I liked the ending of this episode where Shaun and Joni were both in the dissection lab. It reminds me of when I met my best friend. I was the only autistic kid in a dominantly Neurodivergent high school. So when I got to college, it surprised me when I met the first person who was like me. I had no idea they'd come to mean so much to me, but I'm glad I met them. They're like family to me. Idk if that's the same with Shaun and Joni now, but that's just how I feel. It's like, they both found someone who they can really relate to, y'know?
I was not planning on watching The Good Lawyer at first because I thought it would be too derivative of The Good Doctor, but now I'm very much looking forward to seeing more of Joanie DeGroot if this gets picked up to series.
Funny thing is that her earlier good smaritain argument would've held up in NY state but just not California. In California it is presumed medical professionals should be held liable on or off duty because of their training and expertise but in NY if they are off duty and acting in good faith they cannot be sued because they do not have access to the full set of medical tools, drugs or equipment that they normally have in a medical setting.
It was just PERFECT episode!!!!!😍😍😍 Top Notch Performances by everyone on the episode!!!! (Especially Joni😉😉😉) I felt like I was watching a movie!!!! We need more of the Good lawyer please!!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😍😍😍😍😍
When we get start to get judge base on our differences it’s not so much fun anymore. I felt that it’s my life, like Joni and Shaun and so many others I have a disability too it’s called intellectual and it’s a struggle. Dr. Shaun Murphy has been my mentor all these years. Joni words made me felt wholesome. I see Dr. Park getting emotional I don’t blame him her speech was beautiful and true. If I had to choose I would definitely choose Shaun as my Dr. and Joni as my lawyer or someone exactly like them with ambition to do what there meant for I’ll choose that in a heartbeat💛🧡💙
Kennedy McMann is such a amazing actress beautiful inside/out her achievements and huge success throughout the Nancy Drew series really picked up in this show being very helpful, investigated the wrist injury and proved her client was right by amputation of the hand by looking at those images that saved him from dying. She also gave us a insight what's it like having OCD she's battled with and is a survivor and copes with this being the superb actress she is in this industry. The emotional speech of judgemental views was emotional and finding him not guilty her only client having faith with a disability just like her client giving her a chance as a lawyer with OCD was exceptional. It felt more like a movie than a Spinoff Series and I hope they pick up The Good Lawyer it'll be a huge success! The ratings alone on the first Episode was huge...when I heard Kennedy McMann being in the Good Lawyer made me watch it twice now it's well scripted and brilliant performances by these actors especially Kennedy McMann! We need The Good Lawyer it was incredible. I loved each minute of it! Just watching the ABC previews for two weeks of the Spinoff I couldn't wait to watch it clips looked amazing and short powerful scenes. I love a show that can play with your emotions and there was some scenes she made me emotional this I why I love Kennedy McMann ❤ Please ABC get the Good Lawyer Series a go the ratings will be huge especially with Kennedy McMann and Hoffman!
This case reminds me of the Incredibles, after Mr. incredible save the guy who tried to commit suicide, jumping from a building he sued him, you ruined my death
Already adore Joni. ABC would be dumb not to pick up The Good Lawyer. Kennedy McMann is absolutely brilliant! We need a wholesome TV uninverse right now.
A lot of mistakes that really should not be a part of a good courtroom drama. 1) You can't approach the jury as Joni does in this scene. In fact, she's in a zone called the "well" where the bailiff (that's the security dude standing usually to the right of the Judge's bench) WILL TACKLE YOU if you attempt to enter it, let alone cross it. If you need to pass something to the judge, a clerk or bailiff will act as an intermediary. 2) Closing arguments SHOULD NOT enlist personal experiences or make an appeal based on personal experiences. You're not creating a narrative for empathy. You are getting lost in the sauce and a judge will shut that crap down IMMEDIATELY. 3) Once more with the closing argument, trying to present the plaintiff in a negative light is a no-no. The judge will once again shut that crap down. You're there to make a case FOR YOUR CLIENT not attack the other side. Heck, the judge would likely request the jury completely disregard that entire speech. Congrats, Joni. You screwed your client over.
As someone with autism aaaaaand OCD, I felt that. Thank you for saying what needed to be said for those of us who are DIFFERENT and yet still just like you.
Rlly hoping they make this an actual show just a season and see how it goes I rlly enjoyed this ep like a lot I see a lot of myself in both Shaun and joni
I COULD be wrong but isn't there some sort of law called "The Good Samaritan Act" that prevents people from suing people who did stuff to save their life despite if it ends up causing damage? (Especially if it can be in fact confirmed the alternative was death). Idk if it applies differently to doctors or not since they're specially trained but like if an amateur guy tried to give CPR and broke a rib or something as part of the process they couldn't sue said person. Or if you paralyzed someone for moving their body if they were on the ground in a fire or something.
