-ever do my hair because of laziness and lack of material, but this took me less than 10 minutes to do, since you explain and demonstrate so well. I'll match it with my victorianish clothes and look fabulous, thanks to you!
I am so glad I found this video. Your hair resemble mine: similar length and colour. I've been often asked whether or not were they dyed (they've never been). You are a very beautiful and graceful lady. Your videos are professional and informative even to somebody with as little hairstyling practice as me. Thank You for your work.
I use the ''flip'' style all the time. A variation is just to keep on flipping the end of your hair through the space you made untill you have a few inches left. Secure it with a pin or crocodile clipat the top of the bun youve made and you have a victorian style twisted bun that looks quite elegant. you can do the same but single braid your hair first. just remember not to pull the band too tight when you first flip it. i decorate it with flower clips as well.
I've tried this hairstyle before, or at least a poorly explained variation of it, and it turned out disastrous. Then I tried it again using these directions and MY GOODNESS IT'S AMAZING! I would have never thought to tie the three braids together at the end! You are amazing! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for talking! I greatly dislike hairstyle videos where they don't tell you what they're doing and just show you the back of their heads while they're doing it.You have such an engaging personality! :D
I'm glad you liked the response. I'm just getting tired of people telling me, in the same breath, that my hair is so pretty and I should donate it. It seems rude and presumptuous to me. Classic length means you can sit on it, right? If so, then I'm not quite there yet, but it should only be a few more inches. And I like your retort...perhaps I'll use that one as well.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I have a Victorian ball to go to in a couple of days and I had no idea how to acheive any if the hairdos Ive seen online. You have just saved me from putting all of my hair into a bun. Thank you, again!
I'm dressing up as a Victorian lady this Halloween and this was VERY helpful. Thanks! I had found the written instructions, but seeing it in video form is all the easier. Can't wait to try it myself : )
I can't believe I just found this! Lol. I have hair that reaches almost my bottom and it's hard to find hair tutorials for this hair length. I even searched for long hair hairstyles and I found a few. But this particular video just popped up today. Glad it not only popped up, but pleasantly surprised to see the TH-camr is still posting!👏😁 My issue is that I try to do them but always have extra to figure out what to do with! Lol. I'm trying different styles not only for variety, but also so there's not always strain on the same part of my scalp. Anyway, I have liked, commented, and subscribed so now I'm going to binge on these today. Thanks for posting!!😁
Yay! I'm so glad you found me!!! I should have all of the hair stuff in the Hair playlist so that you can avoid all of the babbly vlogs and such. Happy hairstyling, my darling!!!!
I'm so glad I found you! I have waist-length hair, and always have trouble finding videos that work for me. Long hair typically seems to mean armpit-length.... One style that I love, but struggle with is a pin-up, victory inspired look. Do you have an suggestions for that? Thanks!!!
+Jessica Czech If you combine the Gibson tuck and victory rolls - both of which I have tutorials for - you get a pretty decent pin-up look. I'm still not super great at victory rolls, but once you get down how to make them work with long hair - you can play with them and fiddle around a bit and see if you can get them working better for you.
Love your videos. I myself am still learning how to french braid and such. I get tired of doing my eight year olds hair the same all the time. You've given me many ideas! Thank you!!! :-)
Thank you ! I had this plastic instrument for the flip through (basically a comb with a loop) that i haven't used in ages, so yay for finally using it ! My hair being just past my shoulders, i only made two braids and i didn't go all the way for the second flip through, so the hair holds on its own and the elastic is hidden in the first loop. It looks very cute.
Thank you for your videos! I have very long black straight hair and Have a hard time doing My own styles. watching you deal with long tresses makes me feel I can tackle these styles on my own as well. I'm going to try and do them all as you have shown and hopefully I will be as successful as you are with it.
