Investment grade natural diamonds should hold their value but we're talking about a perfect or near perfect ideal cut GIA certified stone of 2.5+ carats which most consumers can't afford. Smaller stones of excellent quality are still hugely overpriced even with the recent decline in prices and DeBeers and retailers are scrambling trying to figure out how to market them. Lab-created diamonds and the recent surge in gold prices are industry disruptors as tastes and preferences in both the U.S. and China markets are changing. No crystal ball to know for sure which way the scale tips, definitely interesting development.
I was just looking at jewelry yesterday. And the best looking diamonds in the store. Were the Leo diamond collection. All are lab made. But the cut, color, and just the overall beauty. Was better than "real" diamonds. And you just got so much more. For your money. Wedding rings are something that you buy because you love someone. Not because you are wanting to resell them. Wedding rings are not an investment. They are a to show your commitment to someone

Value retention. I would still go for lab, same molecule make up, still the same toughness as natural grown. If I had the money, I would go for GIA always
So funny to to see people say resale value. Like, who buys jewelry to later sell it? Unless you're making an actual business out of it. Oh and keep you life in order so you dont have to resale lol😂
Man!.. I was thinking the same thing, I have pieces I purchased in the 1990's, that I haven't worn in 20+ years and never thought about selling jewelry.
That’s such an ignorant statement by itself, resale value can matter regardless of anyone’s situation! Some pieces of jewelry I buy for my fiancé and I, we get bored of or don’t like after a while and then end up wanting to trade or resell for different stuff to wear. It’s also a nice little bit of extra money if you honestly just decide you really don’t wear or need something you have, I’ve done that before too. You keep that mindset you have and your world will stay small forever.
It’s also an amazing thing to invest in because jewelry like gold and diamonds NEVER lose value it can only go up. You can own a 60k dollar watch for 100 years and so long as you live that long, and the watch is real it’ll be worth the same or more. It’s not renewable. In a sense yet it comes from the earth but with the amount of time it takes it’s not convenient enough to say it’s renewable.

Excellent video TraxNYC !!! Several thoughts 1. Very scary that even diamond experts need a machine to determine natural diamonds vs Lab diamonds. 2. Is this the end for the natural diamond market? 3. What is going to prevent sellers from fooling their customers by selling them a lab diamond and charging them for a natural diamond? Even now more than ever you need a seller you can trust.
"3. What is going to prevent sellers from fooling their customers by selling them a lab diamond and charging them for a natural diamond? Even now more than ever you need a seller you can trust." If you can't see it and most machines can't see it, and it's the very same chemical / physical thing (carbon atoms in a certain pattern): who cares? Or better: I would never buy a natural diamond, as I know it has destroyed earth. So less valuable for me.
Like you said, in 10 or 20 years time lab diamonds are going to be everywhere (worthless), then surely that means the GIA diamonds will be the most valuable?
If you need to sell the lab Diamond you will get the same offer as selling cubic zirconia, ZERO! Cubic zirconia were used in photos used in advertising, since they looked better in printed and picture advertisements.
The laws of supply & demand will still remain true in 10 or 20 years. If purchasing trends highlighting consumers are simply not purchasing naturally mined diamonds continues, natural diamonds will not increase in value as supply will ultimately eclipse demand.
Lab diamonds are worthless. I bought a ring with a lab diamond that at the time I bought didn't know they were just cheap stuff. I was so mad because I showed them my paperwork and they said "yes, you bought this ring here but is lab created we just can give you 2000 dollars because is worthless" so I asked why then I paid 6000 if was unworthy? They said, "that's our business, make people think that lab created diamonds are good like real diamonds but they're not"😒🤬