Hated the episode. the whole premise with Shaun is that he can do the job if you look past what you consider the norm. She on the other hand, really can't do the job. This show is going to be horrible.
A trail like this would last about a year or longer, there would have been many Cort dates, witness, testimonies, depositions, there is no way that it's wrapped up in a single episode. It also doesn't show Leah having the baby, the two becoming new parents and an ongoing trial. How does this trail effect, Shawn work environment? and how it affects his performance and co-workers? How does it effects his realiship with Leah and being a new parent? Non of these questions were answered. This needed to be longer and more realistic, there are so many avenues that they could have gone down instead of wrapping it up in a bow.
These are all business decisions. Obviously Lea is still pregnant, that storyline is ongoing. This episode about the trial is a backdoor pilot for a new show. The only way to give both ABC and the audience an idea of what the show would be focused on if it gets a series order is by showcasing everything they can in the short 44 minutes of time they have. If the show gets picked up, it’s highly likely that the pacing of each case will be more realistic. There’s lots of factors that go into production beyond just the trial itself when this pilot is embedded in an entirely different show. Just think. The entire future of this show rides on just this single episode and if ABC gives it the green light. This condensed timeline setup is the format used by all shows that get backdoor pilots to make sure they get the best possible chance of being ordered for full seasons.
This court case in the show is actually irrelevant. Good Samaritan Act/Law protects everyone. If the person is unconscious, it’s life or limb. So if it means cutting off a hand to save the person you’re legally safe
The issues is sometimes laws can be bent in different ways depend on the place. Good samaritan law protects you as long its proven that it was justified and that's what they tried to play on, that it wasn't necessary to cut a limb to save him but since they could prove that it saved his life then he can be protected by the good samaritan law
Not gonna lie, although we all know what Felicity Huffman did before, but I've never been so happy to see her again on the screen and act along with other outstanding cast! I would be very invested to watch the Good Lawyer!! It'd be a great pass-the-torch experience once the Good Doctor completes the series someday.
Two objections from the very beginning. Keep going. Two more on being different. Now talking about clothing. Irrelevant. Jury isn't on trial. Sack her as a defence attorney. 'Please, don't judge him on any flaws you may perceive in his character: judge him on who he is.' -- that is who he is. 'Please don't punish him for making a difference.' -- was that change wanted done under a controlled clinical trial, or done on a wing and prayer? We are not guinea pigs or lab rats! We must volunteer to partake in your experiment. We are not the plaintiff. Accept what the patient wanted. This court case is that time for justice for not being consulted -- clearly not happy with the outcome. The only emotion to consider here is that one arm bandit. Needs a jury to accept what no one else clearly can. Don't tell me who to thank! That comes from your own 'heart'.
"Members of the jury, my client can't accept less than 1.8 million dollars. Only then can he say thank you to Doctor Murphy for saving his life, and try and forgot who caused the anguish he must now endure for the rest of his life. If it was you, how much would you ask for to remove one of your arms? Lucky, I'm not where you are. I know what my answer would be: can't pay me enough."
Having reviewed this episode: correction; it was his hand. And, the jury made a poor decision. But, that's justice for you. Let's hope that doesn't happen to them.
Hopefully the Good Lawyer gets picked up and becomes a success. The Good universe would be a wholesome thing.
It's supposed to air this fall
It would be great to see neurodiversity represented more.
yea the would be like the Chicago version but sooo much better
OH BITCH WAIT WHAT. I CANE TO SEE IF ANYINE WANTED THIS TO BE A SHOW WHAT DO U MEAN
I hope Disney+/Hulu/ABC gives the green light for the Good Lawyer I am really hoping it’s the Good Doctor meets Ally McBeal

I suppose you meant "dominantly neurotypical", not neurodivergent.
The Way Shawn looks at Lea when Joni tells everyone to judge Shawn on who he is as a person, not the way he behaves...

This episode really moved my heart. I believe experiences like this really happen. God bless and protect anyone who has ocd and autism.

Sounds fair
Yeah well California is retarded, but that's saying something if New York is more sensible than California.

Awesome episode, great writing and acting, I really hope ABC go further with this spinoff

The judge didn't stop Joni closing by all account, so Joni isn't at fault here. But ty for addressing flaws kudos.
Joni is as cute as can be. She was just wonderful. 💙

I agree and I respect the blue heart
that hand on her shoulder at the end was worth more a thousand words.