Don't get frustrated when you try them the first time and it doesn't quite work.. It took me a lot of practice before I got any good at it. Up until my mid 20s I only knew how to do a ponytail, a braid, and a bun. That was it! I made a concerted effort to figure out how to get my hair to do what I wanted - and even now it doesn't always cooperate. You'll get it! Just be patient.
Just found your Vid - I love how realistic and practical you are! Sometimes it does take a few tries :) You hair is beautiful and your instructions easy to follow :)
LOVED it. helped alot. i also have long hair, not to mention really thick. and your video made this braid extremely simple. loved that you showed us how to do it while doing it to your own hair. ! love your hair btw toooo
If I were, my butt would be at Casterly Rock, well away from all of Cersei's craziness. ;o) Oh, also? I totally improved upon this style (it was one of my very early ones) not too long ago if you are so inclined: th-cam.com/video/XMvOt7STwPo/w-d-xo.html
your hair is beautiful! mine is as long, and I've been having troubles with it for a long time - it's a real nuisance if you wear it loose, and it's just boring if you wear it in a pony tail all the time... so I was trying to find some..I dunno, tutorial or something on how to do an unusual hairstyle...this one is a really good one, plus, victorian era is my favourite one, so yay! thanks a lot!
That hairstyle looks so nice with your long, gorgeous hair! Mine used to be around that length, but I chopped it off a few years ago to donate and am still trying to get that length back. Anyway, thank you for the tutorial! I look forward to trying it out : )
I think I used regular bobbies in this one -but I would recommend Good Hair Days Magic Grips -they look like cheap plastic nothings, but they hold very well. You can usually find them at Sally's, Wal-Mart, Target, and most drug stores. Oh, and online, of course.
@moremagics Hmm. One of my most confusing comments to date. This is a style, not a cut...and it's definitely not short. Perhaps this comment was left on the wrong video?
I heard 'You can do this if you have shoulder length hair!' and started following it.. Until it got to 'divide the tail into three and make three braids' and I realised I didn't have enough hair. I'll come back next year! xD
My simple trick for flip-throughs is to grab the part where the elastic is, flip that through and the hair automatically follows. It's definitely easier and more intuitive than trying to pull all your hair through, no special utensils needed.
Wow, thank you for posting this! I volunteer at an 1870's living history museum, and I prefer a hairstyle very similar to this, but (of course) I always had trouble hiding my hair bands. I'm looking foward to trying this variation, hopefully it will do better!
I love your videos! My hair is very similar to yours, which helps a lot, you explain very well and the styles are beautiful! Thank you very much from Austria!
YES! We have a dance next Friday and all day before the dance we pretend we are on the titanic and learn how to waltz, have tea and cookies, write letters home, etc. and I now know what I'm doing to my hair to compliment the long dress we have to wear!
Hi, you may try this one with two braids instead of 3, and a higher ponytail. It's what i do because my hair is thin, and i have to manage layers. It's actually an updo i go back to regularly whenever i want a fancy but easy and quick updo. If you have trouble hiding the pins, you can add a nice comb or flower hair clips.
Very beautiful style, thank you for posting this. Recently on The Long hair Community there was a thread about vintage hair styles. I linked your new video on the thread and I'm sure they will love this tutorial. Thank You for all of the videos you share! Hope you join LHC if you haven't yet.
@EdwardianEraGirl It took about 7 years to get from chin length to waist length...then another two to get to hip...it started going really slow after waist length. Oh, and I'm six feet tall, so it might take your less or more...depending on how tall you are.
YES! you are a goldmine for long-haired girls! I was actually thinking of getting my very long hair cut considerably shorter, but now that I have some new updos from a real person (!) I'll reconsider..
my hair is just below the shoulders...makes this a little more difficult to do; but to give the appearence of more hair try seperating braids at end and pinning seperatly underneath so it spreads out the braids more in the back....then adding a decorative comb and dried/fake flowers or feathers....since those were often used as well
Thanks again for the video. I've done this one before, but I believe I made a roll of the braids (so it looked like 6 instead of 3) to halve the length. My hair is quite a bit thinner than yours though. I hope you don't mind, but I have a suggestion for your hair style videos. Could you take a couple of stills of the finished 'do and put them at the beginning so we can see what you're working toward? I realize this might require an accomplice with a digital camera.