You all seem to be forgetting he made this video for a specific client and decided to share with us. He has a goal of making a sale of course and also people even in an industry are allowed to change their opinions. The quality of lab created diamonds in the past five years has changed dramatically. Also, the political landscape of the world will have an effect on diamond mining and the desire for natural diamonds. It’s likely that only the most elite people will want to purchase a diamond still because it’ll become a faux pas in regular circles. Buying diamonds as investments in General is a bad idea. If you want the beauty aspect, lab created stones will do the job, or even moissanite.
This video shows that even as a business owner he still wants his customer to knowingly make the best purchasing decison. He couldve up saled for the naturals or even tried to get him to get the si. But he says if he wants the same quailty as the natural diamond for half the cost go with lab. Proves hes not miney hungry and tryna scam a customer
As a jeweller myself this video is very interesting and relevant. I think both natural and lab have a place in the market but the main difference is in 2032 when people look back at this video - the natural diamonds will (hopefully) hold some sort of value, possibly even increase, but I don't think the labs will be worth even 10% of what big Ben paid. Again, doesn't make either right or wrong just reality
Yeah this guy is obviously pushing lab grown as a cheaper alternative instead of telling people he paid very little for that fake stone because its made in a lab its value is non existent hes probably pushing moissanite as well hes aiming for younger clients to spend money on lab grown because they dont know how horrible of an investment it is

Now I came across this video and I really appreciate your honesty. Thank you for this excellent video. Question : why do the lab-grown diamonds show colours under the machine while the excavated ones do not? Thanks for educating us.
All those muppets in the comments section bitching about resale value of lab grown diamonds... if you are thinking of your exit strategy for a useless piece of carbon before even setting foot in a jewellery store, you probably should not buy diamonds at all in the first place.

Amazing how Trax changes his tune on lab diamonds when he sees the profit margin on lab diamonds. How about you tell your client and the rest of us what the profit margin is on a real stone compared to lab grown? Not to mention diamonds in the ground are finite especially clean ones where as lab grown the supply will be endless which will continually drop the price of lab diamonds
@@ace34791 Because diamonds are just carbon at the end of the day, a polished piece of coal whose structure can be modified under the right conditions of pressure and temperature. Conditions that can be reproduced accurately and consistently in a laboratory, which explains the lower cost to produce them. Imagine that you would rather walk 5 miles to get a bucket of water at the nearest well instead of just going to your kitchen sink and get water from the tap.
Being from the world's largest manufacturer of Polished Diamond, Surat, I can definitely say that Lab Grown Diamonds are super profitable for the entire supply chain, starting from Growers to final jewelers. Also, What is the retail price at jewelers, Surat is trading them at significantly lower prices and still people are making money.
Thank you for your honesty. The value of diamonds has always been about the narrative... People buy into The idea that an everyday object has value Because it symbolizes something of value. They buy something Expensive to communicate a message to the outside world or to declare their love to someone, and in this sense, the stone becomes something of great value.
I certainly understand everything you’ve said. When it comes to resale value, if you can tell the difference by using the Yehuda machine, then they’re not the same, and if they’re not the same, I will go with natural stone. No one is going to come up to my wife’s ear with a diamond tester so at that point why not just use a CZ can’t really tell the difference between that and a lab stone.
I predict natural diamond to become super rare and uncommon within 20 years, especially given the price gap. I would love to start finding under priced diamonds now at various places before they sky rocket
Diamond has special chemical properties that will make go viral in all industries. Think of it as aluminium today. Do you think a naturally mined aluminium ring has value?
One problem with your goofy assertion, you can't tell the difference. It's the same thing on an anatomical level and you can "dirty" them artificially, causing them to be undiscernable and as the years go by they will only get better.
The thing is that one company controls 80% of the existing diamonds. So its up to them how much they want to increase the price because they can control the supply
@@EroticOnion23 there are already inclusions in lab grown diamonds, they don’t need to be put there artificially. Lab diamonds come in different clarities and colors, exactly like mined ones.

What this video doesn't take into account is rarity, and supply/demand. The reason Diamonds are worth so much isn't just the aesthetic value, but the scarcity, and how hard it is to mine them. There are tons of gem stones out there that look way better than diamonds, but they are way easier to find and mine, so they aren't worth as much. Yes the lab can make better clarity for cheaper, but they don't have the providence attached to them. That's why some people still will only buy natural.
Natural diamonds are actually not that rare. DeBeers controlled the supply and demand and therefor controls the market and scarcity. They may be hard to mine, but lots of people don’t like the unethical treatment that the miners receive.

Yes, each lab grown diamond starts around a seed. It determines how it grows and it is still as unique as a crystal since it is a crystal of carbon. The lab is just mimicking/speeding up the natural process and removing the dirt/rock/digging process at the end. It's like an artificial womb for a diamond, the real thing still comes out in the end.
Absolutely correct certain lab created diamonds are exactly the same but way cheaper my wifes engagement ring is lab created diamonds set in sterling and looks good

Margins continue to drop for resellers of lab grown diamonds (due to market saturation). We’ll see if in another few months he does an updated video. You have to sell around 15 lab grown diamonds to make the same profit margin as selling 2 to 3 natural diamonds. And the sales process is exactly the same for each. Yeah he is kinda harsh but necessary lol
You should watch his previous videos. Be even went to Africa to convinve people that buying natural diamond is necessary for those people to survive
What's the difference? in 20 years, natural diamonds are more expensive. Lab diamonds are worth less.
They are a to show your commitment to someone
you're right. my man was able to buy me a bigger size diamond for my engagement ring because my mom who used to work at a diamond store told us about lab grown diamonds. it's ethically much better too, really no reason to buy natural diamonds anymore.
We just purchased a lab grown engagement ring. My fiance at first was set on natural, but when she saw what our budget could purchase, she went with the lab, and loves it.
because lab has literally 0 value even to jewelers... this dude would never buy his own product back if it was lab
@@josephghonoja999 they have less value because the market isn’t being played 😂 for years companies have been mining diamonds for mere dollars in Africa while flipping them for thousands just because of the reputation. Realistically it’s the same thing so unless you’re strictly looking for resale value it shouldn’t matter
@@josephghonoja999 you lose more than 50% of the “value” so called from natural diamond when you walk out of the store anyway so why not save 70% of the money and get lab? It’s for sentimental value when purchasing engagement ring, not the cash value. Unless you own a really rare diamond one of a kind then it’s a different story, but normal folks aint buying that anyway.
@@bL3dbL4k the difference is that you can't make fake gold with the same properties as real gold. fake diamonds are the exact same as real ones....
@@bL3dbL4k umm no fake gold is just that fake gold ... Gold can't be replicated that's why it holds more value then diamonds however the lab diamonds has all the properties of a real diamond ... With that being said idk how i feel about the lab diamonds lol even tho in the video i couldn't really tell them apart.... You and God would know it got made in the lab 😂😂😂
@@slickdawg5976 And wouldn't get nowhere near the money you paid for it even if they are natural diamonds.
@@AnimeFever121 lol
glad I found this one. you saying that you're not willing to pay for natural for yourself is so humble! ✊🏽.
You're the best for keeping the jewelry game real no BS!
"No BS" would be not overinflating the price of common rocks in the ground just because some company decided to monopolize and manipulate the market. but hey, that propaganda about "natural stones" bs has been around for decades so it's sad that type of BS is still being promoted even now like in this video.
Excellent video TraxNYC !!! Several thoughts
It’s not just any machine ..
Only those special machines
Regular Diamond testing device can’t tell
3. Laser engraving
2. No
1. He doesn't need it's just easier.
"3. What is going to prevent sellers from fooling their customers by selling them a lab diamond and charging them for a natural diamond? Even now more than ever you need a seller you can trust."
If you can't see it and most machines can't see it, and it's the very same chemical / physical thing (carbon atoms in a certain pattern): who cares?
Diamonds been going down cause of lab diamonds. gold keeps going up
Lab diamonds are worthless. I bought a ring with a lab diamond that at the time I bought didn't know they were just cheap stuff. Anyways, I bought this ring in 6000 dollars but when I went to sell it, I went to 6 places and nobody wanted to buy it, someone recommend me to go where I bought it originally so I di it and guess what...they said only could give me my 2000 dollars.