If it's just the curl keeping it from being past your shoulders, you may still have enough. What really matters is how long the braids will be. If your hair is curly enough, your braids will end lower than where your unbound hair falls whereas for ppl with straight or slightly wavy hair, a braid ends higher. In other words, give it a try and keep the hair taught when braiding.
That's just it - I grew out from a chin length bob through all of the stages until I am officially where I am now. I like it between BSL and classic where I am currently. Anything shorter is way too much trouble. LOL. Different strokes for different folks. I'm just a long haired girl at heart, that's all.
Actually all of my vids are recorded on my digital camera...nice little feature there. :o) This is actually a great suggestion! Thank you so much. I should have thought of it myself, but that's what I count on ya'll for. You guys always help improve my vids.
wow, amazing hair! i gotta stop beating the crap out of mine!!! :D hahaha... i love this style! beautiful, elegant but really simple! thanks for sharing :)
I know this style as "Gibson braids". But there you don't tuck the english braids under but put them into the hole from the flip from the upside :) Looks slightly different but anyways ^^ Thanks for sharing so many beautiful styles!
I didn't cut it. That's it. I kept the ends trimmed to prevent splits -maybe every 8 months or so, I'd get an inch trimmed off- and I just left it alone.
Well, I really don't encourage my viewers to cut their hair. I'm kind of all about keeping it long and doing fun things with it so that they DON'T cut it. I think we are at cross purposes.
Great! I am almost 39 and my hair is almost as long as yours, people tell me I should cut it but I just can't!! I rather learn how to dress it beautifully !! Thank you a lot ! =D
I had a short bob. It didn't look bad but it required way too much effort to make it look nice, oddly enough. It also didn't leave me with very many options as to how to fix it. I like having options. :o)
Have you tried flipping your pony using a topsy tail? I find it much easier for long hair (I have mine maybe half an inch past my waist) instead of using your fingers and when you flip the braids it's much easier with the topsy tail.
if u have long hair but you want your braids to be shorter, kinda like the traditional hairstyle, you could not braid as far down and then follow the same process.then when u pull ur hair through u could use the excess thats not braided to wrap around th pony tail and just have a little xtra there. Just a thought :]
Ohh, how pretty! I really want to try this but I fear my hair might be little uneven and an inch or two too short... I will still try it out! Great video, I'm subscribing!
I don't know about that "just passed the shoulders" part. My length is around mid-back and when I was done putting this up, the braids were barely visible under the flip. Great style though once mastered.
+Misty Waters (Sakiko123) I actually have a fix for this! Some of my gals reported in that instead of tucking your braids up under the flip - they ended up tucking them up OVER the flip and they liked the results a lot better. Might be something to try - then your braids will show. :o) Also - I estimate a lot at how much length will work for some styles. I've gotten much better at it over the years by trying them out on different lengths myself so I can see. This is a really early vid and I apologize that I wasn't better at that. As I always say - I work with what's on my head and that's a lot so I have to guesstimate sometimes if it will work on different lengths.
I tried this braid out and everyone at my High School LOVED this style! Thank you sooo much for teaching me how to do this!!
I grew my hair to hip length. I waited four years but i am so ready to try every tutorial you made xD
Only four... Tf
omg the first civil war hairstyle that I have accomplished successfuly, now the other teens at camp won't make fun of my boring braid omg THANK YOUUUUU❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wow, all of my hair in one braid isn't even as thick as one of your three braids!
Major hair envy!
I love your videos, thanks so much for sharing.