Lab Diamond: clean no old fossil traces or mineral but clear AF.
I can now afford big super clear shiny Diamonds that are made in a lab and no one died digging it.

Very well said. Wether DeBeers like it or not, lab diamonds are here to stay. No brainer, Pau 5 times for an earth mined diamond is not logic for the same look, and feel. Plus no guilty conscience of bloody diamonds. Enjoy shopping your lab made diamonds. Identical chemical, physical characteristics.❤
As a Wholesale Diamond Dealer, I love to sell natural diamonds because I make more money on them. But I pay more for synthetic oil in my car because it’s better. The truth is Lab Grown Diamonds are Better for cheaper! 💎

Such a honest guy, and that is why he is so successful, i myself would travel to his store just because he is very honest...you my friend are the true gem in this video
Yeah it’s gone from equal to natural to 100 better than natural
This video shows that even as a business owner he still wants his customer to knowingly make the best purchasing decison. He couldve up saled for the naturals or even tried to get him to get the si. But he says if he wants the same quailty as the natural diamond for half the cost go with lab. Proves hes not miney hungry and tryna scam a customer
Finally someone being honest and not lying to keep the middle men happy.
Yeah this guy is obviously pushing lab grown as a cheaper alternative instead of telling people he paid very little for that fake stone because its made in a lab its value is non existent hes probably pushing moissanite as well hes aiming for younger clients to spend money on lab grown because they dont know how horrible of an investment it is
Diamonds are worthless it’s a marketing scheme😂😂. People just love having blood all over their diamonds.
Who is going to pay you anywhere close to what you paid the jewelry store for your natural diamonds?
@Zero 8880 nobody unless it's a unique item - which most diamonds are not
@@josha8465 Exactly, so you could stand to lose even less money by buying a lab grown diamond instead of paying the premium on a natural diamond, which you will mostly likely not be able to make back if you ever needed to pawn or sell it.

I appreciate your honesty. I just order an engagement ring for my girlfriend of 7 years, went lab grown, Color D, Excellent Cut VVS2. Although I wanted to get a real diamond so I could say “yeah it’s a real diamond” mainly because I don’t know if there is a strong difference. I never grew up with jewelry or interested in it.
I ended up going lab grown because with those non negotiables, not even half a ct weight was in my budget. So I went lab grown. Luckily she dosent care real diamond or lab, she just wants the ring.
Now I came across this video and I really appreciate your honesty. A little bit of me inside wants a real diamond for her because that’s what we’ve grown up with “if you don’t get a real diamond you don’t love her” type stuff, but this video made me more confident in the decision. Thank you 🙏
This is a GREAT video. I was smiling the whole time I watched. Thank you for the clarity on this topic. I was wondering about it very much myself and am far from a jewelry expert.

Profit margin for lab grown diamonds are significantly higher I can tell you that with 100% accuracy as a jeweller
@@ace34791 Because diamonds are just carbon at the end of the day, a polished piece of coal whose structure can be modified under the right conditions of pressure and temperature. Conditions that can be reproduced accurately and consistently in a laboratory, which explains the lower cost to produce them. Paying the ludicrous markup on natural diamonds is basically paying for millions of years of pressure and temperature created by the movements of the earth crust.

Can't you eventually just add shlt and impurities to the lab to make them seem 'natural'?...😁

Every single natural diamond is unique is it the same for lab grown diamonds?
Yes, each lab grown diamond starts around a seed. It determines how it grows and it is still as unique as a crystal since it is a crystal of carbon. The lab is just mimicking/speeding up the natural process and removing the dirt/rock/digging process at the end. It's like an artificial womb for a diamond, the real thing still comes out in the end.