I am so glad I found this video. Your hair resemble mine: similar length and colour. I've been often asked whether or not were they dyed (they've never been). You are a very beautiful and graceful lady. Your videos are professional and informative even to somebody with as little hairstyling practice as me. Thank You for your work.
oh my god, your hair is absolutely stunning! and its actually healthy; its rare to see women with nice, healthy hair these days! *^_^*

Actually that's a variation a friend of mine told me about. I think both ways are super cute!
Oh my gosh I love your hair! It's so gorgeous
I think you just saved me hours of research of the net and a good deal of money at the hairdresser. Thank you sooooooo much!!!
Thank you so much Torrinpaige!! Thanks for taking your precious to share with us who are learning.
The first Victorian hair tutorial I can actually do! Thank you so much!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I have a Victorian ball to go to in a couple of days and I had no idea how to acheive any if the hairdos Ive seen online. You have just saved me from putting all of my hair into a bun. Thank you, again!

your hair so beautiful.
what a good routine to make hair grow longer?

Thank you so much for the video!!! Spent ages thinking how that was done!

Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!! I was on the fence about a costume I was doing but this is perfect!
Thank you for this I can use this in my production of Oliver! X
YES! you are a goldmine for long-haired girls! I was actually thinking of getting my very long hair cut considerably shorter, but now that I have some new updos from a real person (!) I'll reconsider..
i am dressing up tomorrow as a victorian princess and thanks to you i am going to try this hairstyle out. :-)
Love the idea of a bun at top! Thanks for sharing. (:
For wealthy ladies, hairdos were the job of the lady's maid.

Great hairstyle! I miss my long hair so much, once I've got it long again (another year!) then I will definitely remember this style :) x
Youre so pretty!! And ur hair is friggin gorgeous
thank you so much for the tip of how to style the hair,i love it
That's just it - I grew out from a chin length bob through all of the stages until I am officially where I am now. I like it between BSL and classic where I am currently. you are amazing!! i'm subbing!
you are amazing. Long haired, historically fascinated me just abandoned the eternal boring pony tail forever
I'm so going to do it RIGHT now... Thank you so much for sharing and showing it.
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! i love the victorian era thanks so much for the video. You are awesome XD keep it up!!!!!
Actually all of my vids are recorded on my digital camera...nice little feature there. :o) This is actually a great suggestion! Thank you so much. I should have thought of it myself, but that's what I count on ya'll for. You guys always help improve my vids.
Gosh, i really LOVE your hair! :D
And thank you VERY much for posting this video! ^^
OMG I LUV HER HAIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR i cant belive she can du all that wid 1 hairband
wow, amazing hair! i gotta stop beating the crap out of mine!!! :D hahaha... i love this style! beautiful, elegant but really simple! thanks for sharing :)
I'm going to be in a play of Pride and Prejudice and was looking for hairstyle ideas, thanks so the video!
Absolutely gorgeous !!!
thank you so much for posting this! also, just wanted to second that you are so adorable!
Really like this style, yes I going to try it.
It's the common terminology for the basic braid or plait. The very first one most people learn how to do? That's the English braid.
Beautiful and quick
I know this style as "Gibson braids". But there you don't tuck the english braids under but put them into the hole from the flip from the upside :) Looks slightly different but anyways ^^
Thanks for sharing so many beautiful styles!
i love your personality. makes me happy!
wow, looks great. I'm going to try this today. thank you for the good explanation, it was fun watching you :)
omg our hair is like exactly the same mine is a bit curly but im sooo glad you have long hair! yay wonderful video!
An English braid is your standard three strand braid...probably the first braid you ever learned. :o)
Omg, love you! You make it look so easy! Thank you soooo much!
Great video, I'm subscribing!
that was very helpful. :) I was looking up on how to do victoria hair styles. My hair is rather long and this style would work nicely.
she has a great personality and now i get it
Awesome! You are Awesome!
As I always say - I work with what's on my head and that's a lot so I have to guesstimate sometimes if it will work on different lengths.
i LOVE the color of your bathroom!!
Yay I learnt a new hairstyle! THank you!
